The power in every word and beat is astounding. Rarely are there singers with this timbre and conviction. Bea Arthur was a unique lady in every way. Still missed.
I was fortunate to see Bea's one woman show twice here in Arizona. She was definately one-of-a-kind. I enjoyed every second of her show. And her body of work...nothing compares. I love you, Bea. There are earthlings here that are missing you so.
When such a great theatre- screen actress has that kind of material and vocal skills, plus musicality and expression, it is win win WIN situation. Respect, Madame.
I cannot get enough of this absolutely beautiful performance. Bea had such a way with infusing songs with raw and real emotion. Her phrasing and enunciation are flawless. Thank you , Bea, for being uniquely you, and sharing your beautiful self with the world.
A new found love and respect for Bea Arthur. An absolutely immaculate performance. The acting and voice are absolutely superb. Her inflection is perfect. I fear we won’t see greatness like this again
This song always makes me 🥲 It’s Bea’s rendition plus the determination for a happiness built on a peaceful heart that the lyrics convey. Id rather have 50% of this kind of love than 100% of any other kind.
Both women did this song justice, I suppose the biggest difference to me is Dorothy Loudon's performance was more of a declaration to all, whereas Bea Arthur's is more of a quiet resignation.
I agree. I think she got prettier as she aged. Compare her here to when she played Maude. She looks lovely here. Great actor and great singer. What a talented lady she was.
Wow. Makes me long for the day when they used to let a comsumate performer perform a song in it's entirety and KILL. I am honored to have met Mea and hung out in her dressing room after a performance of her one woman show.
Thank you so much for posting this. I never knew that Bea Arthur had performed this song. She was wonderful. Dorothy Loudon was an extraordinary singer and performer who I don't believe will ever be equaled, but Bea Arthur does a great job of bringing out the lyrics, and I've always loved her singing since "Mame."
I’m pretty sure the composer of the song, Billy Goldengerg, is at the piano here. He wrote the song with Allen and Marilyn Bergman for the show Ballroom.
Not from 1982 Kennedy Center Honors. From a PBS special entitled "Broadway Plays Washington." Highlights from Broaday musicals that was hosted by Debbie Reynolds & Chita Rivers. Other performers included Alexis Smith, Robert Morse, Larry Kert, Debbie Shapiro, Melba More and quit a few others.
The first thing I ever heard Bea sing was "What'll I Do." This the second time I've really heard her sing, and wow, but I knew this was in there. Wait, Fiddler on the Roof, too, right? Forgive me, I'm only 34. 😅💗😏
Check her out on the original Broadway cast album of "Mame," in which she played Vera Charles, Mame's alcoholic thespian friend. She has one wonderful solo - "The Man in the Moon" - and a terrific duet with Angela Lansbury as Mame - "Bosom Buddies."
This wasn't from the Kennedy Center Honors. This was a special of some sort of Broadway songs. Also, this wouldn't have been the Honors show as it's clearly not in the main Opera House of the Kennedy Center.
Dianaemanuel the version she does when she's older is completely different. It truly shows the vulnerability this song requires. It feel like a completely different song.
The power in every word and beat is astounding. Rarely are there singers with this timbre and conviction. Bea Arthur was a unique lady in every way. Still missed.
A damn masterclass in acting a song. God, she was a spectacular actor. What a gift.
So many performers sing songs and have no idea what they are singing about. Bea knows exactly what this song is about and performs it incredibly.
Well stated.
Bea was a woman who loved nothing more in the world than to sing...and it's reflected in every note.
I have watched this performance so many times I cannot count. 1,000 of these views might just be mine.
Valid. Isn't she just wonderful?
@@jeremiahgabriel5709 LEGEND! This song is also a mood haha.
she was very talented
Ok queen 🌈
From the Broadway show “Ballroom”
Bea was a VERY VERY talented woman. She should have received more Broadway roles because she had the voice no doubt about it.
Besutiful! Wonderful rendition.
No one has ever come close in my estimation to Dorothy Loudon's original interpretation of this song. Till I heard this.
Love her Voice! She can really sing with Style. ✨
The delivery of this song is just perfect.

@@January. 🤣
Bea was brilliant. Such a heartfelt storytelling she ALWAYS gave to her renditions.
I cannot get enough of this absolutely beautiful performance. Bea had such a way with infusing songs with raw and real emotion. Her phrasing and enunciation are flawless. Thank you , Bea, for being uniquely you, and sharing your beautiful self with the world.
Always love watching Bea sing this from Broadway plays Washington. She’ll always be my hero.
Her acting was never acting. It came from a true place deep within her. That's the difference.
God, the pure emotion and vocal power give me chills every time. What I would give to sound like THAT!
Right??? It’s truly living inside the lyric!
A new found love and respect for Bea Arthur. An absolutely immaculate performance. The acting and voice are absolutely superb. Her inflection is perfect. I fear we won’t see greatness like this again
Perfection! And to top it of she looks so beautiful

❤
That 3:40 - 3:45 moment

Not only this is a fantastic song but she sings it beautifully.
I agree. I think she got prettier as she aged. Compare her here to when she played Maude. She looks lovely here. Great actor and great singer. What a talented lady she was.
She looked so beautiful here..and her voice was a powerhouse! How she reminds me of my beautiful mom.. ♥️
Gosh this is such a stunning performance! ❤️❤️
This is so touching
She was definitely a star
A really breathtaking performance! Great combination of words and notes, speaking and singing! Miss her so much, my golden girl.
this was from a 1982 special on PBS Broadway plays Washington I recorded the whole thing on my cassette tape still have it to this day
I’ve always wondered what this was from!!! Thanks!!!
She’s 60 here! 60! Her voice outshines todays youngsters by far.
Bea was FABULOUS! I miss her so much! she was such a great singer and actress
Love her miss her!
Wow. Makes me long for the day when they used to let a comsumate performer perform a song in it's entirety and KILL. I am honored to have met Mea and hung out in her dressing room after a performance of her one woman show.

I love the haircut
Bea invented acting with this performance.
I think this is my favorite version of this song.
❤️I enjoyed this very much. Thank you for sharing!!! ❤️

Absolutely beautiful. Thank you, Bea.

LOVE THIS
EXCELLENT !!!!!!!!!
I’m pretty sure the composer of the song, Billy Goldengerg, is at the piano here. He wrote the song with Allen and Marilyn Bergman for the show Ballroom.
always great. wonderful BEA
Bea at her loveliest.
Very good.
God bless this woman
give me an actor who can sing a little vs a singer who can act a little, anyday.
Anyday of the week!
Agreed! Like this: ruclips.net/video/TW8IaLXvOgk/видео.html
Unfortunately disagree but I hear you!
Bea..
Does anyone know where I can get this outfit?
Wow. Wow, wow, wow.
Gorgeousness
This song KILLS ME. Up until now I only knew Dorothy Loudon's version.
I wish they had casted Bea for this
The first thing I ever heard Bea sing was "What'll I Do." This the second time I've really heard her sing, and wow, but I knew this was in there. Wait, Fiddler on the Roof, too, right? Forgive me, I'm only 34. 😅💗😏

this is intense.
Bea admired Dorothy Loudon a great deal so this is great.
This wasn't from the Kennedy Center Honors. This was a special of some sort of Broadway songs. Also, this wouldn't have been the Honors show as it's clearly not in the main Opera House of the Kennedy Center.
Me, too.
crazy woman but damn good actress
RESPLENDENT.
Five people wanted more than 50%.
She was a Comedienne who could sing.
This song was written for her Alto octave.
This performance makes me long for a gender reversed version of My Fair Lady with Bea Arthur as professor Higgins.
Your profile name makes me hungry
Who was being honored?
Whats the title if the song?
Fifty Percent
♫If anyone had told me 1 year ago that Donald Trump would be the president, I wouldn't have believed it!♫
Like that she did the intro.... but she is a person that lacks vulnerability and this song needs that....
Love this! but really look at Dorothy Loudons version:)
Atrist. Genuine one. Diva.
I think Bea looked a little better with a little more weight on her...she was a little too thin in the first few seasons of Golden Girls
`````agree ending weak... was all a bit workman like I feel
She sings this beautifully but I feel the ending isn't what it could have been.
She does an amazing job, but yes, the ending feels somewhat like a letdown.
Dianaemanuel the version she does when she's older is completely different. It truly shows the vulnerability this song requires. It feel like a completely different song.
