Hard to understand why they are dredging so deep. Removing silt from a reservoir above a hydro plant? Gold dredging? Removing heavy metals or PCB contamination.
I hadn't thought about the silt from a reservoir, but this looks like Alaskan Pan handle area. My other thought is deep water gold dredging. Because it seems to me they aren't moving enough material to make it worth it's while if that's a reservoir being silt dredged. But I could possibly see going for deep water dredging because all the gold in those surrounding mountains is going to end up in the bottom of that fjord, if that's what it is. you're still going to have to move a lot of over burden. but if you can get down to the right level that would be some very virgin territory.? Or am I way off?
There is also a video which shows how they get this beast up there and with technical information. The working depth is 150 - 200 m. ruclips.net/video/S182uqsBIpo/видео.html

Are they panning for gold?
Rumor has it that they are still there filling that barge.
Wow! Now that is one good crane operator. So smooth and quick!
Not
Looks like by the time the clamshell made it to the surface there water would have washed the majority of the mud out of it!

3 years later the first barge is full.
Amazing, how the rope managed its twisting and rotating of bucket up to more than 180 deg?
Rivetting!

That is extremely deep dredging! I presume it is removing silt from a hydro dam or reservoir.
