This set means the world to me. When I was a kid our house caught on fire and completely burned to the ground. My family lost everything, and obviously I did too including alot of my ertl stuff. A few days after the fire and I started my first day of kindergarten. My grandparents had bought me this set to celebrate my first day, and for the better part of two years this was my only toy while our new house was being built. I very much appreciate this blast from the past!
Ditto! It wasn't my first Thomas toy but it was my first Tomy and it was my favorite! I still have him along with the cattle truck and black Brakevan that came with him.
Over lockdown, I started collecting a bunch of the old Tomy stuff (I had, like, everything as a child but foolishly sold everything off about 8 years back) and it was amazing, the nostalgia was incredible. Also a bit of a flex to be able to score some items I never even had to begin with ;)
This takes me back. I remember recreating the Thomas Comes To Breakfast crash by building a wall for Thomas to crash through while humming the danger theme at the time I was hooked on the Your Favourite Story Collection VHS. That was my jam.
I'm warning you now, in time RUclips will riddle through your content one video at a time and see it as a 'kids' video. I now notice I can't win any appeals no matter what 'general audience' or 'adult toy collector' references I point out. This site is so toxic against creators now.

Inside, I’m actually crying while watching this video. I used to have all of these, but now... they’re just suddenly gone because they’re already old and now some might still be broken, but most are already gone and I can’t play with these old fun toys I used to have anymore. I miss it so much.
Words cannot describe how much I love the old TOMY line. The nostalgia I have from playing with them as a kid is already high enough praise for this excellent-quality toyline, but for me these toys have reached legendary status thanks to the old videos of users like TrainLover476, I grew up watching those vids constantly and I have immeasurable nostalgia for them.
I got so happy when I saw this thumbnail. The Thomas Big Set was my first train set growing up and I still have it, granted I don’t have the box and every individual piece has been mixed with the rest of my Tomy collection. The original Thomas I got with that set is now my daughters (that said she has already broken it after decades of wear and tear by me that I need to fix) and she loves it as much as I did
God the nostalgia I have for TOMY toys, the fact there was so many to collect and how easy they were to setup and experiment with. They were like the perfect toy for kids interested in model trains.
Yeessss. I got this set loose in a bin bag that my dad bought from a car boot sale which included knapford station along with a bunch of miscellaneous tomica world pieces, Gordon, Henry and another Thomas. I also remember trying to switch this set up a little bit by running the track under the road incline and whenever Thomas would go under the road would flick Thomas' switch causing him to stop which I would have to get a nail clipper and take a chunk out to have enoight clearance. Then I would take a knife to the piece and carve in crack details. Oh the good old days
I found this set in a charity shop for 20 euro, it was mostly intact, with the exception of a Thomas, but it did include a few yellow troublesome trucks and a Tomy Rocky as well as Annie and Claribel, I set it up and the track was intact. I plan on giving it to my Nephew for a future birthday
Bringing me back to my childhood. I had so much Tomy Thomas trains and track. The big set would be consider extremely tiny. Enough to fill a 15ft x 15ft room with no problem.
You’re lucky to just have a working Tomy james. Mine’s coupling snapped. Also: there are extra couplings sold online so you could fix you’re broken van there.
Same here. My coupling snapped twice, i had some spare thomas's from sets that my dad used the couplings of to keep james going. Unfortunatly, my james edward gordon and henry all have broken wires between the tender and engine
i remember my first ever thomas train set was a blast i had the thomas andpercy with a tunnel and probably 2x2 meters of track although it wasnt tomys blue track it still has the nostalgic thomas face same with percy. But im happy to say that i passed off those toys to my half brother after servicing them. I wanted the next generation to enjoy the nostalgia :)
Looking at this reminds me how worn out my models are. All my tender engines have snapped wires, half of my tank engine and diesels are either broken too or on the verge of it(either battery acid or just a motor that gave up), struggling to go up hills and in one case barely able to corner. Alot of scuffing has taken place too which i actually dont mind, it gives them the personal connection to me and reminds me that the particular scuffs and paint chips are from my childhood. This video was one heck of a nostalgia trip
Wow. Talk about a blast from the past. This was fun watch. I’m happy I’ve still held on to these types of products from my childhood. I remember when they went and changed the classic tomy tracks to the more “detailed” tracks after The Great Discovery came out. The wooden railway will always be my favorite. I mean the real wooden railway not the crap Mattel sells now. It’s actually quite depressing to look at a Thomas section in target and see subpar product. Take along was also another good one as those things could last for damn long time. Thanks for taking me down memory lane train boy. I really needed this. Keep chugging along everyone.
The Tomy line was my favorite as a kid. The Tomy James came with the cattle truck and black Brakevan and that was my favorite toy as a kid. I still keep it in my room as an adult. Good times. Good times.
Bro this was my first ever Thomas toy in the TOMY line. I got this set along with the little "Brendham Docks" expansion (Cranky and Bulstrode) for Christmas one year and I was so happy... 😁
Holy shiii I had this as a kid! It was always at my nan's so id always get it out whenever I'd visit so this is very nostalgic . Would go around car boot sales buying loads of Different rolling stock and engines for it
My frend and me used to bring all of our Thomas trains to eachothers houses with track and make a huge layout. Damm good memories, including all the blue track.
I remember having a lot of TOMY Thomas trains, as well as some other TOMY trains. In this way it was quite nice to have Henry or Edward running next to a Eurostar Class 373 or Virgin Class 43! I also sadly gave away all my TOMY Trackmaster stuff years ago, except for a Trackmaster Toyota Ambulance and a Daihatsu Minivan, which now form part of my Takara Tomy/Tomica diecast collection.
when i was younger i used to have the HIT toy and early mattel toys for trackmaster, and i will say i wish i never sold them, but i'm glad to have gotten Tomy to restart my Trackmaster collection
This was my very first Tomy set as well. This is giving me good memories and Marvinssignalbox was a Goat giving you James plus a Goods Train he can pull a shame about that van being broken but still you got a very good set plus two extra trucks as well.
I actually had this set when I was a kid, it was my first and this is very nostalgic for me, I also had James and Gordon who I got seperately, but for some reason I cannot find pictures of the Percy and Bertie set which I begged my parents for, since it also included Elsbridge station with the level crossing, by far one of the best stations in the range.
Honestly, if you end up reviewing more of these sets I wouldn’t be mad. All of your Thomas vids are just fascinating and fun to watch. Great stuff, man!
This was the first ever Tomy Thomas set I got as a kid, for some reason I also got Cranky and the docks track piece at the same time as well, idk if it came with the set. Christmas 2005 is a day I'll never forget.
I've noticed that the more recent Thomas sets are more so toys than they are trainsets. Original ranges like ERTL, Tomy/Trackmaster, Wooden Railway, Take Along, etc. were toys geared towards children sure, but they were more like toy trainsets. Sometimes you could get a gimmicky item and while those could be all good an fun, the real fun was creating your own layout mixing and matching track and locations like you would with any other trainset - Thomas or not. If anyone remembers the old original Take Along track, the bend piece of track with the set of points at the end? I would take a bunch of those and create a goods yard with sidings running parallels to one another. I had 2 Tomy sets and I'd use the gray risers as buffers at the end of each siding. I don't know how many times I did that to recreate the goods yard from Pop Goes the Diesel, or the siding Gordon would rest on at Knapford station in Season 1. With the more recent Thomas sets you can't make your own railway. Thomas goes to the shark aquarium...with crazy roller coaster, Thomas goes to the Jungle...with a crazy rollercoaster, Thomas meets a giant robot, and so on. They don't have anything to do with railways, and since they're one trick ponies the kids soon lose interest. I think that also ties in with the show's degrade in quality. Awdry wrote the stories in the way that he did because he was a railway enthusiast. Everything was about railways as much as it was about these characters. With later episodes (with the except of the Brennaissance thank God) the show has pretty much only been about the engines being characters, it doesn't really matter that they're locomotives. You could take the exact same plot from a Sharon Miller era episode or a HiT model era episode or whatever, translate it to a show with people instead of engines, and the core of the plot would not really change. If Mattel really wanted to fix the show and all their Thomas problems would go away, they should hire a writer who is a railway enthusiast and understands the characters. Having a railway enthusiast as a new writer is a crucial element that's necessary for Thomas' success and I've never seen somebody else mention it. I've heard people discuss how Awdry was a railway enthusiast that started Thomas' success, but never how Thomas needs a railways enthusiast in modern day to continue success. Railway realism is probably the foundation of what made not only the original show good but also the original merchandise, dare I say it's that railway realism that hooks anyone into Thomas.
So this was believe it or not was my first Tomy/"Trackmaster" Thomas set I ever got, it then evolved into being the base of every layout my little brother and I built whenever we visited my grandparents
I remember having a huge collection of Tomy stuffs. It was so much fun making layouts and other things and just playing with the trains. Sadly they were sold away, but I wish I could've kept that collection.
When I was a kid my Tomy James cames with the cattle car and black break van. I had Thomas Henry James Duck Mavis Diesel 10 Emily Salty And Murdoch. I had a bunch of take n play stuff to but... I miss old school tomy stuff.
This set and a couple others from Tomy and the wooden railway I've always wanted but never really got but I still enjoyed this era of thomas merch back when it was actually good
I had the Tomy 'Great Race' set. I'm not sure if that's the name, but it was based on the classic episode where Thomas and Bertie race. Whilst it didn't have much, I remember loving it. Tomy's classic blue track with the yellow points on the switches and yellow levers on the stop and go sections will always be a huge part of my childhood that I look back on fondly. I do miss the set dearly, as it got lost in a move when I was rather young, or was sold/thrown out by my father who didn't see the point in it, but I do plan on getting it again, or at-least buying the pieces separately to have one of my favorite Tomy layouts, or maybe just expanding it. Hell, I still remember the transition from Tomy to Trackmaster Classic, when packs of track or rolling stock came with pieces that were used to connect Tomy to Classic Trackmaster track and vice-versa. It's always amazing seeing these old Thomas toys, especially with how well-loved many were. I still have a Tomy Edward, as it was my favorite engine back when I was young, and he's definitely seen better days (broken motor, battery corrosion on contacts, and peeling stickers), but I wouldn't give it up for the world.
I remember i used to have a trackmaster set with a 2009 Thomas and what i think is Tidmouth station, i still have Thomas and his set but they've seen better days
Lucky! The only classic TOMY set I ever got was a knock-off from the mall! (Which wasn't actually that bad, but due to it only being an oval, it got kinda boring.) I plan to get one of these sets, just to have a little fun with it and probably keep the engines on shelves to show them off. Also, at 4:19, Thomas does a wheelie.
Personally I was a trackmaster kid but I did have some tomy stuff my grandparents had so I got a couple of those items such as James sadly the James didn't work I still liked him but he didn't work so I didn't play with him as much I had a tomy Annie and Clarabel some troublesome trucks the black caboose and the brown van and some blue track well other than me rambling great video as always glad to see some nostalgia
Usually the commutator on Thomas needs cleaning what I see often there is a ton of crap on it so that might be the problem. Another one might be a cracked gear you can fix it by putting baking soda on it and putting super glue and it fixes it make sure to use a paint brush to get the baking soda in the cracks first. Another one is the traction tires which might be dry after years of use
VERY lucky with that James indeed, most of the time on these tendered guys you see the connection between the tender and the engine severed. They did fix these eventually by insulating the coupling, but this was way after the Trackmasters came, and you could only get the TOMY stuff in Japan
Dude I’m gonna be 21 and I still have my classic Tomy Thomas engines and sets. I have two versions of Thomas, Lady, Henry, James, Percy, Toby, and many more
I could comment about the nostalgia from these sets, which I definitely feel, but I would like to recommend taking a qtip with vinegar on the end and putting it to the ends of the battery connectors. It will get most of the errosion off and just might save him. It worked on my salty one time
Ah yes. The train sets that always bring back memories. I once had many trains but some are Thomas characters from 1 to 6 and most of them are Japanese/Korean trains. And i also had so much track that my dad and I decided to build a layout with them (but there was no scenery tho). But a few years later got taken down 'cause I was moving out, and when i was 8 or 9 I had them back thanks to my mum. But nowadays I have different choices of having fun, PLAYING VIDEOGAMES (there weren't any fun games my dad downloaded for me but overall, i had fun)
Seeing this reminds me of my tomy and trackmaster toys. Most of them are a little worse for wear. For instance my James can't run using batterys anymore because the wires between his tender and him are broken and one of his tires are buggered, my stepney's stickers are peeling and his back coupling is now a rubber band and finally one of my express coaches front coupling is now just a rubber band as a makeshift replacement.
My first Thomas Toy was the Special Edition Wooden 2005 Birthday Thomas. Oh and by the way, you. Can use sandpaper and a file to take away the corrosion in Bulgy. Hope this helps.
This set means the world to me. When I was a kid our house caught on fire and completely burned to the ground. My family lost everything, and obviously I did too including alot of my ertl stuff. I’m so sorry! That’s just terrible! I’d be destroyed and ruined if that happened to me!
Respect
My First Thomas Toy was Actually a Tomy James!Had good times with it.
Ditto! It wasn't my first Thomas toy but it was my first Tomy and it was my favorite! I still have him along with the cattle truck and black Brakevan that came with him.
My first Tomy was Gordon!
Mine was obviously Thomas, but I did collected the others soon after. Good memories. 👌
same!
i never owned a tomy/trackmaster engine as a kid. i was more of a wooden railway kid
I miss tomy/trackmaster2007-2011
When everything was still right
Same
Ikr? Now, its mostly shit. I don’t even want to know what the future trackmaster sets will look like now that the season 25 trailer was leaked.
It peaked in 2012
Only ever had Thomases in this range which is annoying now but at the time I was happy as ever
I miss Tomy, Wooden Railway, Ertl, and Take Along so much! They actually cared!
Those toy brands were definitely the strongest veins of my childhood, still to this day. 💪💪
Tomy is still here there probably not discontinued yet
You can get them on Amazon.

I was such a dumb little kid lmao. I remember being in love with the episode Break Van. SO NATURALLY, I cut my tomy black brakevan to shreds- 🙃
This set and a couple others from Tomy and the wooden railway I've always wanted but never really got but I still enjoyed this era of thomas merch back when it was actually good
I just love the classic thomas and friends trackmaster and tomy trains!
The nostalgia in this set was insane, pls do more reviews on classic sets
It brings back so much memories. I remember recreating scenes from the show and make my own railway😔😔😔😭😭😭🥺🥺🥺

Very nice review! It's great to look back at the nostalgia of TOMY and their lovely sets.
Im always here for TOMY thomas,
Personally I was a trackmaster kid but I did have some tomy stuff my grandparents had so I got a couple of those items such as James sadly the James didn't work I still liked him but he didn't work so I didn't play with him as much I had a tomy Annie and Clarabel some troublesome trucks the black caboose and the brown van and some blue track well other than me rambling great video as always glad to see some nostalgia
Very nice review! I just got a massive tomy lot in the mail and I’m dying to open it!
That was my christmas present when i was 4 years old♡
It was also my favorite set
So that’s what the grey track piece was for. I had one lingering for years and I haven’t gotten the idea what it was for. Now I know!
Oh boy that set beautiful, gonna see if I can pick this up
hello (:
The Thomas big set was one of my first Thomas sets too!!
So many memories the good old days
I remember having the Tomy Tomica World Thomas Big Set when i was little me and my dad set it up on the table at my very old house in Petone
I agree! Old Tomy was the superior Thomas system.
A good way to get rod of corrosion is putting the battery contacts in vinegar for a while. It works wonders!
I remember have some of these when I was younger. Sadly had to sell them when we moved.
Great vid bro! I miss the golden days when these were still on shelves and everything
I used to have every single track master 1's and tomica a few years ago many nostalgia here
VERY lucky with that James indeed, most of the time on these tendered guys you see the connection between the tender and the engine severed. They did fix these eventually by insulating the coupling, but this was way after the Trackmasters came, and you could only get the TOMY stuff in Japan
Dude I’m gonna be 21 and I still have my classic Tomy Thomas engines and sets. I have two versions of Thomas, Lady, Henry, James, Percy, Toby, and many more
I never had this but I can say this is what T&F was all about and not all the goofy sets that have been released the past few years. This is Sodor
I could comment about the nostalgia from these sets, which I definitely feel, but I would like to recommend taking a qtip with vinegar on the end and putting it to the ends of the battery connectors. It will get most of the errosion off and just might save him. It worked on my salty one time
Dude I feel so old I used to played one of these in the golden days
Hahah i had the oval of track with Tidmouth station 😂
Good times...
i'm pretty sure this is the exact set i had as a kid, i still have some of the stuff from it sitting in my garage
Definitely them and I still have mine they are just in a bad condition but I did grow up the good thomas series as well as toys
This is the set I use to play with at my grandmas house
Yo I had that set too. Used to have it at my Grand Mother and I still think does. It looks great.
2:20 - “he could use more paint”
flip face James: “am I joke to you?”
I used to own this set when I was like 10 omg the memories
I remember having a big tomy set with talking Thomas and Gordon
