    I enjoyed how you shared and explained the dining culture differences between Chinese and Americans. Very well presented! I experienced this when I was working in China, and I grew up in the US. It took me awhile to understand it.

    The standard is 15%, 20% to 25% for especially good service.

    Thank you for this useful video! Planning a trip to NYC, I was looking for some information about paying at restaurants etc. (me being from the Czech Republic, I believe we have pretty different customs). This helped me a lot.

    Many restaurants will not allow you to split the tip if there are over a certain number of dinners.

    You know, in the lives of the: " not so well to do," more families would go to restaurants if they didn't have to pay sales tax and tips in addition to their bill.

    this video is helpful, like I know I need to tip, but how do I tip? this video talks about the details, what questions that people from Asia or other area may have about tipping culture, (like in Asia, it'd be really awkward if you're being generous to tip someone but yet you ask for the change, that will turn you from a generous person into a cheap person. This video pointed out details like that, so I really appreciate it)
    I respect the culture difference, but it's just that sometimes I couldn't help but wonder why would you Americans expect customers to pay you more when you leaves this troublesome tip matter to your customers? 🤷‍♂
    If we'd like to serve people, aren't we supposed to make things simple for the people we serve and take care of this tip stuff/waiter's income stuff inside our own restaurant?

    This video is really informative. I just moved here to California. I didn't know that it matters to them when not given any tip. For those who never received any tips from me, I apologize. T_T

    I'm a food server and I think 25% for fair service and 35% for excellent service. 22% for take out. Half service like buffets should be 20% Just my opinion. Keep in mind in my state, we only get $11 per hour for wage, so we rely on tips if we want a good professional equivalent salary.

      How would you tip at buffet? Those percentages are too high 😂

    • @carlafannin8901
      @carlafannin8901 Год назад

      That's rather greedy. I've been a server for many years and I'm very happy with 20%. We do rely on tips and it's very much expected. 15% these days is kind of insulting but 35% is pushing it.

      Yeah… If 35 becomes the norm, I think many people will decide not to go to restaurants. That’s crazy high.

    Hi there. All the way from South Africa, I'm so uncomfortable going to a restaurant mainly because, I'm worried about how people will judge my eating. I mean like eating rice, toast and eggs.
    Can u please help. Thanks in advance

      In the U.S. you will be ordering from a written menu, either breakfast, lunch or dinner. So just pick whatever you like from the menu, no body will care what you order as long as you are kind and leave a tip.

    Can you pay by card but tip cash? If so what do you put on the bill where it says tip do you put 0?

  • @INFP-T50
    @INFP-T50 5 лет назад +6

    The tip is made from discrimination.
    Stores should pay the right money to their employees.
    We have to end this bad system.
    Time is also very wasteful.

      If you don’t have the money to tip, don’t go to that restaurant.

      Quick Q: why do we add the tip after we receive the card? The receipt w the tip just stays on the table?
