I've played this video about 100 times and am STILL watching in AWE. The respect shown to Country Music's "Greatest Living Country Singer" is unmatchable. It just doesn't matter how many times I watch this, the hair on my arms and neck still stands tall when the light comes pouring through those doors and Jones himself comes walking in. I just don't have words for how this song makes me feel! This is REAL Country Music!!! Bravo Mr. Beddingfield! George Jones= LEGEND
2011 was one of the best years of my life. 17 years old, a in high school and I’d been a Jones fan since birth. You might say I inherited it from pappy through genetics, dad grew up in the 70’s on Led Zeppelin, BTO and Steve Miller but I just couldn’t stand what was on the radio in my formative days so I played Jones, Acuff, Buck Owens, Marty Robbins, Boxcar Willie and the rest of the old timey gang in spite of being ridiculed and singled out as strange and uncool, and I guess I was and am an old man trapped in a young, but quickly aging, body. I lost my Pap and George both in 2013, and their funerals (I watched the Possum’s funeral and memorial service live on the Opry’s website) were the only two times I’ve cried in my adult life. I was reduced to a sobbing, runny nosed mess…especially after hearing Vince Gill’s voice crack up and seeing him lose composure as well.
My wife and I saw him last night. Amazing. I got to thinking. He is 81 and he was still doing his best to sing it all out. No teleprompter, no lip syncing....The character of this man speaks for itself. It is all about the music.....the legend lives on....
i went and seen ol George in concert in Durham, North Carolina 2 nights ago and this was played right before he walked on stage... gotta respect a man thats been playing music all his life and still to this day is taking tours. i gotta say i love George Jones
We just saw George Jones tonight 3/23/13 at Evansville, In. He said he had a few health issues but he gave it his all! It brought a tear to my eye seeing him like this, but it's past time he retired and enjoyed the last years of his life without being on a bus or on a stage! God Bless George Jones.
Very blessed to get to see George over his carrer. I had went to 2 shows where, he did not show! Never gave up on him. George changed my life. There will NEVER be another to FILL HIS SHOES. RIP GEORGEJONES - I♥ you.
I went to George's last concert he was able to preform I had never really got into him until I saw him personally and after hearing this song and seeing Mr. Jones in his condition and still singing the way he was made me tear up Mr. Jones was an incredibly talented individual and I will never seeing him up close I felt as if that last performance was him saying goodbye it was extremely heart touching.
I CANT GET ENOUGH OF THIS SONG AND GEORGE JONES WAS MY GRANDPAS FAVORITE SINGER HE WAS A ALL TIME COUNTRY MUSIC FAN I GET GOOSEBUMPS EVERY TIME I LISTEN TO THIS SONG AND GEORGE JONES SING BUT I ALSO GOTTA SAY THIS SONG FITS JUST PERFECT WITH GEORGE JONES, HANK, WAYLON, JOHNNY IM 27 YRS OLD AND ILL NEVER GET ENOUGH OF THAT OLD COUNTRY
Both KLUNKET and Gregory Moore is right I have played this over a 100 times myself. This is a real Country. God Bless George Jones heard he is not doing well at all .Since I was a little girl i have been listing to Country music and have always love George Jones in other word I have been listing to him for 39 years now . I am so glad that Eric Lee Beddingflied made this song about George Jones. Wish I could hear this one on the radio too. But I do get to see it on GAC .
This young artist and The Possum, is a mixture of Country Music Genius. This is REAL Country Music. Not that mix of beat, banging and slamming on the shitpot stuff.. George Jones and Eric Beddingfield, Now here is a Number 1 Hit !
Some bastard thought it would be a good idea to sneak in to my house and start chopping onions. Damn those onions. George was, is, and always will be the best ever.
I get the same feeling everytime i watch this video. This is what country music should be & the stuff we got these days is a disgrace to George, Hank,Merle, & Conway! Eric gets all my respect for telling everbody to keep it real country!!!!!
Someone said george jones told his wife after the last show he did he'd never do another one. But told her I gave them a damn good show. All these new singers you can't tell them apart. But if you know country you know George's voice
GEORGE JONES IS AND WILL FOREVER BE THE GREATEST THERE EVER WAS HE COULD MAKE YOU HAPPY OR RIP YOUR HEART OUT WITH HIS SONGS AND HIS VOICE ONCE YOU HEAR IT YOU WILL NEVER FORGET IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Eric Lee for this great song and tribute to one of biggest influences on a lot of people. That voice is embedded in our minds and has brought joy and pain because George Jones was a real man.
We are running out of the old time country greats. We still have Meryl haggard, willy Nelson, Jerry lee Lewis, dolly Parton, Kenny Rodgers and roy clark. Those six are the only ones I can think of that I know are alive. George jones is one of the greats in he will be forever missed and he really did stop loving her today, and nobody ever will fill his shoes. Good bye George, I hope your signing for the lord now. RIP
This is a GREAT song, I cannot even describe the feeling I got when ol' Jones started to walk into that church. The Gospel According to Jones?? DAMN STRAIGHT!!
i might be only 15 but through my few years george jones has always been on every playlist i have no matter what he is a legend and he didnt just make country music history he IS country music history. country lost an icon. r.i.p. george Jones. you may be gone but you will always be with us through our radios nationwide
This song is so much more sadder now that he's gone Long live the possum and his music! They're singing in heaven now Says the gospel according to jones :)
I absolutely love this song. George Jones is one of my top all time favorites. It almost makes me cry to see all the old pics. Thank you Eric Beddingfield for this wonderful tribute to a great country music Icon.
Yea I have been a fan since I was a kid listening with my dad! Merle Haggard was asked one time who his favorite Country Music singer was and he said"besides George Jones" and I thought what respect that is! I know he's my favorite!
this song is the greatest I didn't know bout this song till me and my husband went to see the ole possum himself yesterday 3/22/13 on one of his final shows this year I tell ya it was a real honor to see him yes he was sick and had to rest but he did his best to put on a great show He never lip synced it goes to show how some certain new singers should act like No syncing but using all they got a voice
This is SUCH a special song and video!! How country radio passed it up i dont know. I heard it once on the radio and just like Jamey Johnsons High Cost Of Living........Gospel According To Jones......hit my heart and soul immediately! I said this guy is SPECIAL!!
I'm still having a hard time believing he's gone. I never got to meet him in person, but it feels like I've lost an old friend. Glad you got to see him one last time.
I think that whoever decided to add the old-fashioned piano and organ in here was a genius. It reminded me of being in an old church on Sunday morning, or turning on the TV to Oral Roberts.
Missing ole George he was a big part of y I started singing that and my favorite memory is my grandpa on the back porch drinking old Milwaukee and blasting George jones :)
Love what they did in this vid with old George putting his hand on eric shoulder , see when your wasted down & out ? .. so was George & old George will always have your back , he knew what it was like & he had all that money & fame too & it didn't help really , old george is gone , but he's here in spirit for those who live "The gospel of Jones" ..........think maybe that's why god put him & others here really , to go through pain to help others through your experiences , old george saved lives with his music
Why is this not played on the radio? a modern country singer paying his respect to a true country star- is that not as good as an autotuned version of dirt road anthem?
Cody Imoehl Because ( my opinion) this is a tribute to a traditional country singer, and radio just doesn't play traditional country music. They've obviously forgotten what Mr. Monroe once said: " Don't get above your raising " . Words to live by.
Eric is a great friend and ENTERTAINER....This video and song should have been a NUMBER 1 Hit....He is keeping it Country....I give you my word....he is going to be a big star....he already is...to me and many others....SICK 'UM ELB...Randy Frazier
I remember sitting my grandmaw's living room and her listening to Jones all night long I would actually fall asleep listening to the possum rip george we will all see you again someday.
100% CORRECT! I took my father to see his last month in Knoxville. He had been wanting to see him his whole life and never had the chance. We had a great time. 3 weeks later we found out it was the last time anyone ever seen him play live.

Thank you so much Eric Beddingfield, George Jones is the greatest Country Singer right beside Johnny Cash and a few others. You done a great job with this song. Gives me chill bumps !!!
This is what country music should be
Man you got to love the fact George Jones walked in and sang
That final shot of George walking into the light..... gets me every time... 😢😢❤🏴
He went home that day
He spoke to an angel in the hospital that day.
I think the reason they don't play this on the radio is because it's real country music
Amen!
I agree. I love the video and the music! Amen to this.
Ya already know ✌️
Seeing George walk out that church into the bright light gave me chills. RIP Possum, heaven has another great.
I've played this video about 100 times and am STILL watching in AWE. The respect shown to Country Music's "Greatest Living Country Singer" is unmatchable. Nothing less than he deserves.

How does this not have over a million views?
The world of music just lost an icon, there is now a hole that can never be filled. Rest in peace, George Jones. You will be missed! :(
Check out " Still Playin' Possum " by Joe Nichols and Randy Travis.
I especially love the little touches, like the old-time piano and organ, that lend the feeling of being in a church.

A great tribute to one of the greatest country music singers ever.

The voice is raspy and weak, but it's classic Possum, at any rate.
Man, been listening to this song, on and off, for a while now. Can't believe this song, or Eric, wasn't on the radio more. Great stuff!

I have tears in my eyes, and I can't utter a word.
GOLD!!!
R.I.P possum I will say beyond doubt and i'm sure some will agree if they catch the irony. George looked and sounded better at 81 than he did in 81
mike richardson sober.pratice make perfect
Beautiful pedal steel in this song. It’s really a lost art and I’m so happy it’s making a (niche) comeback.
I think that whoever decided to add the old-fashioned piano and organ in here was a genius. It reminded me of being in an old church on Sunday morning, or turning on the TV to Oral Roberts.
This has been George's passion all of his life. It will live in him forever. I Love you George!
Missing ole George he was a big part of y I started singing that and my favorite memory is my grandpa on the back porch drinking old Milwaukee and blasting George jones :)
I watch this video almost every day!!!
Love what they did in this vid with old George putting his hand on eric shoulder , see when your wasted down & out ? .. so was George & old George will always have your back , he knew what it was like & he had all that money & fame too & it didn't help really , old george is gone , but he's here in spirit for those who live "The gospel of Jones" ..........think maybe that's why god put him & others here really , to go through pain to help others through your experiences , old george saved lives with his music
this video makes the possum look like an angel.... so long mr jones, your music will live on.
Don't know if anyone else caught it. The last verse had a lot of old-time piano and organ, like you'd hear in a church in the 50s and 60s.
If you aren't familiar with George Jones, find a greatest hits compilation...if you have a soul, he'll tell it a million stories...
💘 this 2022
Near majestical and full of grace the way Jones enters the church.
Jones will definitely be singing in Heaven.. He has an angels voice...
They don't get any better than the "Possum". Awesome tribute Eric!
RIP George Jones....You were and inspiration to so many.....
Why is this not played on the radio? a modern country singer paying his respect to a true country star- is that not as good as an autotuned version of dirt road anthem?

How sad to see him age so at the end miss you king legend George Jones 🙏🙏
Love the old-time piano and organ. Got that old-time gospel feel.
Wow! How fortunate you were to see him live! RIP George...he's singin' with Tammy up there; I just know it!!!!
I remember sitting my grandmaw's living room and her listening to Jones all night long I would actually fall asleep listening to the possum rip george we will all see you again someday.
Love this one, good to get back to an old country tune. O course who doesn't love George great to see him and the classics honored.
I have listened to this song 100 times, and I love it! I get chills everytime George opens the church doors.
Damn..if this won't make you want to drink nothing will. Miss me some George Jones. The greatest county singer ever.
i like this song im a big fan of anything of King George
100% CORRECT! I took my father to see his last month in Knoxville. He had been wanting to see him his whole life and never had the chance. We had a great time. 3 weeks later we found out it was the last time anyone ever seen him play live.
He Stopped Loving Her Today~Rip George~ Great song, a fitting tribute to the man.
RIP George Jones... In my book this song is a great tribute to him.
He had a bumpy road at times in his life. It's not what you did in your past, it's what you learned from it. I think George, like many others learned and moved on. So for those who'd rather remember him for those moments, you are missing out on so much more of who George Jones is!
Finally somebody new sings a meaningful heartfelt song
And now Deacon George joins the choir.
Jeff Tappan I think he can be put up there with "Saint Hank and Saint Lefty". He wouldn't admit it but he was just as good as his childhood idols and I think even better. You can't get any better than Mr. George Jones!
That was damned impressive! Thank you! A great tribute beautifully performed❤
It's hard to make it to the back pew
When you do what I do all night
If the church house wasn't so far from this bar
Maybe I'd try
But as it goes I am no show
Sitting here singing these songs
Spreading the message from the gospel according to Jones
Step right on up ... Take the grand tour
He stopped loving her today
Tennessee Whiskey and white lightning
Are just a few of the choices I've made
It's a real good year for the roses
But remember the race is still on
And that's just a few of the chapters from the gospel
According To Jones
I'm just one of the many... and there's plenty
Trying to fill their shoes
I ain't no preacher just a believer in the cold hard truths
My altars this stage... my congregation
Is full of lost souls
And we hold us a saturday night service
From the gospel according to jones
Step right on up ... Take the grand tour
He stopped loving her today
Tennessee Whiskey and white lightning
Are just a few of the choices I've made
It's a real good year for the roses
But remember the race is still on
And that's just a few of the chapters from the gospel
According To Jones
Saint Hank, Saint Lefty and Brother Waylon
They've all done passed on
But I know they're singing up in heaven
Says the gospel according to Jones
Were all gonna sing up in heaven says the gospel according to Jones
Thank you so much Eric Beddingfield, George Jones is the greatest Country Singer right beside Johnny Cash and a few others. You done a great job with this song. Gives me chill bumps !!!
