    So cool! This is the chip that is in my FiiO brand DAC. I love seeing a more stripped down version of what is essentially the core part of my own digital hifi setup.

    used a 5106 in my last design. Nice cheap chip with good quality sound.

    I just got this board and managed to get output from it fed by a jab5 board. On the dsp the i2s output has "no processing" and comes raw(i think) from the onboard BT device through the i2s bus as well i believe. However the analog output i get is super loud and distorted. Does the i2s signal bridge need to be attenuated somehow? Jab5 i2s outputs 24bit 48khz.. Thank you in advance

    Hey this is pretty cool, Can you do a version of this showing how to do it with an ESP32?

    Can I ask, how exactly have you made Teensy audo card. I din´t got that part. I got, that u have played somethig from memory, but will it work the same way if I would play something from RUclips or something like that? Can someone explain this to me?

    Just got a teensy 4.1 and audio shield to do some audio processing, maybe I need to play around with some drum sounds first.

    • @GadgetReboot
      @GadgetReboot  4 года назад

      it was easier than I thought to get the drum samples working. I think it’s time I upgrade the teensy as well, partly because it would be good to have two of them if I want to do a bunch of audio processing and each one can only do so much, like audio delay taking up all the memory.
      when the house gets sold and all of the mandatory things are getting paid out like mortgage balance, legal fees, taxes, I’m going to sneak in a workbench stocking fee somehow.

      @@GadgetReboot Sounds like a good plan. 600Mhz clock in a small chip what more can you ask for.

    Is it possible to use this DAC to my ATSAM2133B MIDI module? The only missing component is a DAC. Can i use that board to my MIDI module?

      The datasheet mentions configuring digital data in I2S format so it should work then.

      @@GadgetReboot okay thanks. I tried several DACs such as cs4335, cs4340 and tda1311, all of them sound distorted. Hope this board works fine.

      @@vincem.exclusive9151 I don't have experience with the older dacs and they may be looking for data in specific formats while the newer devices have more options to configure. I've used 3 different modern I2S dacs with modern processors and it all worked effortlessly so getting a modern one to try on the old module is the best bet. If it's still not sounding right maybe there's something else in the configuration of the chip sending the data out, maybe it's just clipping and a different setting could help it.

      @VinceM Karaoke does sound come out from tda1311 ? i was trying to get output from tda1311 by connecting it to xmos u8,but it only gave white noise whenever i played songs.xmos puts out 32bit data and tda1311 can only accept 16bits.but i like tda1311 sound,it sounds very balanced and musical.all newer dacs dont come close to the sound of old philips and wolfson dacs.newer dacs have unbalanced sound i.e voices pushed forward to enhance background details and snare drums pushed back,this is the reason newer dacs sound irritating.

    Do you know if this also works with 24bit audio?

    • @GadgetReboot
      @GadgetReboot  4 года назад

      Yeah on the first page of the data sheet it says 16, 24, and 32 bit are accepted.

      @@GadgetReboot Yes, I am aware what the DAC can do, but I am talking about what the Teensy can do?

    • @GadgetReboot

      for the teensy three series according to this thread, they are sticking with 16 bit because of limited processing power but I don’t know if they have done anything higher for the teensy four family.

    Sorry, I didn’t get it.
    USB -> digital audio -> Teensy -> digital Audio I2S -> DAC -> Analogue Audio
    But at 05:38 how can analogue amp inserted on a digital path?
    🙏 thanks..

    • @GadgetReboot
      @GadgetReboot  3 года назад +1

      that is a digital amplifier module within software, so all it really does is scale the numbers representing the digital data for the audio signal and for example if you multiply the signal by two, the peaks are twice as high so it’s louder, etc.
