  • Mario Hezonja relaxed in his modest Manhattan apartment. The lights were dim and soft instrumental hip-hop was playing through his sound system: exactly what he needed to unwind after partying with his teammates well into the early morning. Reclined on his modern, minimalist sofa, he let the sounds of the music wash over him, soothing him to a point where he would be able to take the short trip to his bedroom and fall right to sleep.
At some point, the relaxing dimness of his surroundings lulled him into a kind of semi-sleep. The edges of his dreams intermingled with the fragments of reality being filtered through his senses. A pleasantly soft, but slightly heavy weight was pressing on top of him, creating a feeling of comfort and safety. It pulsated slowly like the tides of a vast ocean. Mario had felt this sensation twice before, and both times it had resulted in the composition of poetry that he hadn't known himself to be capable of.
When he opened his eyes again, thinking that he might go to bed, he noticed a sort of reddish haze floating above him. It undulated in the still air of his apartment, and the speed of its undulations matched the sensation that was enveloping his body. He cleared his eyes, thinking that he was still seeing visions of his dreams in his half-asleep state. But when he was done rubbing his eyes, the mist near his ceiling was still there.
"Hello, Mario," spoke a light, feminine voice that Mario noted with confusion was speaking in Croatian.
"Hello," Mario replied, also in Croatian, feeling foolish that he was replying out loud to a voice that was obviously the product of his sleep-deprived mind. "Who are you?"
"We have met before," the voice answered. "It was I who inspired you to write those poetic works after you played so well in your recent games."
Mario furrowed his eyebrows. He had definitely felt at the time that his hand had been guided to write those poems, but to have confirmation of that fact was somewhat unsettling. He was not normally a superstitious person, so this kind of pseudo-religious experience was something that his rational mind wanted very much to reject. Again, he asked, "But who are you really?"
"I am Croatia," the mysterious voice replied, and although the cloudlike floating mist above him was still there, the voice seemed to come from everywhere at once. "I am her people, I am her land, I am her culture."
Upon hearing this, Mario thought back to his good games from the past week. During each of them, he had felt a presence with him as he scored points and passed to teammates, but he had dismissed is as just the natural sportsman's high of playing well in front of a large crowd. He didn't know what to say. "Thank you," he finally whispered.
"You don't need to thank me," the essence of Croatia said. "The ability to play well was within you the entire time. I had no hand in unlocking that ability. I only wished to be present alongside you when that ability was finally realized."
"Within me..." Mario murmured. There was something comforting in the fact that his strong play was his and his alone, but he also felt frustrated at his own inability to have played better earlier in his career.
"Do not worry about that, Mario," the ethereal voice answered with a light laugh, somehow reading Mario's thoughts directly. "The circumstances of your failure were outside your control. What matters is that, when those circumstances finally tilted in your favor, you were ready to seize the opportunity."
Mario was feeling an overwhelming, and confusing, mixture of emotions. He couldn't come up with a response as he felt tears form in his eyes.
The feminine voice continued speaking. "You have made your homeland proud, Mario. The Croat people watch your success with great joy. And now...I will rejoin you, for your soul and the soul of Croatia are destined to be as one." Suddenly, the red-tinted haze coalesced into a ball and sped towards Mario's chest. He instinctively braced himself against the couch as the ball of pure energy entered him.
Warmth spread through his limbs, and, despite the strangeness of what had just transpired, he felt a pervasive sense of calmness overtake him. It was there that he fell asleep, and his dreams were not of the anxieties of his day-to-day life, but of the grand landscapes and the loving people of his home. Croatia.

Thank you DTB, descprition was Epic, I can kind of feel that ur also a fan of Mario. It saddens me that I had to wait so long for the world to see what I have known for years, ever since the kid from the most beautiful city in the world was dunking on people in Barcelona.

Why does this guy always wait until the end of the season to play well? He did it last year too.

    • @MarioCindric
      @MarioCindric 5 лет назад +6

Because that's the time when he get a chance. Coaches are trying to work with black players thrue season because this is black leauge, only one in the world, and when they fail or have no other option they see white kid from Europe and say ok let's see what he can do, we already suck. You have teams and coaches who doesn't give fuck about skin color of players like Spurs, Celtics, Nuggets, Mavaricks, Heat, Warriors, Clippers, Pacers,Jazz but most of the leauge are racist especially to a forign white players. Don't ask me why is like that, I also don't get it.

@@MarioCindric that's not true. He got 20 minutes a game early in the season and just sucked. Your comment about race doesn't make any sense because the Magic's best player is Vucevic, the same team that drafted and didn't re-sign Hezonja. You're just making excuses for him. It's good that he's playing better now, but he has to have a full season where he plays well, not just the final 10-20 games.

Hezonja sucked in Orlando and sucked in Knicks so far. Few good games at this point of the season don’t mean shit. Skin colour didn’t prevent Vucevic and Fournier to become leaders for a Playoff team, so stop with the excuses.

      @@RaptorsReport
Vučević is best player at Magic now, when Hezonja was in Orlando he wasn't. Frank Vogel almost ruined every Euro player there, Fournier and Vučević survived because they were players with several NBA seasons, even Vučević struggled under that idiot Vogel. Hezonja was a kid when he came to Orlando and needed to be develop, Frank didn't do shit about that. Scott Skiles drafted Hezonja and wanted to develop him, but he was fired. Vogel just leaned on Elfrid Payton, Gordon, Simmons and other black players who played their own privete games. Well when Hezonja finally got chance he showed that he can play, and when Vogel was fired guess who become Magic's best players - Fournier and Vučević and they become play-off team but they reset the role of players. In Knicks he didn't sucked it was part of Fitzdale proces where he sad that every player will get chance. He did eveything what coach asked of him, every reporter in NY sad that, not me, even when he was DNP player he accepted that as part of deal and not complaining. They leaned on different players every couple games so that they can see what they have and what they can do, they decided to have transition season (I'm not fan of that but it was their call). They changed starting 5 most in the leauge. In games he played he had games with minor role and games with bigger role, it was all coach decision.Sometimes he would be starter with just 10min sometimes with 30 min, sometimes he would be bench player with 10min, sometimes with 25min. And in last couple games he had the chance to run the show. And he did well for most of those games, nobody can't play perfect. Hezonja would never be the player who is gonna be NBA super star and run his team, but he can be decent starter with 15+ pts. So he is avg. 20 min and 10 pts this season in rhytm that I explained, that's good right? Lot of NBA players avg. less in much more min and much bigger roles, right. And I'll give you example of straight racisam, Minnesota. Rubio wasn't good for them well he is just fine in Utah, Bjelica wasn't good for them he's just fine in Sacramento, Šarić isn't good for them but he was fine for Philly and under new coach he is good again. But guess who was good all the time there Wiggins and Teauge and of course they are not play off team. Like I sad it's not every team and coach, but most of them are. And if you think that white Euro players have same treatment in NBA bro you are delusional. It's like to sad that cops in USA treat black drivers same as white. We all know that's not true. Like I sad don't ask me why is like that, but it is what is.

DTB musst have a Croatian Soul or is a poet in general and produces such lovely tales and poems with blanks where he could insert every other country and player name.
Whatever, the reading in combination with this video and years of suffering by waiting Mario to unleash his potential was a quiet emotional thing.
Thanks DTB, and go on Mario!

Yes, but Mario and Croatia were supposedly speaking to each other in Croatian; not English.
