Yeah!! Overkill is like the AC-DC of thrash! you know what you're going to get but it's always great!!
I just finished breakfast after my workout while watching this. I was ready to throw my breakfast dishes across the room. Thanks for reacting to this. Super high energy and definitely wakes you up and makes you want to just go.
😂 Glad you got your morning started right! Thx Bobby!
Overkill is one band from the classic thrash era that stuck to their guns and never quit making albums, not the best known or best selling metal band but they're consistent, you know what each new album will sound like
100%. Should have been one of the big 4.
@@kinzei1971 Big 6 would have to be Testament and Overkill
Here in Germany they are quite famous 🤘
I am a fan since 1989 and still I am IRONBOUND💪
@@m.ericwatson968 Exodus and Testament, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Overkill.
@@kinzei1971 no to Anthrax?
Been listening Overkill from ca 1985, never disappoints. With this song you get a very good idea what this band is all about, 100% Overkill. In my books nro 1 thrash band, they´ve always been true to their sound. Wrecking Crew !
Overkill was a band from the early thrash era that was east coast along with Anthrax. my favorite Overkill was Hello From The Gutter. Awesome reaction guys. High energy. Good for workouts eh? GO BOSTON BRUINS!!! 🤟🍻
Overkill. Nuclear Assault, Exodus are all great overlooked bands from the thrash era, overshadowed by the Big 4
Actually, Overkill and Exodus are better known than the likes of Nuclear Assault, Vio-Lence, old Sacred Reich and Gammacide.
I swear, so much talent and skill shadowed by other fame. It sucks
@@anormalpenguin1605 That's what it's like to live in a society that prioritizes popularity.
Overkill we're formed in 1980 and they are from New Jersey. They influenced a ton of Metal bands and they never changed their sound. The only remaining members are bassist Carlo "D.D." Verni & Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth. They are imo, one of the most important Trash Metal band out there 🤘
Overkill's 1991 Horrorscope album is one of my all time favorite thrash records from any band.
I’ve been listening to Overkill since 87. I absolutely love this band. This song ALWAYS gets my hair standing up.
Under the influence Overkill
I'm into Overkill, but don't know much of their newer material. This kicked ass as usual.
They dropped an album in April, Scorched. I swear, they are getting heavier
Just check out their latest album "Scorched"...
Came out the same day as Metallica's latest one, and blew it away. (But sadly, no one knows)
"Scorched" is awesome! They really rage on it.
Thank you soooooo much for reacting to Overkill!!! No one else is!! It's seen me subscribe to you guys!!! They're amazing!!! They've been so consistently heavy but musical!!! Try reacting to Thanx For Nuthin'!! You won't be disappointed!!!
Bobby Blitz !!!
I still have feel the fire & taking over on lp . No record player right now 😂 but I'll never get rid of my first pressings .
Fun fact, when Overkill worked on their 1989 "Years of Decay" album (a masterpiece, just pick any song) every current band covered a punk song. Overkill wrote their own, title "I hate". They continued to do this on newer albums, songs like the "Old School" and "Garden State".
Hell yeah you've been thrashed. It is 04:00 AM and I nearly broke my bed :))...about the vocals: that is typical thrash metal vocal style.
Elimination next by Overkill!
Would be a great pick. Especially for reactors who are interested in the lyrics.
This one's so prophetic about what happens decades later when COVID strikes in...
One of the OG Thrash/Speed Metal bands that stayed true to who they are. Been a fan since the early 80's...
My Favorite Thrash Metal band finally getting some air time Thanks B&B 👍🏽💥🤘🏾
Overkill should’ve been in the big 4 Or Testament. Overkill and testament or thrash bands to the core and I love them and you guys will too. If you like Megadeth you will love them!!!
Awesome choice by one of your followers. Not a whole lot of overkill gets the props they deserve.
I agree. This might be a hot take but I seriously think Overkill should replace Anthrax in the big 4.
@@gabefreebern6706its called the big 4 based on popularity, not really skill. i love overkill and testament (and anthrax too), but anthrax was simply more influential during the time
they are truly still a metal thrash band!!!!!!!!!
These guys are great, i personally love the older tunes. Ironically, Avenged Sevenfold seems to have ripped off Overkill's mascot named Chaly.
Taking over is my favorite album from overkill 🤘🏻
Overkill knows and gave them their blessing
@@jima6545 That's bullsh** . Bobby Blitz himself said that they weren't aware and when they discovered that they just scoffed at those posers.
@hieioni3354 I heard otherwise. It's Bobby, he could have reconsidered. Shall I look for the clip?
@@jima6545 Yeah, show me the evidence. Write down where he said that, youtube doesn't allow you to post link.
Yes! One of the greats of Thrash Metal! A lot of classics to check from them.
Necroshine, Thanx
for nothing, It lives, and Thunderhead are some of their must hear songs. Keep it up! 🤘🏽
My favorite thrash band. I've wrecked my neck to them since the 80s. The bass playing of D.D. Verni is soul crushing. "Blitz" Ellsworth's vocals are as fierce as anyone's in the thrash genre. As for green, OVERKILL's lettering has always been green. If you want more OVERKILL, check out "Skullcrusher" (thrash meets doom"), "Gasoline Dream", "Spiritual Void", "Horrorscope", and "Time to Kill".
My go to workout band, they always deliver.
One of my favorite bands of all time 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
It's guaranteed you will love any overkill song!!
Bobby Blitz recommended this? 😁. I love this band and I usually listen to the songs "wrecking crew" and "electric rattlesnake" when I run on the treadmill, it makes me run fast!
Big fan of Overkill. Need to check out Horrorscope and Spiritual Void.
Still as good as in the 80's. 🤘🍻
Oh yesss, Overkill 💚 such a criminally underrated band, thank you for watch.
They have a lot of killer songs, very caotic. From they, i recommend "Horroscope", "I hear black", "Elimination", "playing with spiders/Skullcrusher", "Electric Rattlesnake", "Welcome to the Garden State" and "Bring me the Night" 🦇
I hope you enjoy. If you wish some other bands in that style, Exodus and Testament just fits well 🤘
Hell Yes!
This is my favorite band ! You should check out the song , Horrorscope a real banger 🤘🏾🤘🏾😁
Yo, love your videos. Wanted to comment to say thanks for making easy-to-read thumbnails for my stoned ass to easily read and pick whats juiciest. Love your tastes, always appreciate an open mind in music and comedy, two lovely things to watch reactions to.
😂 👍 It's about the small details!
I haven't listened to Overkill in a long minute, they are def an energy band. One day you're going to get introduced to Slaughter to Prevail and DOOM SLAYER by the lead singer Alex Terrible is one you will never forget....it's actually terrifying what he can do with his vocals. And Bonebreaker live in Moscow will have you shook.
Another great long song by Overkill at 8:14 in length is "The Green and Black" from their 2010 album "Iron Bound." It's got some really cool change-up parts in it that I really enjoyed. Try to find that song to react to.
Overkill rule and Blitz is a goddamn legend.
Horrorscope is their masterpiece, I would have suggested something from it.
One of the greats.
20 studio albums...theres a lot to choose from. My favorite albums are The Years of Decay, Horrorscope, Ironbound, Wings of War, and Scorched. All different, all heavy, all awesome
We don't call the singer Blitz for nothing!
Good one..
The 411 on Overkill:
This was a newer song from 2017 by Overkill... they have better ones from the 20 studio albums they have released since 1985. They are one of the most consistent thrash metal bands (like an AC/DC of thrash metal!) that never broken up or sold out to the industry... Overkill also originally had the "skull w/ batwings" mascot, which was later plagiarized & used by a more commercially successful band - Avenged Sevenfold...
Formed in New Jersey around 1980 by D.D. Verni (bass) and Bobby 'Blitz' Ellsworth (vocals)... the duo have been the constants of the band til today... Initially, the band was big on punk rock by The Ramones and bands like Motorhead (who had the song/ album 'Overkill' in 1979) and Judas Priest... but it was the sound of metal bands like Venom and Metallica that defined Overkill's musical destiny. A demo in 1984 got Overkill signed by Megaforce Records - the label that had discovered and launched the careers of groundbreaking 80's metal bands like Metallica, Manowar, Anthrax, and Testament... Overkill was then a 4-piece band w/ Blitz (vocals), D.D. (bass), Bobby Gustafson (guitar) and Rat Skates (drums)... Their debut album 'Feel the Fire' was released in 1985 and got the band signed to a major label w/ Atlantic Records and a tour opening for Slayer... Overkill released their 2nd album 'Taking over' in 1987, as well as the "F+++ You!!!" EP as the band grew in popularity in the US and Europe... Drummer Rat Skates was replaced in 1988 by drummer Sid Falck (who was replaced in 1993 by drummer Tim Mallare) ... MTV airplay gave Overkill 2 of their biggest records - 'Under the influence' (1988) and 'The Years of Decay' (1989)🤘🤘
However, guitarist Bobby Gustafson was fired in 1990 after clashing w/ bassist D.D. Verni... Overkill opted to replace him in 1991 w/ TWO new guitarists - Merritt Gant & Rob Cannavino... and had a promising record 'Horrorscope' (1991) ... However, the 90's grunge rock scene soon reduced the popularity of heavy & thrash metal and Overkill found themselves dropped by Atlantic Records by 1995 and both guitarists Gant and Cannavino left the band... Rather than fold, Overkill switched to a minor label and hired new guitarists (the late) Sebastian Marino and Joe Comeau in '95 and were still welcomed in Europe where they thrived on tour and record sales.
In 1999, Dave Linsk (guitar) joined Overkill and would remain til today after replacing Sebastian Marino... guitarist Joe Comeau left in 2000 and was eventually replaced by Derek Tailer (guitar) who is also still in the band... In 1998, vocalist Bobby 'Blitz' Ellsworth was diagnosed and treated for cancer; thankfully, he would make a full recovery by 2000 and Overkill was back on tour.
After Overkill's 15th album 'Immortalis' in 2007 and Ron Lipnicki (drums) joining, a thrash metal revival would rejuvenate the band's record sales and Overkill would see newer albums like 'Ironbound' (2010) make the US charts once again since 1993... Ron Lipnicki was replaced in 2017 by Jason Bittner (drums) and Overkill's 20th album 'Scorched' was released in 2023.
Check out some classic Overkill tracks - 'I hate' ... 'Feel the fire' ... 'Necroshine' ... 'Coma' ... 'Where it hurts'... 'Wrecking crew'... 🤘🤘🔥🔥
Older Overkill is totally badass! Check out their album Years of Decay!
The mean green killing machine is Overkill and their fans
I don’t know how the rest of their stuff sounds, but they remind me a lot of Accept
TESTAMENT next
As someone who became a Metalhead during the whole Big 4 era, I would argue that as for name recognition in the Metalworld at the time, it should have been the Big 8, or even Big 9 depending on where those bands are today some 35, 40 years later.
The Big 4 were of course Anthrax, Megadeth, Metallica, and Slayer. They were the Big 4 ONLY because of their album sales. Many people don't know that. Most folks probably think that it was just due to popularity, dates that they debuted and whatnot, but no, it was just album sales. Which is funny, because Anthrax wasn't really all that popular past 1988. Their '88 album "State of Euphoria" wasn't all that good. However, their '92 album "Persistence of Time" was back on track.
So OK, who would be in the Big 8 or 9 depending on who you ask? Aside from the Big 4 already mentioned, I would definitely put the next 3 in that list...Exodus, Overkill, and Testament. Those three bands were just as popular and well known in the Metal Community as the Big 4 were. So we should have had the Big 7 at least. Now then as for a couple more bands that were out at the time that got fairly popular were Flotsam & Jetsam, and Death Angel. Death Angel broke up in the early 90s when Grunge hit but reformed in the early 2000s. Flotsam kept pushing thru in the 90s, and are still putting out stuff today.
But let's talk Overkill for a moment. Overkill was a slightly different band than most of the other Thrash bands at the time. The others were essentially West Coast, Bay Area thrashers that had a fairly similar sound. However, Overkill was was New Jersey and they had their own sound. It was more of a Punk Rock sound. Very fast guitar riffs, and rough, raw vocals. The band has gone thru about 4 generations of line-ups, excluding drummers of course...drummers seem to be a dime a dozen for most bands. But the band started with a single guitarist for their first 4 albums up thru 1989's "Years of Decay" and then for 1991's "Horrorscope" they picked up two new guitarists that played with them till 1995. Then another two guitarists for the rest of the 90s. But then finally in the early 2000s, they got another two guitaists and they've been with the band till this day. Overkill has been one of the busiest original 8ps Thrash bands of all time. They put out a new album between 1 and 3 years. The pandemic played a bit in the delay of this last one, as it did for many bands, but we could rely on a new Overkill album almost every 2 years at least. Most are pretty good, some aren't though for whatever reasons. I've found that on a few, the mixing isn't that good. The bass is a bit tinny on some. 1993's "I Hear Black" was a bit thin, as well as 2014's "White Devil Armory.' But most are really great. One of their most well known albums, 1988's "Under the Influence" got a well deserved remaster in recent years by a company called Rock Candy that really brings that album up to modern standards. The original version was not only thin sounding it was kinda weak sounding, if you know what i mean.
But anyway, hope you enjoyed this song here off of their 2017 album "The Grinding Wheel"
Yes, all about the sales...
So if someone wants exchange bands, he has to turn back time to buy a bunch of albums back then.
Big4 is the most meaningless term in Metal.
Oh need to leave a comment here. First of all, first of all this is not a song I would reccomend as a first time listen😅
With that said. I'm an old school thrash metal fan. I grew up with the big four. Loved them all, but today if I had to say who the big four are in the light of history, only Metallica survived due to the insane 5 first albums. The 3 others are overkill, testament and Kreator. When it comes to overkill I would recommend "bring me the night" as a first listen. And yes I loved slayer, anthrax and megadeth back in the days. But they don't really keep up with the "real" big four😊
You need to check out the band Within Temptation! Faster, Sinead, and Wireless a great songs by them.
Without exaggeration I've probably seen Overkill about 15x.
More Hardstyle reactions! Please!
And since I want you guys to check out more thrash metal. Why not Totalitarian terror by Kreator. It's like this song when it comes to speed. Maybe a more like sabaton when it comes to content.
Overkill was by Men @ work back in the early 80s!!!!!!!!! From The land down under!!!
Don’t think this is the same one 😂
Nothing is Perfect by Metric, music video request plz ❤😊
"Mean Green Killing Machine" was an American soldier's slang term for themselves during the Vietnam era. Also, "Overkill" was Metallica's Kirk Hammett's band before joining Metallica.
I think you mean Exodus.... which is another band they need to hear - and another very unique voice (Zetro). :)
Hammett never played with Overkill. Not sure where you get your information.
How do these songs get selected??! 😂lol 🤘🤘
I love Overkill but definitely more advanced thrash not widely known!
2 of my favorite not widely known thrash bands are Lazarus AD and dust bolt. Dust bolt is the next generation of thrash. Young kids with that anger that so many other thrash bands started with back in the 80s. 🤘
Very mediocre track. Not a patch on the very early stuff
Who picks this garbage???
I'm sure we'd think most of your music is garbage, too. That's the beauty of music, there is something for everyone and you don't have to like it all. The question is do you have the decency to respect others choices? Seems not.
@@Patryn71 nope !!
