    "It's stupid to be safe, because ultimately, where it is you don't want to go... that really is the gift that you have to give." You've opened my eyes with this line, Amanda. Thank you so much.

    • @andy_manns
      @andy_manns 7 лет назад +2

      This is the line between creative and commercial success though right? The "safe" line doesn't exist if you are prepared to be selfish and do something for yourself. Your greatest gift as an artist is to trust your instincts :)

    Rilke suggested: "lovers must stand guard over one another's solitude." These two are true lovers.

    • @lovelyxskinny
      @lovelyxskinny 8 лет назад +5

      true lovers who feel the need to shag other people? unfortunately that's not love. If they're not fufilled with each other then how is it love?

    • @suckmyleftbrain
      @suckmyleftbrain 8 лет назад +33

      +lovelyxskinny speaking as someone who has been in a very committed open relationship with their partner for half a decade: having an open marriage like these two isn't a matter of lost love or unfulfillment--quite the opposite, it shows that you trust your partner to always come back to you, because you love one another enough that things like exclusive sex don't have to be the end-all-be-all of the relationship. you're allowed to find other people sexually attractive even through you're in a relationship, and being so secure in your feelings that you don't have to bother with heart-wrenching jealousy is hardly a bad thing. the level of understanding and communication it takes to be in an open relationship speaks to the strength of its bond, if anything.

      Zekiel Zelitch-Factor what an amazing way to explain what those of us in solid open marriages feel. thank you.

    Okay here is my story with you, Amanda Palmer.
    Discovered you three weeks ago in the Rich Roll podcast.
    Immediately ordered your book.
    Received your book today.
    Looked at your ted talk today.
    Saw this actual video today, and at the end of the video ... When you sang. Your lyrics.
    I just collapsed in tears.
    I don't know you, but I connect to you, I feel vulnerable. The essence of your
    message is connecting deep down, and I can't wait to read your book and to keep being inspired by your soul.
    You reflect to me a lot of answers I was looking for in my life.
    Thank You,
    Unconditional love from Montreal,
    xxxx
    Gabrielle

    I started watching this thinking "Oh lord, over an hour? I'll just watch some of it..." but I've watched the whole thing and I'm sad that it's over. I'm said that there wasn't more time for this interview. These are two of my most favorite people. I can't even deal with the love and joy that this interview brought me. They probably won't read this but I want to say Thank you anyway.

    So, I've loved Amanda since she was in Dresden Dolls. So, my Dad put a bunch of her music on my phone when I was little, and it's been a part of my life forever.
    When I was a kid, one of my favourite books was The Graveyard Book. Neil was a commonly known author in my home, and we were all raised to love him. I fell asleep to I Sold My Dad For Two Goldfish. My favorite stories are still Mirrormask and Caroline.
    Yesterday, I realized that one of my favorite musicians was married to one of my favorite autors and i think this information changed my mind.

      Basically the same happened to me, i only have listened to her music, and read his books without diving into interviews and their personal life, it was a weird and a amazing feeling to realize they are married. I don't understand why it meant so much for me but it did.

    This hits hard. As usual. But due to sickness I had to get off the train. Life if now just doctors and being sick at home. My mind is still so active but I can hardly leave home. Asking is so hard for me.especially with the last few months living with a grandma in law passing away. She needed the family and I understand but I do feel alone but worse when my husband has to see me so different than the girl he feel in love with in 1997. We just lost my husbands grandma a few days ago. I didn’t even get to see her the last day before she passed because I was so sick downstairs. I knew she was close but I thought I had more time with her. So truly spend time with people you love if you can because you never know. So blessings and love to anyone who may read this. Truly sending love.💖✌🏼❤️

    I think I'd have to say that this brilliant, witty, tender, fascinating interview is unlike anything I have ever seen or will ever see again. Their relaxed, loving, authentic communication as individuals and as a couple is stunning. The content of the interview is awesome. And yet the dynamics rise way above that. I do not know how I happened to run into this video, but am sure glad it happened.

    This was so great, so moving. Two outstanding artists, and what they have between them - that furtive look, that touch of hands, the smile and the words, that is the true face of love some of us hopefully recognize and secretly hope for. Oh, and Maria Popova was such a superb addition to this all, especially as I'm inspired, every week, by her blog Brain Pickings. And so thank you for uploading this, genuinely.

    So much here to love! Amanda and Neil are always amazing together. I was touched by Amanda's comments about her friend's illness causing him to have to embrace asking as my own illnesses has caused me to have to give up control and ask for help as well, more and more and by the gods, but is Jack an adorable child or what? That kid is golden! Thanks for this, Amanda. It made my night happy, sad and wonderful.

    Amanda did you ever want a "coin operated editor" when Neil was editing? I want a copy of the original book- that chunk. Neil are the publishers asking authors to stay with 280- 320 words? because as an avid reader/and buyer I am pissed off at books that seem to be missing something?! Amanda please come over and buzz my hair and fix my eyebrows- you are SO beautiful because you are natural, even when done up kabuki !!! (Promise me you two will never break up- I received ((I am Canadian and have had my vegetarian Thanksgiving in October)) two lovely animated shorts, The Mushroom/StreetJapaneseHomelessProposal) If you ever broke up- ASH IS BEYOND BEAUTIFUL, !!! there is no hope for romance for any of us- wish I had a coin operated husband some days! Yes Neil there is a "grinch", as I am about to catch up on your books (3 or 4 behind). On a sad day, know a woman in Canada loves you and Amanda bless you for your rendition of Hallelujah- I don't like anybody touching Master Cohen's music but even though it has been 3 yrs I was crying. Love you three. zoe (just breast feed on you t? nope, Neil you can't be easily embarrassed if you are married to Amanda- how? I admire how bluntly honest she is, women need that.)

    Oh I can’t believe they did that to you and the country we share. I think it was vital to teach Twitter. 2015 was the moment we needed that. Our president’s books will now be so valuable compared to before he got office. We’ll get through this but if there is a sky with stars and love above us we can all help each other not let this happen in another election. I’ll pledge more to give my Twitter and FB time and I’ll set up my own Patreon and teach every artist poet and writer I touch in my world how to build their voices louder than one crud candidate so we the people don’t lose our true vote to a Twitter drive for a hotelier. In 2015 I sat at FSG head’s house and he was a Kickstarter insider Top 10 Maker and he served me the drinks I told my partner he’d serve us if he wasn’t going to be helpful. Gin and tonic. My mother-in-law was English and grew up in India, she contracted malaria. He was insulting us by hinting suggestively we might be colonialist? Uhh. Why did I waste two years and the strength of Catalonia for their fight to vote? My uncle’s poetry and life could have made a difference. Most of the demands and shifting deadlines? Temper tantrums thrown by the managing editor to create stalls. I can’t begin to explain the pain it causes to look back on how much pressure it was to fulfill impossible deadlines.
