Dear, When the round grains are packed, then packing fraction is low because of the more space is left between the grains that results in higher permeability but in case of angular grains, they may fit in random directions leading to a higher packing fraction and resulting in lower permeability.

To achieve both a strong mold and good permibility and also nice finish ,the use of angular and round particles,both big and small .
