I've been playing on and off for 8 or 9 years. Getting frustrated, walking away and eventually coming back over and over again. After watching this, I feel like someone just gave me the secret weapon to slay a dragon. Thanks Joe.
Just ran across this tutorial. How can I say, it's mind boggling the simplicity you have shown me (beginner) how to practice at home.. I've had my guitar for 2 years now and have failed to adhere to any type of practice.....Until now. Greatfully thankful . Recommitted to this journey.
Thank you!!! It was awesome jamming with you at ground zero.. This video is like no other tutorial on RUclips. You keep it real!! I’ve learned so much.. I feel like I just leveled up.
I’m a beginner and have learned basic chords and grips.... but this gives me so many great things to practice and think about. COVID sucks, but is good for practice time. Thank you for posting! Powerful teachings
There’s a lot of good info here obviously. But teachers who feel the need to make every point a one upsmanship (aka roasting students) are usually miserable people. Actually in this case I don’t think that’s true. It’s just his delivery style.
Joe Wright you are a Brilliant Teacher and player. You would be my PSG Mentor if possible. Thank you SIR for your free lessons. Just what a beginner like me needed at this time. I am inspired to play as you do. Amazing! Bless You Joe
As a pro guitarist for half a century playing stadium shows and million-selling records, I can tell you that this guy speaks the truth. I’m learning the steel now and am using his routines. Gold-dust.
Wow, this guy is awesome... I'm brand new at PSG.. guitar 🎸 for 50 yrs...dying to learn PSG. I scored a 68' ZB Custom D10 , sitting in case..while I try to learn on a new Zum Steel Encore single neck ..this guy Joe, he motivates me..OKAY now I'm 15 minutes in and I LOVE yu Joe!!😅 uu said "Now yu think you've got it? Now start WORKING on it. Just amazingly motivating.omg this is badass. And at 25 min in Joe is now my favorite player ever! Joe, yu have a Michigan hat. But I just watched yu play Blue Spanish Eyes in North Florida..my best friend is in Gainesville.. so where yu at sir!?!
Sharing the story of a young couple, arrived in New York City to a hotel, and while in the lobby were behind Jascha Heifetz, concert violinist. Upon reaching the desk, the man asked if they could have a suite adjoining that of Heifetz, as they wanted to hear beautiful music on their honeymoon. Next morning, hubby was down at the desk asking to change rooms. It seems that Heifetz spent his hours in the hotel playing scales and long tones, arpeggios ad all those other things bowed instruments do. Except practicing an actual song. That is how we classical musicians were trained - the muscle memory comes first; then the music, and it's got to be constantly reinforced. And we also learned, as someone once said, "After one day of not practicing, I know it. After two days, everyone knows it"
One thing needs added to this SUPER Great Lesson... If you don't know Music, a short course in Playing by Ear will help immensely. Go see Karen Ramirez ,"Playing by Ear", to learn to hear what you are playing, then you can play anything...
Love that Joe mentions the wave people so with their bar at about 39 minutes. Lol Soon many people so this especially guys who have played slide guitar or bottle neck.
I noticed that, too. I can say from experience that when I'm teaching someone to play guitar, and the student is noodling or trying out stuff while I'm demonstrating or talking, we will have to cover it again and again.
He’s being slightly disingenuous of course: the difference between a technician and a musician is that the musician is able to make the sounds mean something to the listener and he is most certainly a musician.
Never saw u play palm blocking before this.....I LOVE the palm blocking sound!!
Joe's videos are some of the best, if not the best. What an amazing resource, thank you Joe.
I don't think you can find a better teacher than Joe. He is so motivated to bring
out the best in his pupils and it really shows in his methods.
This is the first time I’ve heard an approach to the instrument, void of genere, tonality, etc. It’s a game changer. Fantastic masterclass.
“You got $10k guitars and $2 hands” ❤️ I’ll remember this quote for the rest of my life!
Yes. Remind ms how we wd say "so n so would make any guitar sound good"
amen....
This is awesome. Love anything Joe has ever done for us all. Great player !
And great teacher!
Best teaching I've heard on steel.
Thank you Joe for everything you do for us beginners…….😄
This guy's the definition of a great teacher! So many musicians think they can teach, they can't LOL. This guy's a master!

Love the way he gently roasts them. A true passionate teacher. Would love to study with him.

Thank you very much for publishing this seminar. I have implemented it to my every day almost like therapeutic routine and it's a game changer.
The great thing is, this applies to any instrument. It's reminding me of what I need to get back to incorporating with practicing the guitar.
Thank you. I'm going to post this around Reddit.

This is PRICELESS! Sure wish this would’ve been available in 2015 when I lost my mind & decided to buy my steel.😂
Thank you for this excellent master-class.
Good solid teaching methods on repetition. Joe has the hands.
Great video with tons of wonderful practice techniques. You're a genius, Joe (and more than just on PSG).
This is amazing Thank you very much for this video!!!

How can i get ahold of that excel spread sheet
Great teaching!!!
Great content !
Joe, It looks like you use a shorter thumb pick, like you cut off a regular one. Is that true? If so, why? Thanks Joe
Trimmed down so I’m closer to strings. Underside of thumb is a blocker.
@@JoeWright_1955 Thanks Joe. BTW, we had lunch a few years ago in St Louis. I bid $100 for you (some charity thing) Take care Bro.
Is your right hand course available as a stand alone?
Yes. At pedalsteel.com.
@@JoeWright_1955 This one:? "Secrets of The Wright Hand Video #1"
Secrets is the right hand video. Also part of the analog years.
@@JoeWright_1955 DVD #2, Wright? :)
DVD 1, 2, & 3 are my technique videos. They are downloadable. Originally on VHS.
Half of them aren’t even listening bc they are all playing their guitar while he’s talking lol
You'll find that they're trying out what he's telling them! :-)
