At the expense of being called a snob i never drink beers brewed under license i like a foreign beer to originate from the country of origin not the brewed under license rubbish we keep getting forced upon us.

I am a Japanese, so I have fare share amount of those beers. "辛口--karakuchi" means dry. Asahi has less flaveorfull compared with Kirin, but it matches well with relatively salty Japanese food. I saw a RUclips video about craft beer distribution in Australia produced by ABC. Both Kirin and Asahi are large distributors in Australia.

But wasn’t it 5%? Ichiban? And it’s no longer imported beer in here, Australia, it’s made here under bloody “supervision”. Tastes as bad as every other under supervision beers in Australia

Interesting! I went to the original Asahi brewery last year (nr Osaka), and the original Kirin brewery 2 weeks ago (Yokohama). Kirin made a big thing about the Ichiban's unique single step first pressing process... Both much nicer in the brewery taprooms than from the bottles of course. I'll have to try them side by side as I slightly preferred the Kirin, even though they're not the real deal in the UK.

Asahi is a mass brewery that still brews quality beer....so far in the uk they haven't messed with Asahi..it's funny its brewed in Italy though...they have kept the quality of the Fullers range as well...

I would disagree Fullers beers have changed, even though I will still drink them. Still of acceptable quality for me but I can taste how they've changed not so good anymore.

Have you ever tried dos Equis ambar
Tried it years ago in an authentic Mexican restaurant in Manchester
    Bloody lovely
It’s not available in the uk anymore
You can get the dos equis lager but that’s pish by comparison
I’d love to try the ambar again but I’d have to move to the states

    Tried both and they're ok.
In Japan they associate a beer with a big head wirh quality.
You can buy a "can" from a vending machine and the entire top removes and the beer inside has a head on it, i think asahi make it.

I first tried Asahi when it was brewed by Shepherd Neame, and thought it was one of the best UK brewed lagers. I would love to try the original Japanese brewed version.

I bought Asahi and other beers from 7/11 while in Tokyo. It tastes fresher, the can really pops when you open it. I was reading the asahi cans around my town and they all said brewed in China by Tsingtao. Sad.

Used to drink Kirin when I lived in Hong Kong and Thailand and had a good month, many years ago. It was always expensive and excellent. These were the days before Asahi became a world brand, and Sapporo was sold in 330ml silver coloured cans that looked like a hand grenade. I could buy them in Hong Kong but the military government in Thailand banned them, literally because they looked like hand grenades. It's such a sham and shame that Kirin is now brewed here.

From personal experience, Asahi Super Dry is a fantastic beer to go with peppery or spicy dishes, it marries well with any food like a carbonara (original, no cream or anything) or spicy ramen.
Fun note: "Ichiban" means "The best" or "Number one" in Japanese, it's usually found on products, it'd be like a "Best Quality" sticker here in the West.

There are Japanese Ramen street foods in Manchester selling both. Big bubbles aren't great thats true. The beer tends to explode in your mouth. Not a good experience.

I did not drink Asahi brewed in Japan, but the one brewed in my country (Romania) is really unpleasant in smell or taste. I tried it several times hoping that it will get better, but not. Never again.

More global brewing shenanigans. I love original (Japanese brewed) Ashai, Sapporo and my favourite was Kirin. Kirin now brewed in UK and not bad but not a patch on the original. Sapporo was moved to Canada and pretty much ruined in one fell swoop 😞 Ashai first moved to UK I believe (bad) then Czech Republic which wasn't a bad drop but now moved to Italy with marked drop in quality again. (Though not as bad as UK brewed version) Frankly none of them resembles or can match the original brews but all have premium price tags that don't match the quality. I recall arguing with a senior Inbev representative who said they could brew any beer anywhere and make it identical. Any drinker knows this to be patently false 🙄

You literally need to take a flight to Japan and try the MADE IN JAPAN VERSION of the Asahi, not the UK version. Night and day difference my friend. (I live in Hong Kong, and the Made in China version of Asahi is shit as well, only the MADE IN JAPAN VERSION is good)

Bottles of Sapporo are brewed by Diageo in Ireland.
I had a bottle from a Japanese restaurant last month and saw that.
Sapporo cans are now brewed in Vietnam.
