Why did Paul want to go to Spain?

  • Starting from Pentecost and the Book of Acts we see how the gospel is reaching every place in the Table of Nations in Genesis 10, except Tarsis, which is Spain. Paul repeatedly says that he wants to reach Spain because he sees his mission as the rescue of the disinherited nations. Check this out!

Great stuff. Just wish the modern church would open its eyes and see the huge blind spot it has when it comes to the gospel. The gospel Paul was determined to preach throughout the world was almost completely opposite of the "personal salvation" gospel we preach today. As Heiser endlessly pointed out, Paul's gospel was all about announcing AND demonstrating the power of God's kingdom, which is always a direct threat to the rule of the gods of the nations. We today think evangelism is simply getting people to say a sinner's prayer, and then signing them up to a doctrinal statement.
The apostles were not murdered for preaching that kind of gospel.

    • @grbggaming6885

    • @TroyStevens430
      @TroyStevens430 2 месяца назад

@@grbggaming6885 Look at the book of Acts and do what they did... (1) Announce the good news of the kingdom of God (that God's rule & reign has begun & Satan and the fallen gods have been evicted), and (2) demonstrate the power of it through signs, wonders, healings, resurrections, deliverance. Doing that will surely result in persecution, but it will just as assuredly result in the conversion of the masses. I don't see that as the emphasis in our Laodicean churches.

After he had been seven times in chains, had been driven into exile, he had been stoned, and had preached in the east and in the west, he won the genuine glory for his faith, having taught righteousness to the whole world and having reached the farthest limits of the west (τερμα της δυσεως). 1 Clem 5:5-7.

Yes, Paul of Tarsus / Tarshish (deliberate association of names) went to Spain, as both 1Clement and the Muratorian fragment testify. Paul himself knew that the Gospel had covered the Romano-Hellenistic world of that age, and that the only free direction was west -- foreshadowing, as the Apostle to the Gentiles, the historical western path of the Gospel to great Gentile nations. After Spain, he returned, making arrangements through men like Titus and Timothy, for the ordaining of Evangelists, the successors to the Apostles, and setting out, in the so-called Pastoral Epistles, the constitution of New Testament churches etc.

During the Babel incident, God stepped back and handed us over to the sons of God, which in context and proper translation can only me the bene ha elohim or angels in our common parlance. They were the gods of the nations. It is they who've ruled behind human leaders and rulers ever since. Psalm 82:7 and the Divine Council passages show how God the Father essentially indicts these rebel elohim for their crimes and terrible stewardship of the earth and mankind. He tells them they will suffer death as does man. We remember these beings were created immortal, but after their indictment by God and his Divine Council, they would now suffer death at some future point in time. Deuteronomy 32 worldview plays very heavily into this and truly goes back to Enoch, the 7th from Adam and great grandfather to Noah. In his days the Watchers chose for themselves wives from among the daugthers of men and from this abominable union came the nephilim or giants. Huge narrative and goes all the way to the Cross. Dr. Heiser is my go to guy for all things supernatural in the bible.

The first time Paul was at Rome, it was more like he was in Witness protection. That sort of "house arrest". The Jews were trying to kill him. So he appealed to Caesar.
The second time he's in Rome, it's because Nero is blaming Christians for the fire, scape-goating them, so he makes an example of both Peter and Paul.

Church tradition has John Mark interpreting/transcribing Peter's address to the Equestrian class in Rome, which becomes the Gospel of Mark. After Peter and Paul are martyred in Rome under Nero, according to North African (esp. Coptic) tradition, Mark returns to his native North Africa (Libya) where he plants two churches before being martyred in Alexandria. (And Paul DID complete his trip to Hispania/Spain before returning to Rome, where he was executed.)

Note that at the time Paul wanted to go to Spain, it was not called Spain as the Germanic Spanish tribes had not invaded Spain yet. At the time paul planned to go to Spain, only 3 people's lived there, the Basques in upper north west and Hebrews (Jews) and Phoenicians. Cordoba, ascalona, Toledo and many other cities were Jewish cities built by Jews.
It's called the Iberian peninsula after the first Hebrew iber, or the Hebrew peninsula.
The entire Roman empire was 20% Jewish. Israel was largest center of Jews, about 7 million. Next was Asia minor or now called turkey of about 3 million Jews. Third was what we call Spain also about 3 million Jews. Paul wanted to bring the gospel to third largest Jewish area. God stopped it. Why ? Those Jews were reserved to stay Jews for the state of Israel in 1948 and today are about 30% of all Jews in Israel. Without them coming in 1950s to Israel, Israel would have fallen. As far as salvation, Jesus has the keys to the grave for these people. God's big picture is far bigger than the picture to most of us and even all of us at times.
