I'm a 53-year old man who cannot watch the video for this song or even hear the song without crying
I understand this. Nov 2021 will be two years since I lost someone I loved, he completed suicide. I struggle with this a lot, but it’s all in the healing. I smile more then I cry now.
Disturbed has become a beacon to the world brining awareness to things like addiction and depression. Many of their songs now are meant to bring out emotions. At their concert roughly 4 years ago, with this song they talked about friends and family that they lost to things like addiction and suicide, like Chester from Linkin Park, and Chris Cornell and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. I love Disturbed and have some they appeared, but their old stuff doesn't hold a candle to the current brand they are displaying. I can't hear this song without crying...

David Draiman wrote the lyrics after he took his young son to see the movie “Coco”. Absolutely beautiful ballad! I wondered about that. The first time I head the song, I thought it had serious "Coco" vibes. Even the guitar. Makes complete sense.
That sparked it, along with the deaths of Chris Cornell, Chester Bennington, and a couple other close friends from the industry.
You got it all. While David was indeed inspired by the movie Coco, he also has dedicated this song and a couple others to lost friends. To quote him from the tour:
“I miss Chester. I miss Chris. I miss Scott.”
Chester being Chester Bennington from Linkin Park, Chris Cornel of Soundgarden, and Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots. The other song dedicated to them is "A Reason to Fight".
As others have pointed out, there are also other artists honored in the photos during the video, and you named most of them.
It’s also to honor the memory of Bryan Wengren-Mike’s (the drummer) brother. He OD’d in 2016.
The first time I heard this song was June of 2020 when my brother died. Not of Covid but because of Covid, he died all alone because we were not allowed to be with him until the last minutes of his life when he didn't even know we were there after 2 weeks all alone other than phone and computer. Makes me cry every time I hear it! It's so beautiful and I love David's voice!
I feel for you, I have a similar story. My grandmother was stuck in a hospital alone and we were not allowed to see her. Eventually, she just gave up and died alone. I still feel the anger that I wasn't able to say goodbye under threat of arrest.
He was trained to be a cantor in the Jewish faith. The trainer is very intense. He is so talented. I have read this information on other sites. If you really want to cry then watch the official video.
The music video is extremely touching, yes. But watching those people hold up the little Metallica onsie in this totally broke me.

You looked away when they had video footage of The Rev from Avenged Sevenfold also as they are all artists they were close to. This song gets me every time
Seeing Dimebag Darrel from Pantera broke heart. Almost forgot. God love him.
The picture of the onesie was for real for a couple who had either had a stillborn or late miscarriage. The pictures of the band’s early days and the videos of their children were reminders that not all memories are bad.
The song is for all the loss of singers and such. The scene of the the family holding the onsie, David brought them up on stage. They lost their son Dominic.

This song reminds me of my father who I lost in 2000 a few months before my daughter was born, even though he's gone I've been telling her stories of him during my childhood. I read in an article that the inspiration for this song was actually David sitting watching 'Coco' with his son & it made him think of ones that people have lost so it relates to pretty much everyone.
Vinnie Paul Abbott was the phenomenal drummer for Pantera and HELLYEAH. Listening to the awesome music of Pantera and HELLYEAH and other great bands who have lost their brethren in metal helps me keep their memories alive.
i suggested this song to my sister when my nephew her son died from his heart giving out...i knew he liked disturbed and she had it played at his funeral

Great reaction! You had your eyes closed when he hugged the lady that lost the baby!!! The video behind them is all their friends who passed. David talks about the grief he feels from losing Chester and others. The official video is great too for different reasons it’s very Coco-ish with the making of masks representing their loved ones. Disturbed is one of my favorites… for so many reasons.

I also want this played at my funeral too, l think his training and he also worked at health service. He uses his music and Disturbed to heal people. There is video of him stopping a fight at a concert of theirs and help a young girl there are videos. I also when someone has dementia, mental health and young people this is for all ages. I'm in 60s l enjoy their music too

It touches that one area in us all that unites us, our humanity. One loss was a friend who I met through a group on the net. I wrote her a holiday greeting and it's gone unanswered. She passed between Christmas and New Year of COVID. Thank you, David and Disturbed for expressing in music what many of us find hard to articulate. "Souls who are not remembered cannot survive." Have yourself a cry (I am at this moment) for those we've lost, and watch over time how the sadness is replaced by the warm touch of wonderful memories.
So many people opine or speculate DD had "classical training". I have heard him interviewed and never did he say so. He was on track to be a Cantor but rebelled and got kicked out of his orthodox school and disowned by his grandfather due to the musical path he chose.

David trained as a Cantor in his youth, then latter with Melissa Cross to perfect his "dirty" grit and growl without hurting his voice.
You're wrong, they invited people with tickets to submit photos of people who have passed. So those left behind could see them on a big screen. Not a dry eye in the house .😢

Many of the photos are of other band members from groups they have toured with that have died for various reasons and the drummer's brother did commit suicide. You do need to react to another song they perform at every concert that is fighting drug abuse, depression and suicide called "A Reason to Fight" the official video. It is very touching and meaningful. Please react to this one also.
