Hi Peter very dangerous indeed !!! I know we can all cope with the knocking for a while but there is more to it. The strut mount is the pivot point for your shock absorber/strut that holds the whole weight of the car keeping it safely connected to the road surface and complete failure would affect massively the dampening therefore affecting the stopping distance when you put your foot on the breaks and handling, heavy steering and geometry of the car... I would also recommend changing it in pairs... i hope it was helpful 👍
no better feeling knowing you fixed it yourself, when your quoted £200+ for both sides when it's only £25 for the parts, i always research a job before attempting it and make sure i have the correct tools needed - video guides like this are so valuable too, plus there is the benefit of getting to learn a lot more about areas of your car which can be a big help for future jobs - i had a focus st170 - i got to know every bolt within 6 months - typical Fords
nice vid for those not afraid to get mucky, i when using the clamps is to have the strut secured in a vice - if under pressure the strut fell over the clamps can break (remember the clamps are holding some serious force already) and if it did go - you will be a lucky person if your still alive, even with the clamps i also loop a piece of chain each side with a thick bolt - as i tighten the clamps i then tweak up the chain - adding bolts as i clamp more - then if the clamps give way the chain will stop you losing your head
Old video but I finally found what I was looking for. Do you think in coupe I would have to dismantle half a car to replace those as you did? Thx champ.
I have the same car. I replaced one lower ball joint, both track rod ends, both stability bars my car just past the MOT first time with no advisories but I had prior to the MOT and after the MOT a knocking noise from the front, sounds like suspension noise. My car pased the MOT first time ! Does a worn megane strut mount make a slight tapping noise over bumps ? I found my top strut bolts slightly lose so tightened them but it made no difference to the noise. I found play in my stability bars and track rod ends and replaced them all. The new stability bars cut out body roll dramitacally but I still have the tapping from front drivers side. Could this be the top strut mounts ???
hello, I have recently overhauled the shock absorbers and changed the headphones, but lately it is making me a creak on the front left side, when the car runs on disconnected asphalt or small holes. The noise seems to be much louder when the car is cold, while when it heats up it is less audible. I took it to the mechanic and he tells me that the shock absorbers are ok. what could be the problem ?? it's an annoying noise it seems like something in the wheel has loosened
Tubefix thx Chris, yes it takes twice as long at least to do the job and record at the same time, I do enjoy tho .... 😃 I’m a bit more organised now I’ll be uploading new videos at 17:00 every Thursday starting today check it out and let me know what you think about this one today. Cheers👍
Great video 😉 My driver side one is shot! Got a quote £216 to do both, that a good price or shall I tackle it myself? , worked on cars before but never used spring clamps 🙃
Hi, I am from India, Mumbai..out here it's known as the Renault fluence..wud be looking to fit the infotainment system that you have on your megane...is it the touchscreen one?
I have repaired my cars for well over 50yrs, those with MacPherson struts include BMW's,Audi's,Peugeot's,Citroen's,Hillmans,VW''s, none ever failed until the Clio. Something I have noticed about French parts.
They can be difficult sometimes depending on how rusty things are and tool used to compress the spring but this Renault setup is one of the easiest out there ... Great job tackling it tho 👍👍👍
Does the GT Line range have different shocks and springs to standard? I have a 2013 Megane 1.6Dci GT Line. I need new front shocks and springs but can only find ones that will fit any megane. No specific versions for GT Line. Thanks.
How dangerous is it if you leave it and put up with the knocking?

@@CarsExposed Thank you. Never realized how important strut mount is.
👍
It only shows up on bumps and large amounts of lock. OK if you keep an eye on it but not for too long and would not recommend motorways
instablaster...

A great guide mate. This model (MK3) comes with which OE shocks ? Am planning to replace them, I would love getting the best replacements.
What mileage mounts failed?

Good job good explanation. Thank you my friend 🙏
How did you get the nut on the shock thread? Looked like it needed compressing some more. Thanks.

Great video Igor. It must take double the time to make the videos as well as do the Job? Chris
Tubefix thx Chris, yes it takes twice as long at least to do the job and record at the same time, I do enjoy tho .... 😃 I’m a bit more organised now I’ll be uploading new videos at 17:00 every Thursday starting today check it out and let me know what you think about this one today. Cheers👍

A bad mount probably a little bit .
Hi,
Can I bring mine to you to clamp and put new mounts on ?...I live in Bournemouth 🤞
Do you mean bring the struts?
Yes..or you could quote for the complete job..?
Great video 😉 My driver side one is shot! Got a quote £216 to do both, that a good price or shall I tackle it myself? , worked on cars before but never used spring clamps 🙃
£216 is very good price I wouldn’t bother doing it 👍
Top man 👍
@Peter Hicks it’s good to be able to work on your own vehicle 👍
Hi, I am from India, Mumbai..out here it's known as the Renault fluence..wud be looking to fit the infotainment system that you have on your megane...is it the touchscreen one?
By safe, just taking spring give to the garage, very nice advice 100%
The spring can kill you
Nice one man. So this is 1.6dci??
yes , cheers 👍
I forgot to add this has failed on my Clio mk2, this is a Renault problem perhaps as the Clio one is much smaller.
I have never known this bearing fail on almost all other makes I have owned including cirtroens.
They go quite often actually I’ve got to do my other Megane now ☹️
I have repaired my cars for well over 50yrs, those with MacPherson struts include BMW's,Audi's,Peugeot's,Citroen's,Hillmans,VW''s, none ever failed until the Clio. Something I have noticed about French parts.
Did one of these today. What a joke. Far more difficult than it needed to be

DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF THE SPRING
Great, are you mechanics? Why don't use gloves?🙂
I do a few jobs here and there ... I don’t always wear gloves but I should really 👍👍👍

@@Steem07 No. I have sold the car now. Lol.
To bad, my gt line needs top mounts replacement. I want to replace shocks and springs to but cant find any clear info about gt line parts
@@Steem07 It's a weird one.
