Joins myself and Postart as we venture out to Friends of Amateur Rocketry in the Mojave to see some remarkable rocket projects. FAR flies everything, including liquid motors. There's almost always a college team testing a huge liquid motor.

Excellent! Awesome to see a lot of familiar faces. They do the coolest stuff out there, it really is a special place.

Was the last rocket recovered? If you slow it down, after the first flame, there appears to be a flame above the rocket. Did it have an issue, or did the flame travel up the channel of the extruded alum?

The flame at the top is just from the aluminum channels. It did, however, shred right at the end of the burn from what I understand. I'm not sure how much or if anything was recovered.

It was not recovered. Judging by the pings from the RDF beacon it came in ballistic.

Those first couple launches were really something. Gorgeous launch facility.

cool rockets! Can you explain how FAR works? Who's allowed, range hours, waiver limits etc. Thanks

Everyone is allowed! They have a calendar on their website where you book a day to come fly. I don't entirely know what the rules for general spectators are, but they are quickly responsive to emails.
