Brilliant! When I was young we played this with our Dackel (Wiener Dog) all the time. At home, in the woods, in the park, etc. He found everyone of us, every single time. He passed away at the age of 112 dog years (16 human years).

Hide and seek is a great way to teach their names and recall skills. I did this with my dog and he was amazingly fast learning his name and had an excellent recall.
Not only do they have 50 times more smell resceptors than we do but roughly 60% (if I remember correctly) their brain is devoted to smell. The slits down the side of a dogs nose allow them to blow out the tasted air so it doesn't interfere with the fresh scent coming in! They also have a sensory pit in the roof of the mouth that they can "flick" a sample of a licked surface into for further information. All rather cool stuff

My cat will just wander from room to room, then he'll stand at the bottom of the stairs, which is open all the way up and has a nice echo. He'll start with the pitiful "mew", and progress until he gets the full volume, plaintive, "mai-ouwerrr!", over and over until I appear. Then, he just twitches his tail like, "What took you so long?", and wanders off. Crazy cat...😻😽

Aww. We used to play this game with my childhood dog when I would come back from university. My parents would go in the house first and let the dog outside and then I would run around and find a good hiding spot. Good memories.
