Thanks for the help. I sewed one up a little bigger for my Hobie Outback. Made it out of a 6x8’ medium weight tarp. I was able to salvage the grommet and sew them to it. Total material cost about $11. Works great. Thinking about a bimini or umbrella mount next. It is hot in Texas, but the bass are big.
Agreed. I have decided to go with an umbrella mount. I can get golf umbrellas for $5 at Home Depot, making them disposable. Being able to reef the shade quickly from the kayak is probably critical when winds develop over water.
Spray foam insulation inside the tube for reinforcement. Also that rod is going to rust very fast. Good thing you paint the outside. Maybe paint it again with flexcoat.
Hope Charlie had a good time, he is a fine looking Aussie, I call Mo over when he shows up in the videos and its pretty cool watching Mo's ears go up, when he sees him.
Dude you have the best channel on RUclips. I was stationed at kbay for 2 years. I use to spearfish there a ton. Keep makin vids dude youre gonna blow up. I love that u catch big fish on penn fierce reels. On our channel we try to show folks you can fish without expensive gear. You exemplify that! Great vid man.
Got the 2 man with amas trampolines and sail. Sail is very nice if the winds pick up as you can tack your way in. Got caught in some offshore 30-40 mph gusts out of nowhere in olowalu when we first got it. Pulling 14 knots with 1/4 sail. My brother was out on the ama holding it down but still out of the water half the time. Had to hold the rudder control with both hands just to keep her heading into the wind somewhat.
Did you attach the line of the sail to the back of the kayak or closer to you, like where your hands are just wondering if the fishing poles got in the way
Having the option of adjusting the amount of sail is key. I can see your issue with the small yak and no amas. Have seen some diy options though. I have been wanting to get a single man so I can go when I want to go as the 2 man with amas is quite heavy, especially with wave surge and bag full of fish.
All or nothing in this set up. As long as the wind isn’t more than 15 knots that full sail is okay. Landing with a fish bag full of fish and water can easily flip you.
Nice diy and great walkthrough. I live in hawaii kai and am looking to get a kayak and make a sail like yours. How does the revo and sail work out for you now?
You have some new real estate now put your logo on the sail. It would be wise since you are building a brand. And since, you know, you can sew . Yellow lettering. would look good. Pittsburg Pirates, Arrg!
Don't use steel garden stake pipe, gonna rust real bad. Better off trying to source aluminum pipe, if can't find blank aluminum look for pool cleaning poles
so this was the same thing I was thinking. The cheap metal used for the tree stakes won't last long. If you can't find aluminum get some electrical conduit from City Mill or Home Depot and plan on replacing when it gets too corroded. Painting and filling with expanding foam may help prevent corrosion and help with making it float if it ever finds a way to go overboard. Good video and good luck with your new sail.
Just came across of this. I built one like this when I started my channel. Used similar materials. Worked great. 👊

Nice job. I get torched regularly but I have a feeling I would get super tangled with a Bimini

I use that 8' pole for my shallow-water anchor. Put two wooden dowels inside that are 5/8" in diameter to keep it strong and from bending.
Mostly no, but if you can fish the outgoing tide you might have some luck.

Your manager did a fine job of keeping you on track for an excellent result. Aussie's are the best!
He sure did. About to take him hiking up koko head

That’s funny. Impossible to wear him out, but we came close today. The hike is basically strait up an extinct volcano.
Have an excellent weekend!

Thanks man. I am just getting into spear fishing.
That's my mother's sewing machine! What a beast! 😅

That sounds like an adventure. I don’t know that I have been out in winds that high, maybe a gust to 40. Glad you guys made it in okay.
You could probably troll at higher speeds now. Definitely more options for lures, maybe marauders or skirted jet heads?
I will probably start trolling more dead bait
Great instructional video! Can't wait to see the rest of the DIY's you have in store 👍
I love how you drive your kayak around in traffic by simply attaching a car to the bottom of it.
I realize I am kind of off topic but do anybody know a good site to stream new series online?
@Kash Cole i watch on FlixZone. You can find it on google =)
@Luke Marc Yup, have been using flixzone for since march myself :)
@Luke Marc Thank you, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) I really appreciate it!!
@Kash Cole You are welcome :)
Cool little project. Looking forward to seeing you fish again. Take care, from CALIFORNIA.
The Hobie sail is made to withstand extreme wind and he bent the mast by cutting it. Good video it is interesting. LOL
That's fantastic! Great idea and share! You're amazing
You are doing great design! It looks awesome.
Do you think a Harbor Freight tarp would work?

great diy! what speed u were able to get with it ?
Love your videos
Thanks
Did you make the mast shorter so you can pass your rod tip over when fighting fish?
Why dont u use a fibergass dowell they are flexible and strong wont break

Good ideas. I need to put more work into branding.
Fabulous
What was the name of that fabric you used for the sail?

I coated the inside of the shaft with two part epoxy. I agree that aluminum would be a lot better.
Does anyone know the diameter of the mast in the hobie sail??
can you make a video on your hook set up??
I will
Would it be better if the batten was flexible?
The wooden dowel is pretty flexible. Or flexible enough, I will know when it breaks.
@@FlyingFish_TV looks like it worked well.
👍👍
Good job ....go fish!
Still using the sail?
I’m not
Nice 🤙
the ceo of hobbie dislike this video
Checkout Key West kayak fishing channel hes got a pretty sweet rig
