Jeez no. Have you even heard/seen the original? You know, the one with the ethereal guitar and the heartfelt rending pain in the lyrics all leading slowly up to the most iconic drum break in music? No, you thought, we'll strip all that good stuff out in favor of a bland synthotech beat and a singer who thinks its a lullaby. Pomplamoose has done some awesome covers (7 Nation Army/Eurythmics anyone?) but this is *not* the way forward.

Sorry but no! Whilst I've loved virtually everything Pomplamoose has done over the years and most, but not all, of Scary Pockets, Magaziine is an experiment that hasn't worked. It is bland and anaemic. You are wasting the talents of India, who with Scary Pockets and 'Creep' did perhaps the best cover version of any song I have ever heard.

As others have commented, if you forget the original exists its actually a pretty funky thing. So weirdly, the best way to listen to it is to not associate it back to Phil's oringal, but take it as it's own thing.... except of course it's not.

@Aaron Schultz Agree. And it really depends what the point of the cover is. These guys like to change it up so on its own it works and whether we like it or not is probably a matter of taste. It’s like The Consouls covering Mute City (from F-Zero) as smooth jazz in complete contrast to the original. You could ask why but equally, why not?

While it's definitely an interesting take on the song, and I applaud you guys for not being afraid to try and create new narratives when doing your covers, This is one where you really can't do that without essentially killing the very thing that makes the song so memorable. It needs that sort of "I've been obsessively waiting for a chance to take you out" energy, with the sort of empty echo-ness of the vocals that highlights that energy which then comes to a head when the drums go hard near the end. India's voice is lovely, and quite honestly if someone who had never heard the original heard this, I can see it being enjoyed (and maybe that's the demographic you were aiming for with this?). But for anyone who knows the original....it just doesn't really do it justice.

If this was any other song, it would be okeyish i guess. But you took one of the greatest and richest songs in expression and vibe and took it into our time and there it became....mediocre. maybe some songs are not meant to be covered. Sorry, but thats the first time i am disappointed in a work of yours.

Sorry, but I'm not with you on this one. The wispy vocal/smooth feel doesn't capture the emotion of this song. I'm all for juxtaposition, but there's a limit. When you've heard it done the "right" way, it's hard to accept it any other way.
Regardless, love the music. love the vids. Thanks

I usually Love the music on your channel, I have to agree with the other comments. The missing drum solo and lack of tension being built in the song kind of ruins it for me. :(

Continues with magazines. Nobody else combines horny synthi sounds with wonderful female voices. Unfortunately, it seems to me that the intervals in which you upload this wonderful music are getting longer and longer.

It'd be okay as it's own song but making it a soft breezy cover of ITAT kinda misses the entire point of the original

It's...fine? It's got no punch, but the synth is good and the singing is nice. Other than the super breathy "heh. heh. heh" parts, but I have a dislike for that specific thing regardless of song, so not holding it against this one.

I think it is a shame that people are wanting this to be a Pomplamoose type of cover - Pomplamoose does Pomplamoose stuff & Magazine does Magazine stuff.
I do agree with one comment about the vocals getting lost a bit behind the synths, but that doesn't take away the fact that this, to me, is a great version of an iconic song.

"Pomplamoose does Pomplamoose stuff & Magazine does Magazine stuff", sure, but look at the channel's name : it's "PomplamooseMusic". We are on Pomplamoose's channel and this is for Pomplamoose stuff that 1,2K people follow this youtube channel! Magaziine should create his own channel for Magaziine stuff (but I understand that they prefer to take advantage of these 1.2 K listeners rather than start from scratch!)

Funny, I just got done listening to a bunch of Phil Collins stuff tonight and then I see this. Hate to say it, but this was a let down. The original was sooooo powerful while this was just bland. I can appreciate the talent in the room, but in the end, its just a watered-down cover of an already great song. No disrespect intended, just my honest opinion.

Interesting tune... but I would almost rather you made this arrangement into it's own song and it's own lyrics rather than a cover of In the Air Tonight. Seems like you could do something creatively interesting with this instrumentation and vocalist without having to tie it to an existing song.

Not so impressed. Don't like coordinated costumes like from "The Island" (versus own clothes style). Don't like the studio set (versus the in-our-living-room vibe). And don't like the absence of The Angst and Anguish of Collins' original. The emotion is gone. This song is supposed to *hurt*.

Sorry, but no. Vocal sounds like from a different song and more like groaning while laying a brick, not singing. The best of the original song, crucially what makes it god tier, which is the drums, melody and the atmosphere is completely gone. There is nothing left here to hang on to. I was glad it was over that quick.
