They get docked sometimes because they are hunting dogs and during hunting they can injure/break their tails whacking them in the trees and stuff. Our family owns a Weimaraner and we don't use her for hunting, so we didn't dock her tail. That being said, It really hurts when she whacks you with it and can sweep things off coffee tables. 😂😂

I love this video so much!! I can tell by his collar and shiny coat that he is very well cared for and he seems to love his owners. So cute showing us the little stumpy tail wagging..hahhaaaa!!!
@@gustavoabanto3486 Having 2 now myself I see that's true but they are pretty well-behaved aswell. It's like having little kids. If you don't show them what's right and wrong then you can't let them out of your sight.
To dock or not. When I got Gus from the shelter, I didn't know very much about Weims. Since then, I have read a lot about them. After researching the procedure and purpose of docking, I agree it's a good idea to dock a Weim's tail. I don't take Gus hunting, but he aggressively "hunts" rabbits in my yard. He goes mindlessly through shrubs and gets into some tight places, stands and points to "show" me where they are. If he had his tail, he may get it caught and torn. He doesn't know the difference between having a tail or not and is a very happy healthy boy. I think he is very handsome without a long tail, and runs and plays with strength, grace and beauty.
I have a Weimaraner also and he is wonderful. I also have a Dachshund female. They are perfect "hunting" companions because she will run up under the shrubs so he doesn't have to go in. She will chase the prey out and then both will run all over the yard together. They don't actually catch whatever it is they are after, they just stop when the animal stops or whenever they get tired. They are so funny together. My Weimaraner also has his own cat. Lost a lot of shoes and hats before vet told me he needs something to calm him down, hence the cat. It worked from day 1, although they "tear" up the house, running like crazy and going along the back of the furniture or up and over the furniture.
I don't have anything against docking, but I do think you and some other people here are really underestimating the strenght of a dog's tail. It's not some frail think that gets broken the second it hits something. All our dogs did fine going through bushes and holes with a tail.
My niece has one and they are very social with owners! They require tons of exercise and a large yard with mums and dads who will walk and roller blade with them. Not for everyone, but gentle giants. Extremely intelligent and train quickly by professionals. Again, not for just anyone because if they aren’t trained and they jump on you, they can knock you over because of over-exuberance for life! Sweet vid!!

Weimaraners are so majestic. My family had 3 of them. They are extremely loyal, smart, protective, and ... stubborn. Loved everyone of them - God Bless Baron, Duchess, and Nickel !!!
Weimaraner's tails are docked for a couple of reasons: Hunting dogs with thin, whip-like tails (like Weimaraners) usually have the upper parts of their tails docked because they are very thin and easily injured by heavy brush, etc. Today, most of them are continued for aesthetic or traditional reasons, but in every breed there are those who still work at what they're bred for and will benefit from the procedure. This is proven because the incidence of tail injuries in locations where docking is illegal have skyrocketed in working dogs. It'd be better for them to be docked as puppies than have their tails shred or torn while hunting. I found this answer on the web. I happened to get my dog from the shelter and he was already docked.
A childhood friend of mine had a dog who looked exactly like yours but he was black, not sure if he was the same type of dog or not though. Anyway, he had a long tail and when you got him excited and played with him it would hurt so bad to get whipped with it lol, I used to get bruises from him. So I can understand why people would do that. It probably hurt him as much as it hurt us lol.
Britney Reis Well, if you don't dock some dog's tails, they tail can often get long enough that it will drag along the ground and be injured frequently. Tail docking for a puppy, is just snipping it off, and a stitch, and maybe two. It's very quick, and it's healed in a day or two. If you wait until the dog is an adult, and you need to dock the tail then, it's major surgery, because you're opening the spinal column and it takes weeks to heal. They also have to be sedated of course for this surgery.
The problem with docking of the tail is that a lot of dog's body language is centered in the tail. Dogs with docked tails do have fewer injuries if they are working dogs, but those that have had them docked for aesthetic reasons have also been proven to have more aggression and mixed signals with other dogs. Other dogs with normal tails will approach them with more caution because tail position says a lot about a dog's mental state. It's an interesting debate. I think for me it comes down to: is your dog a family dog, or a working dog? Of the former, you probably don't need to dock the tail.
From what I understand, they are docked as puppies and the breeders wouldn't know if the buyer wants a working dog or just a family pet. And, there are breeds that don't have tails. I'm not sure I go with the aggression theory. My opinion, that's all.
@thebinghamhouse They are docked as puppies by some purebred breeders in part because it is AKC requirements to be a proper specimen of the breed. I find it really weird that any kennel club requires you alter an animal's physiology to qualify. I would think that the dog having two parents of the same breed is sufficient. But I'm going into show dogs. The aggression thing is newer research I believe, but I do but into it just from watching my dogs and family dogs interact. Even in tour video it shows the dog's tail responding to your cues. It is similar to how in humans, if something used in communication is missing or paralysed, others have trouble reading your body language. If nothing else, dogs do use their tails as rudders when running or swimming, and for balance. They adapt but people still altering their physiology for what is often a purely cosmetic purpose. That's how I view it anyway. I just feel bad for them. We had a dog whose tail was docked before we got him and it seemed to bother him. I can't explain it.He would look at his stumpy tail with this funny expression. And sometimes it qpuld itch but he couldn't bend enough to nibble the itchy spot. I think I am biased from seeing that lol.
Don't you people ever get sick and tired of these filthy, disease and bacteria ridden bags of crap! The world would be a much better place without dogs!
When my dog wants attention, he walks around the house with a ball in his mouth and cries. And, I don't mean an attention seeking whine. I mean a cry like he's in pain. He knows that if he cries like that, we come running. I guess he trained us well.......
OH MY GOD I finally found another dog who does that!!! My dog does that all the time, and the worst part is that she sticks her face in yours and moans REALLY loud!!

I love this video so much!! I can tell by his collar and shiny coat that he is very well cared for and he seems to love his owners. So cute showing us the little stumpy tail wagging..hahhaaaa!!!
I love these dogs. Had 3 in my life. The smell, the intelligence and as they gaze in your eyes
Weimaraners are so beautiful and loyal, so easy to train and extremely docile!
I've heard they are a bit stubborn because they are more intelligent than other breeds
@@PVT_White true, they want things to go their own way, but learn really fast!
@@gustavoabanto3486 Having 2 now myself I see that's true but they are pretty well-behaved aswell. It's like having little kids. If you don't show them what's right and wrong then you can't let them out of your sight.

Really showed how pretty the dog is.
OrangeHeart 😂😂
I have no idea what is going on.
Absolutely beautiful dog.
@RaniaIsAwesome Aww.. Lol
Marmite it’s weim time. When they want something. They will let you know lol. Amazing breed. I cherish my Marilyn.
Thank you for taking him from the shelter!!! More dogs/animals would need that!
Yes,Kate's teacher did that to.
Sweet vid!!
Awww poor baby he just wants to cuddle
I Miss SPOT My Dog R.I.P 2005 - 2019 I Will Never Forgot You !!!

The face of dad when the dog is barking, I'm dying 😂

lol
It's "Do you want to eat?" not weed. lolol
Yeah right.
His gaze is just very sweet! Loving those eyes.
If I ignore my Weimaraner a pile of toys will slowly grow at my feet...
0:29 "Why are you ignoring me hooman ? Did i do something ?"
Such a sweetheart 💗
I love dogs. This cracked me up. He's a happy dog. Give him a steak. LOL
He was literally singing 'say something I'm giving up on you' lol😆
Haha this is so cute! Dogs can be so smart and expressive!

What a healthy, gorgeous and magnificent dog
Hello Ingrid, How are you doing?
When my dog wants attention, he walks around the house with a ball in his mouth and cries. And, I don't mean an attention seeking whine. I mean a cry like he's in pain. He knows that if he cries like that, we come running. I guess he trained us well.......
XanfireX1 Yep, you're all well trained humans :)
OH MY GOD I finally found another dog who does that!!! My dog does that all the time, and the worst part is that she sticks her face in yours and moans REALLY loud!!
+sodapop, That actually sounds hilarious, get a video of that if you can.
Wow, the guy is like a mix of Tom Hanks and Benicio Del Toro!
