Years ago I stepped away from the hobby because of lack of time. Now that I'm retired/disabled, I have all the time but limited budget. I have est. $150 ea. stuck into my 3 WPLs. Best part is they're big enough to tackle the outside and small enough to crawl around inside on furniture or a stack of pillows🥰. On my C-24, I've installed a Bluetooth speaker in the camper top that's hinged on the tailgate. It's my favorite hiking buddy after my dog.
My c24 has been a great base for modding and as it is so cheap you're never scared to screw something up. And it has never let me down, occasional niggles but still going strong.
I've built and rebuilt 5 of these, built 1 to a monster, my stock with light mods was best (2 speed and better esc). I stopped buying them because the axles kept slipping and I lost the locked diff pretty. My SCX24 Bronco out drives my WPL in all situations except when larger size is needed for the line. Thanks for the video, wpl is a good intro line for starters.
I have a C24-1 slightly modded at the moment but mostly stock. I have suspension and tires on the way which helps a lot with any trail truck/crawler rig. The steering links are also in need of attention, but the stock setup is enough to get up and over some moderate rocks and dirt hills. The biggest thing besides the bouncy suspension that is holding it back from steep climbing, is it needs more weight in the front like a weighted spare tire or a metal bumper upgrade. Those are like $10. Also waterproofed the board and where the wires are bare soldered onto the motor to help with water crossings. Already ran it up to the bottom of the cab and it went through like a champ. I also added panel lines and looking to load up the bed with stuff to make it custom. They come cheap, but not so much after $150 in upgrades to make it good. Bottom line is like others have said: if you don't like tinkering with your cars, spend more on a rig that already has all the goodies and avoid WPL
I've got a c24 fully modded/upgraded with 2 speed, 2445 3000kv brushless, metal axles, oil shocks etc. For me it's a great little rig. Decent power for hills and jumps and enough torque if I want to get a bit technical going over rocks. Can also hill climb almost like a rock bouncer lol
You need to buy a metal kit and put some dependable electronics in the truck and then it will have some performance and durability. The RTR versions are weak.
WPL vehicles from the official site are leaps and bounds better than the first versions the chassis are thicker steel . The drive shafts are thicker and use set screws and are not just pushed on to the pinion yokes like the first versions, and they all come with a 180 motor now instead of the tiny 130 that the first versions had.
You gotta get the KM kit and build it yourself. All the good metal parts plus bearings. You get to put in your own electronics and it's not much more money.
Definitely a bang for the buck, had my C24-1 2 years ago and did alot of modifications to it, turned it from a trail crawler to a prerunner type. The aftermarket parts are cheap and available, I actually used an aftermarket d12 gearbox for it so it runs so fast compared to it's stock form.
Omg haha so it's rwd and fast ? Did you soften up the susp and lock the diff? What parts did you use and where did you get them? I'm so interested !! Haba
@@foxhoundra6444 I made the suspension parts myself in CAD and got it printed. Then I bought some aftermarket oiled shocks for the suspension. The axles are already locked stock, I just bought another aftermarket parts when the diffs stripped. Also , you can find some footage of it running in my other channel; Unit76. Or you can just search WPL Prerunner, and no it's not the brushless one by GOINGNOWHEREINLIFE, though you can also go that route if you want a total 4wd basher that goes 30+kph 😅
C24-1(all plastic) was my first crawler and it was perfect to learn about this rc “category”. And now I have C24, C44 and C54(built it for my wife😄) in different upgrade stages. Toy price, entry hobby grade and easy accessible upgrades, perfect for beginners. C44 is probably one of the rc’s I will never sell😂
I totally agree. C24-1 was my first. I learnt how to solder and change engines ( 370 ) and fool around with shcoks etc to improve. Cost me AUD$60 ! They are an awesome beginner platform.
I have five or six, I love those little things. I have a c14 it's probably my favorite the same truck, you can get for 20 bucks still drive shafts and wider axles from FYE I think not really sure can't remember it's been a while but they're great lol.
Mine is stock and it works fine. I take mine through the mud and snow (i waterproofed it) The only time it broke was when my grandson threw it against the wall, and when I drove through 1 1/2” rocks at full speed, I broke the pinion on the front end. Both times it was an easy fix.
Ahh man, tbh the RTRs suck, only good for light dirt running for the kids. Go for the KM versions as they come with much softer and grippier tyres, WPL ResV3 electronics or your own crawler electronics and you'll definitely change your mind.
Bro I got both of the wpl d12 and c24 swapped portal axels onto the c24 with new wheels and tires. Just built a drag truck d12 so I put the old motor in the c24. It's rips man it's great
I bought C34KM and C44KM ("Land Cruisers") kits. These have the metal parts upgrades. Plus, I bought some spares and other metal upgrades, along with their controller bundle, sound card and speaker for each. They're a relatively inexpensive his and her's project to increase my wife's knowledge and interest in the hobby (she already has a modded Power Wagon SCX24, Tamiya Ford Escort rally car, and an Arrma Senton Short Course truck).
I got one of these off Amazon, and I have a very challenging rock crawler cause built solely with around 4 tons of mixt rocks for my 1/10 rock crawlers and this crawler can do it with no problem out of the box. I think they are great value for money and a really great starter for any age. Well dun WPL.
Hey brother, love the channel. I am a bit of a WPL fan boy and would highly recommend that you try their KM kit metal series. Metal axels and a 2speed with a 370 motor and metal driveshafts. Bit more money and only in kit form but my channel has some footage of what the metal version is capable of. Also, their B-series of trucks are leaf sprung and move very scale.
I am sorry but i have to disagree. Having such low budget it's hard to buy anything better. This is not so easy to brake if you are using it in standard way and it's quite fine as a stock base for anything to do
I have the B36KM series, which I believe is the best WPL has to offer. But even the KM kit didn't have metal gear servo so that was its weak point and stripped out when I tried a little side hill crawling. But there is a lot of aftermarket support and I purchased a stronger fully metal gear servo which works great for under $13 Honestly I love the little trucks but they are designed for trailing not rock crawling, IMO. I have the D12 also, and the C34KM is on the way.
I'm new to the hobby and still trying to figure out where the sweet spot is in terms of value for money. I have an SCX24 which I've spent about as much as the price of the car on upgrades, and I wonder if I'd have been better off spending my money on a stock car that costs twice as much as the SCX24 in the first place. This WPL is about the cheapest in its genre, and I know from other hobbies that the cheapest option is pretty much never the sweet spot. I mean you can upgrade it, but then it's not the cheapest option anymore... Yeah the Base Camp will probably be nuch better than the C14, but then again it's almost 10 times the price!! Meanwhile there's the FTX Ravine, which is about 3 times the price of a C14. I'd imagine that a C14 with $100 worth of upgrades would not perform as well as a Ravine, while a C14 with $400 worth of upgrades _may_ perform as well as a Base Camp? It's a tough nut to crack!
@@rcloner1895 I have a V1 that I bought just this side of new from a hobby shop owner's personal fleet, and it's been great. I have no reason to sell it.
I changed my response since you really weren't talking about the WPL stuff. The best bang for the buck in RC is to buy used from someone leaving or upgrading. Otherwise, the SCX24 is a good starting place. They're comparatively reasonably priced, good quality, tons of support, compact and portable. Since you said you did a lot of mods, I'm guessing it did it's job and your hooked, lol. You're biggest problem now is not losing relationships with significant others that think your (expensive) interest in toy vehicles is ridiculous and immature, hahaha. Welcome to the hobby my friend.

Solo necesitas paciencia para ponerlo a punto. Yo tengo dos el c24 original y y el 54 uno en plástico con motor 370 una sola velocidad el otro dos velocidades motor 380 modificado.
What do you expect for 50 bucks !!!! You act like it should be a trx4m....
Technically this was $0 and I was still disappointed.
I.m sorry it broke
😑 meh
I really think anything under 1/10 scale is a bit of a waste of time. Just my opinion

Thanks for arguing with me! Made my day lol
I think 1/10 is where it becomes a real hobby. A lot of people just want to get in with a car they can personalize a bit without ever having to justify the cost of it being a real hobby. It's not a waste of time if you don't have the time to begin with.
