Thank you so much PJ for reaching out to me, as well as the wonderful support from the CLK family and the Lockfather himself and all the rest of you in the comments and the feedback you’ve given. It’s a wonderful industry and your all wonderful people. I’m humbled and grateful. #lockboss
Thank you for giving your mind. I'm right on the edge of doing something significant in the hobby/industry after amateur dabbling for a decade, and this helped round out my mindset.
Nice video, I started out pretty much like your guest in 1972, with my business, I hauled garbage, started at 4am usually done by noon. Had my shop hours accordingly. Next I operated a gas station and had set up there with a step van. Last step for me back then, I opened a bike shop, added a fire extinguisher business and employees. Sold off bike shop and stuck with the locksmith business and extinguisher business. Sold those shops off in 1980 and went into insurance business. I kept my Ziph pin kit, hand tools and key machine. Now since 1999, I missed the trade and started out doing simple locksmith stuff in a pretty remote area along with a convenient store. Advertised I cut keys that fit. In 2019 I sold the store, set up a van and am a 1 man shop near the MN/Canadian border. My business is mostly commercial with some residential. Have a regular cargo van with ALOA stickers on front, back and sides. Business is growing by word of mouth and I keep as busy as I want to be. Great show, love CLK videos #Lockboss
Great interview. I relate to Bob. I have been locksmithing since 2013 and still keep working my full time job at a local hospital in the maintenance department. Thanks for your story, Bob and good luck in everything you do. Thanks PJ #Lockboss
Bob is an awesome locksmith. He does put food on the table. Does Bob have a family and how do they feel about him working so much. O like Bob's professionalism and honesty when it involves dealing with customers and other locksmiths. No need to cut throat lots of work out there for everyone. Just do it right like Bob said so that it won't become someone else's headache. Don't put another locksmith in the position of having to swallow the knowledge that the one who did the work did a hack job. #Lockboss
I'm right on the edge of going from hobby pro grade automotive to probably physical security, not just locks but other stuff as well, and this was really nice to listen to. Community engagement is something I didn't think about in my area, looking for other independent or friendly service providers. Especially ironic coming from a tight knit community of Auto enthusiast as I did, I would have expected better of myself. I'm very envious of that van for sure! I wish I had that kind of mobilized workspace even for my cars :)
Knowledge is power.. I know not everyone can be a locksmith.. it takes a very special individual.. I specialize in lockout’s.. cars and houses.. I leave the really hard stuff for the ones who have to feed their families #lockboss
thanks Bob for your way of getting into locksmith and still working at another Job that's awesome and yes locksmith should be professional and have integrity thanks for sharing Lockfather 🤠
What a great guy! I would generally refer to him as a "go getter", ambitious and ready to go to work. A good example of someone who's working towards being "the #Lockboss"!!
Bob gave me the answer i have been looking for. Years ago I took the Foley-Belsaw course in locksmithing but stopped mid way due to life. Recently I got my locksmithing itch back and am looking into getting into another course. The problem is, I work full time in law enforcement and didn't think i could do both. I probably wont be able to do it full time along with my job now but seeing what Bob did gave me hope. Even if it is only on my weekends. Thanks Bob. #LockBoss
Great interview with Bob on his double career. Good thing he is young and has the stamina. He will make a good full time locksmith some day with his energy and good attitude for customer service. #lockboss 👍🦊
I really love hearing about how others get started. because there are a lot of similarities to how I started I was a church maintenance guy #lockboss bob thank you for you service
#LockBoss. Awesome 👍. He reminds me, I am almost like him. At night I am a truck driver pulling out container from LB/LA port. Work hours 4pm to 3am. Monday to Thursday. In the morning time I do my mobile locksmith buisness from 10am to 2pm Monday to Saturday. Sunday I am off. I also took Foley Belsaw Locksmith study course in 2015. Then worked for a Locksmith company in the key shop for 2 years and at the same time working full time in as a truck driver at night. The Locksmith company i was working for sent me to school again to get my Locksmith license. I went California Institute of Locksmithing 2017. 2018 the Locksmith company close the business here in Los Angeles, CA and moved to Texas. That is when I started my mobile Locksmith buisness.
Great story!! I can relate I do hvac and plumbing full time for 20 years now. I have a hvac and plumbing company of my own part time and also have a locksmith business I’ve been doing for 25 years. #LOCKBOSS
Very interesting interview. Really like hearing everyone's story and how they are all different. Thanks PJ and Bob for sharing and thanks Bob for your military service. #Lockboss
Thanks Bob and Pj. Always valuable content from #clksupplies I'm also in industrial maintenance. Hearing from someone who's maintaining both a job and a career is insightful. Shout out to the the #lockboss who get the jobs done and done right.
Great job, PJ! Bob, great job also! I'm in a similar situation with a full-time profession and a locksmith business on the side. Sometimes it takes a fair bit of juggling, but I love it! #AccessLockKeyLLC #HaulinBrass #LockBoss
Another great video! Thanks for having Bob on, it was awesome listening to him talk. He's obviously really passionate. I have a full time job where locks are a decent part and I do lock and security work as well on the side but I would love to step up the lock and security work and its cool to see someone else doing it and it gives me hope that I can step it up the way I want. I love being a #lockboss
Thanks Bob for your insight. I know there is no reference to any of the CLK followers. They sound like a bunch of ethically reposnsible professionals in th industry. Their experiences and CLKs guidance and instructions create the type of locksmith industry Bob exhibits. Thank you to everyone who does the job the waybl its suppose to be done. Goes to show everyone locksmiths start out in so many profession. Always dealing with the public. #lockboss
Great interview PJ and Bob-Bob is a great inspiration for any #lockboss and he has some great videos on his lock and van channels too. He’s a definite LockBoss for sure! Watch out for all those chicken wings too PJ 😁🐣
great interview. That's especially inspiring to me because that is currently my situation also, I work from 3pm to 3am and locksmith during the day ,when I have work. I've only been locksmithing for about two years part time. sometime its pretty tough for me but I'm gonna keep moving forward like a real #lockboss.
Really enjoyed the conversation you two had. Bob seems like a very personal customer first type of guy. Also watched his step van video and thought he had a really cool setup and got some ideas from it also. #lockboss
Thank you, Bob, for all the useful info! It definitely helps me with my situation and seeing how other locksmiths do their work. You, sir, are truly a #Lockboss like the sticker behind you indicates.
Love origin stories of the trade keep up the #Lockboss style. It's just my opinion but I believe you are making your name known in the transition of locksmithing and lock sport evolution. Welcome to the future and keep up the good work.
Killing it as usual. Love the vids and especially like hearing how some deal with the slow times owning your own business. I don’t know if I’d have been able to stay afloat at first without having handyman jobs to supplement . I love locksmithing and may not have kept with it if I didn’t enjoy the work as much as I do. This #LockBoss is thankful for the info and great prices from clk supplies.
I also have no permanent signs on my vehicle. The crime rates are going up in this area and the last thing I want to do is supply the criminal element with "burglary tools". #lockboss
Great video! Lots of good information. It was very encouraging to me. Im working full-time as a paramedic and doing locksmithing. I needed to hear this. #lockboss
Bob is right you should all ways be a professional don’t ever do a job half ass if it is something you can’t do ask someone to help you a. locksmith with more experience will be happy to help #Lock boss
Great interview! I, like BOB do NO auto!! You can only specialize so much as an independent locksmith pick your moneymakers and invest and learn! #lockboss
