Thanks for this. I first visited Guernsey that year at the age of six. We flew from Manchester Airport on Ascension Day (whenever that is) and stayed at Hotel Saint Helene in St Andrews. Recognised the aircraft in the footage. Loved the sequence from the Little Chapel, at the time the first time I saw a building that fitted my scale. Does anyone remember the water scooters on the Yacht Pond? Pond is still there, scooters are not. We had hot and sunny weather, got seriously sunburnt. We lived in an industrial city with associated pollution so didn't expect this. Went to Herm and got fried! As a family we went to Guernsey each year save one until 1970. Have been back since and still love it.
loved it - remember the excitement of the Vickers Viscount to Guernsey in the early sixties - was on one when an engine failed - as child it made my day - but I think those with more understanding than a five year old were somewhat unsettled
James, I was on a Viscount leaving Guernsey in about 1979, and one of the port engines was shut down somewhere over the Hanois. We returned to Guernsey airport. It turned out that there had been a fire warning in the cockpit, so the pilot shut it down. Same flight? I was about 15 at the time. Very scary.
Virtually unchanged nearly sixty years later! And long may it continue!
