    A stunning achievement and congratulations to the L & H Trust. Please support the Tunnel Vision project so that the restored canal and green ribbon can pass under the railway and connect this beautiful waterway.

    Next thing will be building all around the new bypass, so in another 10 years another bypass will be needed, and so the endless concreting over of England’s green and pleasant land continues. How very green .

      @skf957 3 года назад +8

      Yep, the building lobby along with the road haulage lobby are, I believe, responsible in large part for the ruination of this small island.

      @LittleKitty22 3 года назад +11

      Yup, I remember 20 years ago when the M6 toll got built, we were all shocked because it went bang on in the middle of the green belt - and now? All around the new bypass lots of houses are being built, Streethay has already been built up with a bunch of new houses - the infrastructure already cannot cope with so many more people, but who cares when more houses mean more council tax!

    • @peter_cuthbert

      @@LittleKitty22 Could the problem be too many folk having too many kids and thus over expanding the population? Cut the population and the expansion of houses and roads will stop and we might save a bit of wildlife. Anyway, well done to the restoration team for exploiting the opportunity to get the cut dug.

    • @LittleKitty22
      @LittleKitty22 3 года назад

      @@peter_cuthbert I don't think that's much of a problem in Lichfield as it's mainly old folks living here. They buy retirement homes in Lichfield because they can afford it. Everywhere you look - retirement homes. The only people having too many kids are the folks that need them as a meal ticket but that's far worse in cities like Birmingham or Wolverhampton. And that's something that can only be dealt with by not encouraging single parenthood through financial incitements.
      But cutting the population...? You first!

    • @peter_cuthbert
      @peter_cuthbert 3 года назад +1

      @@LittleKitty22 Yup! I'm right there - zero sprogs. I got on board the environmental movement in the 1970s and it was clear then that world population was not sustainable. The figures are worse now. Headed for 9bn when the planet could sustainably support just 3bn. Still this is meant to be a thread celebrating what the Lichfield Team have done.

    I'm so proud of L&H restoring this once forgotten cannal, but I agree hole heatedly with Michael Heart,the damage to our green belt is irreplaceable, the amount of development that is going on in Lichfield right now is so damageing,not to mention HS2,, Lichfield will be gridlocked before we no it,

    As a Lichfield resident, where the hell are the extra facilities and infrastructure going to be located for supporting this and many other parts of the city where the dramatically bourgeoning population has ballooned by way of more and more houses? I'm talking schools, doctors, shops, etc. Having said that, I have to say that the drive along the bypass is much more convenient than navigating the unnecessary obstacle course of nearby Shortbutts Road. Did you notice, however, at the end of the drive along it where the Shell petrol station is, of the potential problems of congestion where a car blocked the junction?

    It seems that all other canals are falling into a poor state of disrepair at the expense of this one. The Leeds Liverpool canal is falling apart in some places with the sides of the canal falling into the canal it wont be long before they have a breech in a few places.

    • @LHCRT
      @LHCRT  2 года назад +2

      Did you mean at the expense of The Lichfield Canal. If so, that's not the case as we don't get any funding from CRT.

    Winnie Wallace... Lichfield Started loosing its character in the sixties. So much history has been overlooked by the need to build ridiculously expensive houses.The town centres pathetic. You've got a Waitrose that's on the outskirts of town, so not accessible to everyone,and Marks and Spencers food hall closed its doors a while back, gone and sadly missed.
