Movies don’t influence society. It’s the society that impacts movies. Kabir singh is a part of the society and that’s why he’s shown on a movie. In the 90s you’d see actors used to portray working class characters . Now it’s not the case anymore because socialism/communism is gone. So you should blame society, not movies.
Just to let you know socialism never existed in this society. Socialism and secularism too were nothing more than a lexicon added by "India gandhi" during emergency in the forty second amendment of the Indian constitution.
Very well said by Manoj. In this democratic country you can't stop someone from making any movie (a mode of expression), but yes if you don't agree with it, don't watch it. That’s what a fictional character is.. you shouldn’t be looking for RAHUL every where! If the film is with the character who is flawed them let it be! It’s a good film! Why cannot a character like kabir singh who has anger issue won’t win his girl back?
@@Ajinkyachavan. kind sir, nobody actually looks for a RAHUL in every movie. Movies leave imprints on the society, in the form of lessons mostly. I understand that a movie is what it is and that is how the director or the writer must have wanted it to be shown. Nobody actually owes any responsibility towards the greater good as long as they get to keep the share of profits. But that does not mean even the criticism such work of creation shall be suppressed to uphold the creator's will. The movie exhibits misogyny and that is not debatable. And in my opinion Kabir Singh should not get the girl because such instances violence now can very well turn into abuse, cruelty or forced sexual contact ( and if you believe that it is too far fetched to be assumed then imagine how can a man so enslaved by his anger unable to take such steps) Now this institutionalised misogyny is a concern, for some as grave as climate change, even if we have an option to go live in Himalayas (analogous to not watching the movie) we may very well choose to stay and criticise the root of the problem, hence the movie is being hated. This popularization of Kabir Singh encourages many others to be abusive and still like you said 'get the girl'. The victims though believing that slaps and a little romantic violence is crucial part of the relationship are unaware that all this is even criminally offensive much less morally. Because in the long run the admirers of this movies would share time with me and others who are criticizing it we find it our responsibility to call out the industry for such creations. On another related point, now matter how fine a actor would oppose the industry that helps them earn their bread.

As for “glorifying”. 1 it’s a movie so some things like the ending will not make sense because it’s artificial. It’s not going to be perfect. 2 there are many types of people in the world who are Kabir Singh and have a messed up belief which may get rewarded unjustly. They are creative media that explores different perspectives and lives. Parent your kids better so that they are smart enough to know movies are fictional and shouldn’t be taken at face value. I'm so glad to find this comment among all the others. There are films that depict problematic characters. But the characters face consequences of their actions. This character is problematic and still glorified. That's the problem. If you portray problematic characters, do not portray the behavior as okay.
Film's purpose is to entertain and incite emotion. We should not burden them with morality. Stories involving flawed people are even more realistic that the ones with perfect people.
This is where problem is.. They think personally as if they watch it themselves sitting in home.. Message of film is not at all their responsibility, this is their problem as an individual thinker in our grt India👌🏼
An intelligent articulation by a brilliant artist. It is this illiterate & ignorant media that label bollywood & cinema as a medium of education. It never was & it never will be. It is a medium of entertainment & at max a medium of record keeping of the culture & society that existed when movie was made. Cinema can't change society rather society makes the cinema. Cinema only shows & should be showing what is already prevalent in society.
I respect Manoj sir's point of view.. There is no problem in making a character like Kabir Singh as someone like him is a part of society..But the problem arises when the deeds of the character is overglorified in the movie with heroic bgm's..That brings a bad influence on atleast some people and children as they think that what is shown is actually good..
I was just looking for words to reply and this is exactly it. If a villain is a rapist, we are okay with it because we know he’s a bad guy. BUT when the HERO - does it and it’s glorified, then it gives kids an idea that oh he did it, nobody said it was wrong. So when I do it, it is ok.
It was glorified in wolf of the wall street too.....But at the end both the characters have faced its repercussions and eventually moved on. If people aren't able to grasp the overall message of the movie.....be it children or 'some people' which u have mentioned. It's not director's problem. He can't satisfy everyone.

Films don’t change society, but they surely influence it. Specially in India. At the end of day I wouldn’t wish anyone be trapped in the toxic relationship that they showed in Arjun Reddy. Man or woman. The fact that so many people loved the character and related to the portrayal of love in the film speaks more about our society than it does of the presence or lack thereof of any artistic merit in the creators of the film.
Movies influence society but you know what else does:
Ceiling fans: ceilings fans might influence people to hang themselves increasing suicide rates in the country
Swimming pools: people might be influenced to jump in pools and later end up drowning
Fire: Some people might play with fire not understanding its consequences, leading to burns and possibly death,
Cars: Cars influence people to drive which leads to some people getting into accidents and possibly death,
Moral of the story: Everything is an influence in the world, hence god has given us a brain to decide what is right and wrong for us 😊

And nobody cares of the fact, he's not a roadside boy misbehaving with or eve teasing a girl, he's a surgeon and she's a doctor too. It's between them, how they want their relationship to be. They're both adults and well read and educated.

1:03 is this any way to behave to a senior person!?
Whenever Manoj Vajpayee Sir speaks, I love to listen........
The problem happens when a bad character is glorified and romanticized.
And in my opinion Kabir Singh should not get the girl because such instances violence now can very well turn into abuse, cruelty or forced sexual contact ( and if you believe that it is too far fetched to be assumed then imagine how can a man so enslaved by his anger unable to take such steps)
Now this institutionalised misogyny is a concern, for some as grave as climate change, even if we have an option to go live in Himalayas (analogous to not watching the movie) we may very well choose to stay and criticise the root of the problem, hence the movie is being hated.
@@Ajinkyachavan. Watch movie "The Flight" -Same topic but different way of representation in Hollywood. I believe Alcoholic people should be rehab. And then If they are able to do so then they gain a 2nd chance of life which can be glorifiable with good deeds.
Kabir Singh is not a movie which should be shown to teenagers as it glorifies the harmful action and words in the entire storyline.
@@anantsingh454 Movies are movies regardless of your beliefs on its affects. Kabir Singh was a great movie because it was a story about a very flawed character. Liking the character or story doesn’t mean you justify their actions similarly to how many like the Joker character from DC, yet they don’t agree with their actions. As for “glorifying”. 1 it’s a movie so some things like the ending will not make sense because it’s artificial. It’s not going to be perfect. 2 there are many types of people in the world who are Kabir Singh and have a messed up belief which may get rewarded unjustly. That’s what’s compelling and important about movies. To show you different perspectives whether they are right or wrong. Movies are not adverts to tell people how to act. They are creative media that explores different perspectives and lives. Parent your kids better so that they are smart enough to know movies are fictional and shouldn’t be taken at face value. Stop blaming movies for people’s stupidity.
In simple words, *STOP MAKING JUDGEMENTS!*

Kya baat h sir😅
This is where problem is.. They think personally as if they watch it themselves sitting in home.. Message of film is not at all their responsibility, this is their problem as an individual thinker in our grt India👌🏼
An intelligent articulation by a brilliant artist. It is this illiterate & ignorant media that label bollywood & cinema as a medium of education. It never was & it never will be. It is a medium of entertainment & at max a medium of record keeping of the culture & society that existed when movie was made. Cinema can't change society rather society makes the cinema. Cinema only shows & should be showing what is already prevalent in society.
GREAT THINKING
WE NEED MORE PEOPLE LIKE MANOJ SIR - 4:37
Such an optimistic reply. It's genuinely true that films don't change our society and it just leaves a temporary impact on people which decreases rapidly. I mean it doesn't last for more than a day.
