they said it didn't, but I agree it still is a defect nonetheless. Plus they said it has a sensitive stomach, sensitive skin, and loses its hair. I consider those health issues.
@@whitykitty2651 yeah. Those have the possibility to become more serious problems, and you can't be sure everyone is going to be as careful and take care of them as well as they say.

@@krisn8820 No, it is purely to keep the breeding stock in their hands. It is very unusual for kitten or pups to be neutered before they are sold, it is something seen only in the rare breeds.
@@krisn8820 you only see this in rare cat breeds as well. Dog kennels don't neuter their puppies when they sell them the best and purest dog kennels just sell for more. There is no need for these cats to cost that much the only exception for me would be if I got one directly from the people who discovered the lykoi. We take him in the truck, patio beers, park. Even loud bikes don’t scare him. Amazing animals. Love the minimal hair loss and smaller size.
@@Usernameusername45689 It looked like the cat itself wasn't keen on being handed over, and the owner may have been concerned about both its wellbeing and stress level, especially as it seems young, plus the safety of the blond woman. And she invited her inside and made a comment about how there were lots of other cats in there, so she was probably trying to gently redirect her to cats that would be more amenable to handling. Heck, other commenters pointed out how the blonde was trying to just take hold of someone else's pet without really checking that it was okay to do so!
Mutations are actually quite normal. Blue eyes originated with a mutation thousands of years ago. They say they just found such a cat with those traits and bred for those specific traits.
@@LedePat purebred dogs run into these similar issues too. It brings to mind pugs and bulldogs with their squished snouts is not normal. It not much as mutations, but selective breeding and being bred for certain traits and their downsides. I don't know for certain, but the cats may have been inbred to maintain the traits.
ALL cats have doglike qualities when it comes to how they play. If their owners interact with them good enough. All my cats have walked with me to the store, waited outside, walked with me back home. Fetched thrown sticks to bring them back, and chased other cats up trees. Also the cats have been around for 2 decades, not a few years.
I went to art school with a *super-rich* Egyptian girl. She lived in a posh high-rise apartment with her mom & a *FULL-GROWN BLACK PANTHER* for a whole year until the city found-out. She was tall & beautiful but CREEPY.
Lol yes, because not outside. And also it will scare the kitty and it may jump into street. Inside she can pass the kitten and kitten says, "oh mom trusts this person"
The biggest feature in my opinion of the wolf is their long snouts. Most Dog breeds don't have that and the closest ones (to the Wolf, like the wolf dogs) or the 'ancient' breeds (the breds that haven't changed a lot even after hundreds of years) are the ones who have that long snout (or something close to it). This cat bred is not even close.
I had a cat with paws like these cats when I was a teen. I called him Webbed Fingers (aka Fingers or Webster). First oddball cat I ever had that also loved to play in the water.
@@janedoe-dy3rr That's possible. Never before and never after did I have a cat that loved water to that level. He not only swam with me but I loved to catch amphibians (mostly toads), he helped me grab them. Making him not maul them was the only quagmire but he was smart enough to pick up on that. I already taught him to gentle-play... my hand was one of his toys and I taught him to wrestle my hand without scratching it up (much). I started being careful about where we went swimming. At a neighbor's pond, Webster sank suddenly. After a bit of my being scared, he popped back up and panic-swam to the shore. Later that night, a huge catfish was found dead scratched & bit up... I guessed what happened... Catfish tried making Webster a snack. So, I cooked up the catfish really well and fed it to Webster as his snack. That's also when my neighbor found out his pond had huge catfish. The odd thing is that there was no way that dumb catfish could have swallowed my cat, even if it drowned him. So what's the catfish's game plan? Drown a swimming animal and slurp off bits from its rotting floating corps as it drifts about? Meh... there I go trying to get into the brain of that mindless fish again. Oh, and we also stopped being amused by little toe-slurps the pond's fish did when you just chilled in an inner tube.
@@silverschmid4591 You are setting a really low bar and also ignoring the entire relativity stance on all things studied. By your standard, we humans have webbed hands, but it's just not visible because of how long our fingers are. I used an extreme as an illustration on purpose for a reason... stick with me here. Every cat I ever had, I groomed and inspected closely. Everyone always underestimates ticks and bod flies. I've only had one that would qualify as a webbed-footed cat. His paws were able to spread wide and had webbing that was obviously visible despite his fur. Thanks for your input, though. Such perceptions are not done in a vacuum, just by what allows assumptions to happen.
@@That80sGuy1972 calm down, dude. all I was saying is that all they all have the skin connecting their toes (and way more of it than humans do). why should I be defining what qualifies as webbed the exact same way you do? I get that you're passionate about this, but we are deep into opinion territory, and you are pretending that having had a cat with more toe skin than the others qualifies you to draw the arbitrary line for what qualifies as webbed feet and what doesn't.. for everyone. oh and if you're gonna keep being angry, you might as well not reply to this.

So outside no handover, but inside whatever you want because it is simply a closed and safe envirronment. Not tot mention if you watch closely the cat itself didn't really want to switch shoulders so it was pretty much a decission of both - the cat and the owner (responding to the cats dislike about the owners and visitors intentions). Dr. Leslie Lyons carried out the DNA test on the kittens to confirm that they were not Sphynx nor Devon. Mrs. Thomas gave the litter to Dr. Johnny Gobble as she did not have the time or resources to carry out the genetic and health tests herself. Dr. Gobble then received news of a second litter that has similarities to the first litter in Tennessee. The litter was born on September 2010, and was clear that this set of siblings had the same gene as the first litter. Numerous tests were carried out on the cats to determine whether they have any health problems or diseases that could have caused the mutation. It was discovered that the cats come from a natural mutation and the Lykoi breeding program began. In September 2011, the first ever Lykoi to Lykoi breeding cat was born. In 2012, the Lykoi cat was presented to The International Cat Association (TICA) registry and was passed to a ‘registration only’ status by unanimous consent. The Lykoi cat is now recognised as a TICA Championship Breed and can compete as of May 2017.
Julius Ceaser Thank you! I felt like she got sidetracked just when I wanted to hear WTH these things really are..or how they came about; their genetic makeup. So a simple mutation? Seems crazy🙀
I saw one of these cats once rescued at a shelter named Wolfy and thought it was one of a kind and maybe had a skin condition that made it look like a werewolf. I had no idea it was now a breed!!! Wolves and felines are my favorite animals so I find this to be a quite alluring and phenomenal creature! ❤😻🐺❤
I own macaws and I truly wish you'd do exotic bird episodes! So few people have focused on birds, it would be great to see you go in that direction..... although I truly enjoyed this video! If you could find more new cat breeds or ancient cat breeds, I'd love to see videos about that subject! Thank you again for a wonderful video!
Probably an unpopular opinion, but all I see is horrible people exploiting genetic defects all for the persuite of perverted vanity and exclusivity. I'm all for pets and animal loving people but not at the expense of the animal breeds produced specifically because of defects in appearance that people might like but are detrimental to the new breed's ability to live like a normal pet.
Agreed. It makes me sick how people do this to animals to create new "breeds" with little regard to their health. Fucking freaks. To me this is the same as if some superior alien species would come to Earth and forced humans with genetic diseases to mate with each other to create different looking humans.
They say they were tested for defects and none were found... Yet like a minute later they say you should keep them out of the sun and that they have more sensitive stomachs. People shouldn't be mixing and matching live animals like designer accessories.
Unfortunately so many people think of their own selfish needs and not the animals. I used to breed Dobermans, and we always put the health of our Stud/Bitch and pups first! During pregnancy and throughout the entire whelping process,. we also did an extensive adoption process for folks that purchased any of out puppies, and all were fixed, health checked, and we knew there would not be genetic issues, or inter breeding if people took more then one puppy from us. Animals are not toys or objects you can experiment on!!!
Poor cats, seems they got a genetic mutation that prevents undercoat growth, and thats it. Nothing but a cruel curse for them, if they were be in the sun for too long they would get burns on the exposed skin, sad since it happens to be a cats favorite way of warming up from what i can tell.
Actually - sometimes they even lose all of their fur, granted it grows back - but still. The last thing cats need is to get bred for certain vain properties and end up getting a shitload of genetic defects a few generations due to it, just like purebred dogs.

Wait. In the beginning they said they came across 2 liykoi kittens in america right? doesnt sound weird at all right? But how did they make the first born Liykoi litter? It's highly unlikely to come across the same mutation in 2 separate pairs of cat, which implies they might have inbred the first pair of lykoi kittens to try and get the same results. Then they might have tried with other cat breeds. But their website doesn't specify how they started breeding and what cats they were paired with begin with! I'll stick with my rescue cats, always. If there's one in a shelter that needed to be adopted, sure, but I'd rather adopt and anim that needs me most.
they said it didn't, but I agree it still is a defect nonetheless. Plus they said it has a sensitive stomach, sensitive skin, and loses its hair. I consider those health issues.
@@whitykitty2651 yeah. Those have the possibility to become more serious problems, and you can't be sure everyone is going to be as careful and take care of them as well as they say.
Last time I got a cat from the shelter, she had feline leukemia. I recently brought a stray kitty home and she is perfectly healthy. Healthier than one from the shelter. I spent so much money and it was very emotional and she passed away. I don't wish that on anyone. We only got one year with her
They directly say that tests were run and the cats were perfectly healthy.
Cats barely have any breeds that actually affect their health, unlike dogs.
I disagree. Also, if you read the first reply, it does have some problems.
Most people can't just pick up a random cat off the street. Most cats can get feline leukemia, shelter or not. Thousands of shelter cats get put down every year because they're not saved.

My grandma got one for free because someone found a bunch of cats that were left outside to die and my grandmas friend, was working with the person who found the cats and my grandma asked her friend to ask the women if she can have a cat, the cat now lives with my grandma and she is very beautiful and healthy :3 she like idk how many months old

Interesting comment. I said that to a girl once.
"We spay and neuter all our kittens" - Of course they do, they hold a monopoly on the breed and are earning big bucks from it.
Absolutely they do same crap in the US. They talk about making the breed more common and available but they want to be the only one selling them.
It's responsible breeding. Not meant to be a money maker for people. They are a pet that need to be taken care of. Trailer trash don't need to be breeding anything!!
Pit bull for example you can find one at a shelter and buy it for a 100$ or go to a top name breeder their first pick dog is 10000$. There is no need for these cats to cost that much the only exception for me would be if I got one directly from the people who discovered the lykoi. Its simply for whoever has a pair not spayed/neutered to rip people off I looked at a lot of lykoi catteries and they all spay and neuter

Mutations are actually quite normal. Blue eyes originated with a mutation thousands of years ago. They say they just found such a cat with those traits and bred for those specific traits.

There are water cats that have webbed feet, maybe you actually had one. Cool.
Oh, and we also stopped being amused by little toe-slurps the pond's fish did when you just chilled in an inner tube.
all cats have webbed feet, it's just usually not visible because of the fur.

Which is funny because the Lykoi does not share a gene with the sphynx
@zzac1an *LOL*
They really do! 🤣
True!!

Hello 👋 greetings from Mark A Welsh...
They said it's a natural thing
Animals are not toys or objects you can experiment on!!!
coal james totaly agree!
0:46 omg it’s scourge, from the teenage book series Warrior Cats
Poor cats, seems they got a genetic mutation that prevents undercoat growth, and thats it. Nothing but a cruel curse for them, if they were be in the sun for too long they would get burns on the exposed skin, sad since it happens to be a cats favorite way of warming up from what i can tell.
Actually - sometimes they even lose all of their fur, granted it grows back - but still.
The last thing cats need is to get bred for certain vain properties and end up getting a shitload of genetic defects a few generations due to it, just like purebred dogs.
maybe they turn in to real werewolf at full moon🐱👤,lol
