Thanks so much for sharing Matt. We've really enjoyed working on this series. Such inspirational guys. It's hard to watch this first video without a smile a on my face :)
Such a talent. Had no idea people still used dark rooms! Last time I was in one was in college back in the early 90's. Great shots! So true about the emotion of black and white. Very cool and inspiring. 😊
Thanks for watching. We love Ray he's such a talented yet humble man. We're seeing more darkrooms reopen so if you fancy giving it another try have a look at the locator tool on ilfordphoto.com to find a community one near you:)
@@Ilfordphoto yes. About 5 months in so far. I started with a Nikon F3 and am now getting a Leica M3. Ilford Delta 100 and Tri X 400 are my go to film stock. I hope both of you keep making more films. This film was very inspirational and also respectful towards the subject and the story.
I have a lot of memories growing up in San Jose I’m the same neighborhood as Ray, at Sierramont Middle and Independence high. Mike Griffin’s ramp! A guy that made everything look so effortless and so easy going. I was skating at the same time, but could only dream of the talent Ray had. An inspiring guy and happy to see he is still following his passions. Oh and I remember we both have the same birthday, Oct 5. Soon we’ll be 50! Funny the things we remember.😁✌️
Fishtown BikesnBeans Ray has got to be the sweetest guy in skateboarding! Thanks for watching! Check out the Joe Brook and Jason Lee films from this series too if you haven’t already :)
Thank you for this wonderful short film. Skateboard magazines were my reason to start with photography 20 years ago. Still shooting film a lot. Ray Barbee & Ilford 🖤
Grew up in the backyard ramp era and pushed hard into street right around when Ray was just coming up. Always had a love for photography which carries this day. Honestly, I hadn't heard his name in decades, and it's so great to see in this context. Looks and sounds like he did really good for himself. Elated. Nice shot of Lance, btw. Great job on the documentary too.
Thank you so much! Exploredinary is from Texas so for this series we wanted to incorporate music from Texas and we brought our friend Richard Carpenter on board for this film. Ray is also an extremely talented musician so we filmed him jamming in the studio and incorporated that in. The ending track is a Ray Barbee remix of Richard Carpenter's song which plays in the intro.
This really touches a part of me as I came up in the early 80's and 90's skateboarding era, and this time was also my early steps into photography beginning with shooting friends downtown in the Village (NYC) and also in BMX (Freestyle and Racing). Those were great days and I'm glad to see that there have been so many sk8rs who were bitten by the film bug. Also, Ray's film style reminds me very much of Gordon Parks and Roy DeCarava during the Harlem renaissance period, excellent imagery.
Thank yo so much for taking the time to leave such heartfelt feedback. It had been amazing to hear how many people Ray's video has resonated with. Have you watched the rest of the series too?
I am 40 years old I miss the simplicity of life. Honestly and ironically I miss the days without social medias even if I see advantags and also the disadvantages. Maybe I just got nostalgic after this video lol
This is magic Ray, beautiful words and documentary. So nice to feel the passion and love here thank you Ilford also for keeping these dreams alive with incredible film.
Glad you enjoyed it. We had such a great time working with Ray and Exploredinary on this they were all such passionate, talented people whi genuinely enjoy what they do, and I think that comes across.
Great work. Hard to capture all that Ray has in him, this does justice to a inspirational person that al know him. Looking forward to more of these. Thanks for this.
This is an outstanding piece 10 out of 10. I don't know what else to say but thanks for this video I like how it merged film with skating with music. It's perfect. Respect
Thanks Jahan. We are glad you like. You don't have long to wait as the next video in this series is released next Thursday featuring Thrasher photographer Joe Brook!
