Ulanova was a miracle on the stage. I don't know how she did it but she didn't dance across the stage, she floated across it. She always had this superhuman quality about her, almost ghostly.
I agree 100%! :-) In fact, many balletomanes say that the main role in Giselle is strongly associated with Galina Ulanova just like the role of Odette-Odile in Swan Lake is strongly associated with Maya Plisetskaya, the best-known Russian ballerina of the 20th Century besides Ulanova.
That's true.I feel like Alonso was a crisper, more bravura type dancer, who excelled in roles like Odile and Kitri (but was still pretty good at softer roles like Odette and Giselle), and that Ulanova was the other way around (softer and more billowy than the sharper, fearless Alonso.

She sure captures the essence of Giselle' s pain. C. ❤❤
Amazing interpretation!! Don't forget about Carla Fracci also :)
The iconic Giselle mad scene.
A truly great great artist! So moving...!
this gives me shivers

Best Giselle I have seen!!! A true artist.
That's acting ladies and gentlemen! I thought that Alicia Alonso interpreted better Giselle in term of acting but she beat her flat out!

The gold standard
@SuperZurga Absurd for you maybe. Alicia Alonso is great but Galina Ulanova was better. Everyone has their preference.
@sweetaliena
What an absurd comment.
Two great dancers each with their own style.
As for me, I prefer Alonso.
What about Anna Pavlova?
For me there is too little action in this ballet.
