  • Checking out these REXQualis made Arduino Nano Clones that are SUPER cheap at about $14 for 3 boards WITH USB cables and fully assembled and well packed compared to the usual stuff you get in a zip lock bag. NOT SPONSERED BY THEM, found it on Amazon and purchased myself. So are these worth it? Do they work as expected? Let's find out!
Great deal on REXQualis 3 set Nano: amzn.to/2YNt9GI
Safe CH340/341 drivers from manufacturer: www.wch.cn/down...

You appear to be the only person on the internet pointing out that for clones the old bootloader must be used, was surprised that this was so hard to get working, thanks

You got me worried now, how do we check them for viruses?

did exactly what you advised -result:
    Using Port : COM3
    Using Programmer : arduino
    Overriding Baud Rate : 57600
avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding
avrdude: stk500_getsync() attempt 1 of 10: not in sync: resp=0x96 etc etc
Have tried now 5 different tutorials all fail with all 3 clones.
    time to dump them.

Have you checked all the usual:
      1) Make sure you have the CH340 driver installed if they are not genuine Arduino's.
      2) You most likely have to select Processor: ATMEGA328 OLD BOOTLOADER, you can try it with both but every clone I've ever used had the old bootloader on it.
      3) Port COM3 could be right for you but on all the computers I have Com3 is always the default and never the correct choice for me. You can check when you plug the Nano in and then look in Arduino IDE Port setting note how many com ports are listed, unplug the Nano and check again one should disappear that's the one you want to select when you reconnect. If nothing shows up or changes try different USB cable, check CH340 driver is installed.
There are plenty of bad clones out there for sure, I have never had issues with this particular brand but I haven't bought them in quite a while but I see they are no longer $14 a set now in 2022...

      Thank you for yr help!
      1) I had the CH341SER.INF downloaded
      2) I did use the OLD BOOTLOADER since all tut's suggested same, however your suggestion to try the other as well WAS THE SOLUTION!
      it works now- Thanks again!

Isn't this way too well packed for a clone 😅
The ones I get comes in anti static bags

Yes that's why I like them! I've purchased multiple sets and have never had any issues with them this company seems to be more legit, using genuine chips and probably a little better QC than the true dirt cheap ones you find on BangGood or Aliexpress that come in just a baggie, those have always been hit or miss for me.

I'm trying to use such a new nano clone. Blink works perfectly, but if I try a more complicated sketch (eg OV7070 camera), it works after uploading the sketch, but if I unplug and replug the USB, on the output it sends garbage. If I reupload the skech, it works again, but if i unplug the usb and plug it back, its sends again garbage to the serial port. With an old nano board (which can programmed only with the "old bootloader" works perfectly. I bought 10 such new boards,, all ause this problem. Have anyone this kind of issue?

Buyer beware: Most of these clones have a MINI USB female connector and NOT the more common USB micro connector, now almost universally used together with the better USB C connector. The included blue USB cable is too short for normal connection to your PC and so you need an extra cable with an obsolete USB connector.

    • @bullygram

Exactly, mini usb ruled before smartphone came onto the market, where these arduino nano were released at the same time. I still save few mini usb cables.

all Arduino-compatible boards contribute to the growth and accessibility of the Arduino platform, and the term "clone" may not accurately reflect the collaborative and inclusive nature of the Arduino community. Instead, it might be more appropriate to refer to these boards simply as Arduino-compatible or Arduino-derived boards.

Just Google it you can find sites to download the driver that’s not going to be from China I just did it and it works all I did was Google this driver that he’s talking about and made sure it was a reputable site

    • @DesignBuildDestroy

What exactly is the problem you are having? As Jason said it is most likely the drivers Genuine Arduino's use a different driver to communicate. Every clone I've ever used of various model Arduino boards has used a CH340 and it needs to be installed separately it's not included with Arduino IDE.

Thats true in a way, I bought a couple of clones last year and they still work fine, they were in fact so good and cheap I bought twice again, and they are still powering other projects. V happy so far, they have more than earned their keep. Now I'm running out of USB plugs.
