Horowitz somehow makes the piano sing like no one else. What I love about watching him play is the economy in motion. There's not one extra bit of movement in his hands, he appears to play in slow motion. A true master.
I couldn't agree more. You may like the way he plays or not, but there is no denying that there couldn't be more economy in his hands movements. There's not a single unnecessary movement. That defines him.
Correct me if im wrong but I think I hear a slight mistake in the left hand melody ( 2:20 )? He's still a legend nevertheless but I just wanted a second pair of ears!
Wonderful tolerance and understanding from an artist to perform while somebody walks around with a damned great camera! We are so lucky he allowed it. Thanks to all concerned for this video.
It is amazing to watch how this frail old man who can hardly walk and rasps when he breathes sits down at the piano and becomes a SUPERMAN. I am not just talking about the flawless musical virtuosity, I am talking about the sheer physical strength it takes to play any one of the lengthy piano busters that he always plays with perfection even at this advanced age. HOROWITZ is amazing and after comparing his performances to those of all the other major pianists of his era, including the much vaunted RACHMANINOV...HOROWITZ is still the best and in a class of his own.
Just close your eyes and absorb this wondeful music.Peace and quiet will be yours .. What a lovely piece of music. Thank you, Mr Horowiz for your ever lasting gift to us:-)
HIS DYNAMICS AR FAR OUT WELL CONTROLLED i love his playing the old masters are the best to mention some of these virtuoso pianist such as R,ubenstein, Emile Gelil, Martha Agerich. when he came to toronto to play I skip work so I can get his ticket. It was worth it.
This is better than a recorded version I've heard of Horowitz playing this. Good to know he could play it properly. I'll take those couple mistakes over a mistaken interpretation any time! Thanks for upload.
One of the first times I hear Horowitz play with some form of restraint a piece famous for being - wrongly - played by most at lightning speed as if it was nothing more than a show-offy demonstration of arpeggios. I’m not a Horowitz fan at all but there is some strong musicality here and I command him for it. Great performance.
Memorization comes naturally as you practice a piece, without much extra effort. It ends up being like 90% muscle memory and 10% actually thinking about the notes you’re playing. Also this piece in particular repeats a lot and is harmonically simple if you break it down. Mostly I, IV, and V chords.
Look at the back of Vladi's hands, as smooth & unmarked by labor as those of an 8-year old. Actors & actresses have similar hands. It's the easy way to identify those who've never lifted anything heavier than a teacup in their entire lives. Why not? Because "they have staff"...lol
Furthermore, Schubert wrote too many notes here. Also, everything looks old-fashioned in this weird room. And sometimes the rhythm is unclear (I have a bell metronome).
Not always the biggest Horowitz fan, but here we have a complete emotional world delivered with the utmost subtlety and artistry. Truly unique.

The guy has the best technic ever damn.

Watch Krystian Zimerman, Argerich or Stephen Hough... they all have this effortless technique. Horowitz is different though, his is more strange
_BIG smile from him at the end! I love this! He know's he nailed it! GOD bless Horowitz!_ 😁
Yes! Adorable smile. What a sweet man he was. Not one error and so beautifully played.
I also love that smile of his at the end. This is so beautifully played. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful video.

i know it's kinda randomly asking but do anyone know of a good site to stream newly released tv shows online ?
@Bodie Titan lately I have been using FlixZone. Just google for it :)
What a wonderful, wonderful musician, artist! Thank you. You have helped me in difficult times.
82 yrs old played....how many people can do this well?!!
1:40 he makes the melody notes sing so beautifully on top of the arpeggiated chords!
my professor got me here, thanks prof davis
I can listen yk Horowitz all day long! Currently learning this piece and this just gave me some inspiration!
Wonderful tolerance and understanding from an artist to perform while somebody walks around with a damned great camera!

one of the best performance I've seen on this impromptu
By far the best version of this masterpiece.
For me it's neck and neck with Perahia's version.
Nah, too fast. Pires and Brendel are better. Also wrong notes at 3:22
He's usually fast, haha
A few wrong notes mean absolutely fk all in the context of a performance of this high artistry
Nah Rubinstein is best performance of it

His Soft Touch yet consistent touch through the piece - takes a lifetime to master

Just look Wanda smiling at 03:57
lovely.
Gedackt 8 she says she doesn't look at him too fall under his spell, but I think she still does fall under his spell
I mean, it's Horowitz
Yes, I love this
This is perfect. Impossible to replicate. I've been trying for 3 years.
Of course. It's Horowitz. Inimitable.
Such a talent. Love this.
Really, what WOULD we do without the wrong-note-detectors?! Thank GOD they're here to educate all of us!
I wonder if those critics have pictures in their living room's walls with handwritten appreciations from the likes of Toscanini.
Do you have a video of you playing this piece?
Lets not forget about all the people with perfect pitch complaining about what key they allegedly hear
@@maratom34 he's being sarcastic
Has anyone in the human history ever owned this kind of touching the keyboard and creating the sound?
only in the alien history
Well Chopin, allegedly, owned a whole pallette of colors while playing.
I even try to imitate his sound but it’s impossible to achieve.. how the fuck he plays staccato so softlyy
sublime interpretation!
simply the best

Beautiful!
Sayaka Hatsuno is smart
Happy birthday 10/1 Maestro
1:40 😩😩😍😍😩😩
he loved playing at home, who doesn't... his dinner parties were marvelous, we all had Vlad for desert
What a pianist...
An awestruck recording.
2:41, that harmony hit different.
A lot of professional chess players don't have such a board at home.
The rules of chess don't chess with a more expensive board.

He does indeed play in a flat. Wished it could have been mine
2:27 👍👍👍👍👍
6:41 omg ahhhh
TurnUp EveryDay Hahaha...Wasn't he cute?!!
Very good
Very soothing to watch him. He plays like a 6-7 year old. Very nice.
Back in my music college days I was once compared to Horowitz by one of my class mates... 😳😳😳 thé best compliment a young pianist could get♥️🙏👍
@@WxcroOfficial thank you for your comment. You mind if I report you to the RUclips for harrassment?)) thank you for your understanding. Cheers!
- Der unvergessene Franz Schubert -
Sehr schön gesagt
Wow, that chessboard is really good!
2:29 trio
❤️❤️❤️
nice
What is the tuning of the piano? It sounds like 1 minor second up!
But the performance is really amazing!! Thanks for keeping this treasure!
I think it's recording not actual tuning wrong.
Interesting that this recording is sharp, played in A major rather than A-flat.
It's probably just PAL speed up (a 4% pitch raise)
@@Filipjensen I shifted it down a semitone and now it sounds normal.
How does he remember all the music? That’s my question.

@Richard Pope Indeed
Wait... How did his wife end up back downstairs towards the end? LOL.
She just... She just walked down..??
Sounds in a different key
2:10
must not disturb him while he makes love ...

he doesn't repeat the second half of the middle section.

Well if you think he got this skill by not working hard ull be very surprised...
Why does his piano sound like a Pencil that’s not sharpened well?
It's voiced for a residence, not a concert hall. You also have to factor in the recording equipment of the 1980s.
Effortless playing
LANG LANG MAGNIFIQUE PIANISTE !!!
hors sujet!
hm.. rubinstein style more nice....
$$$
Too fast.
Thanks for your opinion lol
sephirotic87 is stupid
sephirotic87 troll detected!

This is slower than the sheet music wants. Slower than Schubert wanted. The fuck are you talking about?
Beautifully played but am I the only one who hears this composition as just a bunch of arpeggios? I dunno, boring 😂
🤮🤮🤮🤮
