"Why compare the 2!?" Because Hip hop has always been competitive and boastful! Even for the fans, its like a sport and your favorite artist is the home team. Kendrick indulged in the competitive nature also. You might not participate in the act of comparing rappers but its not something thats far fetched or as you say "out there", whether their styles are similar or not. The guy has a preference and it wasn't articulated in a hateful way. Take it as a compliment towards Kendrick Lamar, hes actually acknowledging him as the current #1 rapper in Hip hop. Thats where the comparison comes into play IMO.

I can name more than 5 southern rap artists with far better discoragraphy than Ludacris: UGK (Bun B and Pimp C), Scarface, T.I., Trae the Truth, Juicy J, and Big KRIT. All these guys write songs for the streets, not the radio and consistently deliver every time. Ludacris is more of a pop rapper. No Ludacris isn't the King of the South by a long shot.
