@@ThinkingFootballSB46 is so much worse for me because of this. I could accept the greatest Cinderella run in football history, especially since they only lost 35-38 against that same team a month earlier. Patriots just crumbled in 46 and had so many chances to put it away and just couldn't get it done.

Gronk getting hurt in the AFC Championship game and only being a decoy really stagnated the offense

I don't think that there are enough TEs of that caliber in the league to really run in 12 personnel like the patriots were able to. Gronk was the best tight end of his generation and Aaron hernandez wasn't too far behind him from a pure talent standpoint. They had lightning in a bottle with those 2, and they really were only able to get both of them because gronk missed his last year in college with back surgery and Aaron hernandez was a psychopath

I was at near every home game this season. I remember midway through the season when the excited cheers half transformed into laughter with Brady to Moss because it felt so inevitable. The defense was throwing everything and it didn't matter. Moss was the big picture catalyst here. He could take a nap on the field and safeties would still have been way off the LOS. It opened everything up for Welker and Faulk. If the D slipped and left Moss alone, Brady instantly ignored everyone else and forced the ball to Moss. On the occasion that they would force it to him in double/triple coverage just to remind the defense they had forgotten about him, Moss frequently won those, too.

This was the first season where I really realized Brady was really special. I knew he was great before this, one of the best in the league. But this was where the elite decision making that had made him a star when he first started playing was really combined with his incredible passing ability. Sure he was always accurate, and he'd hit tight windows and deep balls from time to time, but in this season it felt like he was money every time. Every time he dropped back you were expecting a first down, if not a TD. Brady's arm strength was incredible. Not necessarily his deep ball, which was good in it's own right, but he threw so freaking hard. Especially over the middle or on those quick outs and curls. I've never really seen anything like it, before or since. There's been guys who've clocked faster throws, but Brady's were so consistently that way, and it seemed like he never missed. And not just that they were always catchable, but they were catchable in the best way possible. If it's a tight window, it's going to be right in the spot where only the receiver can get it. If there's run after catch opportunity, the ball is going to lead the receiver into space. It was perfection.

This video is so good! Def gonna try to use some of these schemes simplified down for our pop warner team next season!
Last season we started in the basic I-Form and Pro-Form, but were able to expand after a few games. We got lucky and had a smart QB that can throw, so we were one of the only teams that was able to have success passing.
We started in the splitback shotgun for extra blockers, but ended up having more success spreading it out with an adapted air raid kinda deal.
Post_wheel, Seams, and Waggle were our best plays mixed with like some Jet Sweeps and started trying to mix in some motions.
Of course we also ran the ball about 40% of the time too w the basic run plays- Dive, Off-Tackle or really Power/Duo but no guard pulling, and then the HB Toss to the strong and weak side.
It took a few games to find our groove but once we did I felt like we were as good as any team in our division and won almost all our games the 2nd half of the season.
Def watched some of your videos during last season too!
What do u think the best playbook is for like 11u Youth Football? Maybe one for not having a QB and for having a QB that can throw...

The ability of the Giants to win with 4 changed the numbers game that other teams couldn't. They could pressure without sacrificing numbers in coverage.
This was actually he backdrop that allowed Spags to do Spafs things with Blitzes. It made extra rushers more effective, and made Brady's eye levels and processing have to constantly shift. It kept him and the receivers off time and out of rythym.
I think without the dominant front 4, the Blitzes may not have worked.
It is one of the few times that Bill was out coached in the playoffs. Even though the run was not very effective, averaging only 2.9 ypc, they should have used it more. Stuck with it. It would have allowed them to keep the pass rush honest and give Brady more looks at the defense.

"Insane", "Unstoppable", "Unguardable" etc are all grossly overused, but they are completely justified for Randy Moss. His combination of skills was and remains without compare. Extreme high-end ability in pretty much every possible area. He is, frankly, the most talented player at any position to ever play the game of football and easily yore most effective scoring weapon. Even a bit past his prime, pairing him with Brady was a true joke. Moss caught 23 TD while sitting out numerous 2nd halves, had a few called back for phantom OPI (Dallas, Philly games) that was more of a mercy call from officials. Hell, Randy even defeated the Giants Hail Mary coverage at the very end of the Super Bowl, the ball was just a tad late...the amount of coverage Moss received in the playoffs rivaled the OJ Simpson trial.

There is more to an offense than passing. WRs are the last piece to the puzzle that you add. A QBs best friend is an effective run game, not a great WR talent. And brady always had an effective run game.
He was without a doubt a game manager to start his career. There is no shame in it. It takes the vast majority of QBs a few years to figure it out, rodgers is another good example of this. The peytons mahomes and marinos of the nfl world are the outliers

But. There are some serious over blown areas and not coverage of some key areas that matter.
Out of the back field - Kevin Faulk was an absolute weapon and if the down field started getting choked - the options here were real.
Mike Vrabel was a TD and play threat.
And they were good with the running game and slants/screen plays.
Its a real shame that they didn't win that final game - goes to show how hard it is to win.

There were only 4 or 5 QBs in the history of the league with the football IQ to effectively run this offense the way the Pats did. Brady, Manning, Breese and Rodgers. Reading coverages, leverage & alignment before & AFTER the snap, using cadence & motion to expose the defense & understanding & dictating protection, & effective pocket movement to help your blockers is a lost art.

I would make the argument that colts also did these things from at least 04 onwards. It was stated here, but I feel Colts did more innovation here and pats just studied and improved it.
The colts did move away from this offense a bit more as they would move the ball too fast and the defense would get crushed being on the field so much.
The colts purposely pulled back their offense with more clock control. I do agree the pats had better weapons this year to make it work better in 07.

I kinda agree but also slot receiver position has evolved even after his retirement. Run blocking is a premium to play that position so you can't be 5'9" 185lbs to survive long term playing that position. Even Cooper Kupp whose the ideal size to play that position now is struggling to stay consistent the last two seasons with how the age/hits have been adding up for him.

  • @JM-pg8qv

In the 80s the Dolphins used a lot of shotgun on first and 2nd down and the Redskins used a bunch of 11 personnel.
The Patriots didn't do anything new and they never did RPO which is all over the NFL right now and the first truly successful implementation of that was by the Eagles and they used it to beat the Patriots in the Superbowl.
The Patriots are guilty of having the best players.. particularly in 2007.
They ultimately lost to a 9-7 team, Plexico Burress predicted that Patriots would score 14 points. Brady laughed at that but that was all they put up that day.

Mehn, i sincerely miss Brady and P.Manning's intelligent QB playmaking. QBs today are too mechanical, plus rules making things easy for them. All they wanna do is play like RBs. That's why no matter what happens down the line, Brady (will always be the Goat 🐐 for me) and P.Manning, the best QBs in NFL history. They both played the position the way it was supposed to be played.

New England was pretty one dimensional all they did was lob it to randy moss. Once randy moss started to slip during the playoffs and toward the end of the season that’s when you started to see cracks. While randy moss started off the season on fire he was not really able to sustain that same type of momentum later in the season. Even then though their were many games were New England struggled particularly the colts and ravens game were they had to win by the skin of their teeth the ravens in this case thanks to some controversial calls.
The patriots weren’t smart enough to draft a true running back to take some heat off the passing game. Lawrence Maroney was too inconsistent but Joseph Addai or Maurice Jones Drew would have been what they needed.
