That Malta NQ still hurtsssssss. I need them to bring a banger next year and get an excellent running order. Closing the show or something like that. We need them back in the final.
Portugal making the top 10 was such a breath of fresh air in a year with so many bops. i really hope they win again soon (if the televote gives them more love)
I am gonna say it - and people can disagree completely. Without the juries on the SF, Malta is going to have a massive disadvantage and is on the way of becoming the new country with the worst Q rate because the truth is, unless they send winner material they won't be in the finals
I actually disagree. They came 2nd in televoting in semi-final in 2021 just couple of points away from Ukraine. In last 3 years they just didn't send strong and memorable songs. Sure, it is true that Malta has to put much more effort to qualify than countries like Lithuania, but essentially they just need stronger songs. I see why they haven't been doing well recently.
i agree completely. same for san marino. if they don’t send winner material they are just out of the final. no matter if they send a good or a bad song. malta and san marino (especially malta) had some of the best stagings of the year and sarah delivered. if we swapped cyprus and malta’s entries, which are pretty similar, they would’ve gotten the same result: silia last in the semi, sarah top 15 in the final with possibly getting a better result like 13-12th place
In the Netherlands we are not refreshed yet, Europapa was the most popular Eurovision song ever over here, especially among youngsters, tbh I personally hope we skip 2025. But I think the broadcaster comes to an agreement with the EBU.
wish for 2025: More countries taking RISKS. We just saw with Ireland, Switzerland and Greece how well it can go and I hope that we´re getting more of that in the upcoming years
I personally feel like Croatia should of won this year always love it when a new country wins but Its funny to me how this year people weren’t as furious with the jury/televote split results as they were last year, imagine if Loreen came 5th with the televote and won you would not hear the end of it
Eh… people were upset and some still are. I think the fact Croatia didn’t win and most folks thought it would have folks a little surprise and ultimately I think people like that
One satisfying thing about Eurovision 2024 is that odds got it wrong this year, neither Croatia nor Isl won, Switzerland was third with just 16% chance of winning. And also, Latvia qualifying from last place in semi-final odds. Makes me a bit more excited about 2025. 😏
@@AlesiaMichelle This reminded me whenever I think of moments like this or similar for myself now I often find myself playing "What can be, unburdened by what has been" in my head in response. It genuinely helps me ease up big time, even if it was originally meant for a far wider reaching sentiment than just my personal mental health haha.
Alesia, since your approach to predictions is so systematic and analytical and since you get most of the things right I think you should consider making a model of several keys for predicting Eurovision winner just like Allan Lichtman does it for USA elections haha :)
@@AlesiaMichelleI think what @GospodinNelson meant by keys was a series of yes/no questions that can be used to predict the winner. Look up ‘Keys to the White House’ for an example. A professor developed a similar system for predicting the result of US elections and is on something like a 10+ cycle streak.
I'm listening to Lithuania a lot now. Always liked it but I have it in heavy rotation. Still heartbroken that San Marino and Cyprus didn't make the grand final.
In a way, it feels like Eurovision 2024 didn't even happen. We were all robbed of feeling joyful. So I'm especially looking forward to Eurovision 2025.
How do you know it's not going to be the same as over again? Are you talking about the Netherlands not being there? Because that's the only thing that may possibly change
For me ESC 2024 in a nutshell: Eventhough we don't know the possible results for Joost, I think Nemo is a deserved winner. This was perfection. I am really struggling with accreditation these last years. I'm missing the fun of the rehearsals. Maybe we have to ask ourselves: Do we want the biggest live event in the world or do we want this campy little festival (with a lot of viewers)?
The most expected placement for me was France doing exactly the same thing as Marco year earlier. Winner is fine among other winners we had up to this year. The biggest flex for me was Belgium not qualifying. The biggest surprise was Latvia and Cyprus. Armenia and Ireland were a moment that was really Well placed AND executed. Top 3 kinda expected, And Mango sadly failed staging.
I still think that the decision to have Joost out is a good one considering what was known at the time. The conclusion of the police investigation comes later on and it is always very hard to prove and win a court case because our law is protective of rights and favourable to the defendents (presumption of innocence etc). In terms of management, I understand the ESC decision in May and I am sure there are many behind the scenes facts that we do not know. And that is my take but I have always felt something erratic about Joost the whole season, to me it is very propbable that he got violent or threatening at some point. Some of the winners of this year are Latvia, Portugal, Ireland and Armenia. For different reasons they triumphed with a very solid package that outdid expectations. Greece was my favourite but should gave executed in a cleaner manner (the switch between live vocals and prerecorded vocala was annoying and the staging was messy). And congrats to Nemo, Baby Lasagna, Slimane...
I literally said, knowing what we know now... We know quite a bit, so I stand by my statement. The disqualification from this vantage point was just as "rash" as Joost's alleged behavior. Your assessment: "I have always felt something erratic about Joost the whole season, to me it is very propbable that he got violent or threatening at some point"- is not rooted in fact or lived experience. I'd encourage you not to place these types of assessments on strangers.
@@AlesiaMichelle thank you, the police said there was and is no proof it was his intention to hurt the woman. Joost has autism and very out there, but that’s about it. EBU had double standards in 2024 ♥️
Yup, the song from Moldova is still amazing. Especially the studio cut has a really good production. Malta needs to just internally select their artists/songs, because they had the best results with that formula. There is no other solution. It could be because of funds they are not doing it though idk..But the 30 songs thing is not working for them. Also Malta has no friends basically. Im mostly disappointed Norway ended up last place in the final.
I was one who, based on national final performance, didn’t think Ukraine should be top 5. But I changed my mind when I saw the performance for the semi final. I had Italy the other way round, top five until I saw their staging. Poland need to pick a staging concept for their entries and stick with it, not throw four or five at it and see what sticks. The UK I think overhyped themselves, got a bit too ambitious and it backfired. But it was still a solid entry.
@@AlesiaMichelleit didn’t, but from when it was announced that it would be Olly we got a lot of “this is going to be amazing and different, the gayest song ever to go to Eurovision” etc. and then, well, that happened. Decent track but not what they were promising. So maybe they weren’t overhyping internationally but here in the uk they were.
Was Czechia in the tougher semi. Norway and Austria were the two lowest placed qualifers both overall and with the televote in the final. Indeed overall we find 4 countries going bottom up from semi 2 before we hit the 2nd entry from semi 1. It seems like semi 2 was actually the easier semi to qualify from.
there's one song in the top 10 that shouldn't be there (not just because of politics, but it's a very bland and outdated pop ballad that would've worked in 2016 or 17) but I'm gonna try to take the high road and just live and let be and hope the EBU makes better decisions in the future. Everything else in the top 10 is fine. Luxembourg's jury love I can justify since it's a well produced pop song (still outdated but whatever) and being mostly in French gives it some flavor. Germany too but I think they got lucky with Isaak being a great vocalist. I think the juries have it out for Lithuania when they send songs that are 100% in Lithuanian. First 2022 and now this year, like what the fuck? Malta I can see why it didn't qualify but dead last?? I guess running order was a factor but they were done dirty.
