My cousin who’s a bit older than me went there and it cost $8,000 per semester for 3 classes I believe. That was like in 2010 too. Ridiculous. So it’s probably $16,000 per semester now. And professors are known to do what they can to flunk any non athletes, all for more money. They’re legitimately evil. A lot of Alabamians are only fans because it’s the name of the state we live in lol but most my family went to auburn and UAB so I never fell for it
The university dominates the city. My daughter attends U of A, and we bought a house there last spring. I've only spent about a week or so down there, but I did make it to my first football game this fall. It was an awesome experience that I shared with 100,000 other spectators!

Tuscaloosa is an Indian name. Chief Tuskaloosa is a black Indian warrior, hence the name of our river, The Black Warrior River. Good job covering the university grounds of my hometown. That tornado of 2011 almost took half the City of Tuscaloosa off the Alabama map. Coach Saban and Miss Terry were an integral part of putting T-town back together in the storm's wake. The Royal Couple helped many citizens in picking up the pieces and starting their lives over back in 2011 and the Coach and Miss Terry became the King and Queen of UA, Tuscaloosa, and most of the State of Alabama.
Coach and Mrs. Terry walked into T-Town as royalty. Mayor Walt Maddox was the reason the city recovered so fast from the storm. The Sabans did contribute money and time to helping eh cause.
Just for the record - The Alabama Crimson Tide is the most successful football program of the last 100 years, not just the past 20 years. 18 National Championships since 1925.

My daughter and son in law live in Tuscaloosa and we spent 3 weeks there last June July. All those scenes are familiar and it was wonderful to see it all again. Lovely people and great food. Hope to return this year from Australia. Hope to catch a game. Roll tide!
Tuscaloosa is also home to STILLMAN COLLEGE located on the west end of the city which has a world renowned choir, basketball team,baseball team and debate team. Y’all like to come to Tuscaloosa and only highlight the university like it’s not two other schools in the city that play a part.

My wife and I have been to all 50 states. I was a college teacher, but, chef, butcher, nationally syndicated TV series in 80's, and seen daily in the ABC news in Birmingham. The TV series and seven food books got us from, Pa., to beautiful Alabama, as we did 40 TV shows also each month in all major Florida cities, but did four each month with CBS/WKRG, in Mobile, so we knew Alabama. We hated Phila., Pa., as the people and weather were not friendly, but Alabama was. A large food chain flew us down, and 42 years later, still love the state. Wrote several best sellers on Alabama, and as world travelers, we will never leave this wonderful state, with sub-tropical weather, and friendly people too!T-Town is in our travel section in two of our best sellers, and boy can they play football. Auburn too has a beautiful campus, did a book tour there. Please do a video on that sweet town too! We love our mountains, 85% tree cover and Gulf Shores talcum powder beaches, and award winning restaurants.

Tuscaloosa town has spead out now. The Old downtown is nothing like it use to be. The McFarland Mall on Skyland closed a lot of the shop's in downtown and the University Mall on McFarland Blvd Years later, shut down alot of the McFarland Mall. It's always out with the old and in with the new. Then the Tornado in 2011 that went through the heart of the city also changed everything. The downtown area hold a special place in my heart with all the big name shops that was once there. Every Christmas they had all the place decorated with lights on every building.There was 4 theaters the Bama Capri, Druid , and one other I forgot the name of it. We also had a drive in theater call the Dale Drive In. I miss those days!
Next time you visit, eat breakfast at The Waysider and a late lunch at Dreamland. Maybe tour Druid City….a subdivision of T-town; years ago, it was lovely….not sure what it’s like now.

I have lots of love for Tuscaloosa. A lot of my family live there and the city has come a long way. When we would visit as kids we hated it but it consistently gets more and more beautiful. My aunt had a hair school named Queen Ester there for a long time but she’s retired living her best life.

On the first side of the stadium that you passed there are numerous historical statues and a walk of champions.. you have to park and walk it. Also the Denny Chimes you passed has historical hand prints and foot prints of football greats. There is a haunted historical mental hospital further out past Northport called Old Bryce that has a notorious history
Yep...the "Old Bryce" is the Jemison Center in Northport. Not sure why it was given that name since the original Bryce Hospital located on the UA campus was built almost 80 years before it.
There was a big migration from Alabama to Texas in the 1830s and 1840s. My 4th-great grandfather Rolen Box sailed from Mobile to Harrisburg (now Houston) in 1834. The Texas adventure continues... 🌿⭐🌿

There are a lot of trees in Tuscaloosa and the University as you mentioned, so both areas are particularly beautiful and scenic in Spring, Summer and Fall. Driving across the Black Warrior River Bridge from Northport into Tuscaloosa is also very scenic with many large, beautiful trees on both sides of the river.
There are several Colleges in Tuscaloosa besides U.A.T. There's also Shelton State and Stillman, College the College whereas I attended in the late 70's early 80's. Tuscaloosa is a very nice town. I've always admired Tuscaloosa.
Texas School Book Depository at 6:35. LOL. It used to The First National Bank. The Jemison Home was once the public library. I live in metro Tuscaloosa. Trust me, are are less charming areas of T-town than the parts you saw.

My wife and I have seen the Glenn Miller Band play there a few times in the past. Of course I am an Auburn fan and on my visits I did wear my Auburn jacket but no one said anything thing. There’s a small town a hour southeast of Tuscaloosa called Montevallo, home of the University of Montevallo! If you ever get a chance to visit, it’s 100% worth the trip. The university’s campus is everything you think of when think of a small southern town- red brick streets, old style street signs, brick archways, beautiful old (and definitely haunted) buildings, and amazing old trees! LOTS of history there on UM’s campus. The town is tiny but charming. Also home to American Village which has replicas of many historical American buildings! I went to UM from 2016-2020, worth a visit if you’re ever in the area!

Tuscaloosa changed a lot and there are some places I could not recognize anymore except around UA. I've lived here for four yeas and i was student of UA. For me, tuscaloosa is kind of where I miss so much. I hope I can go back and vist the apartment I've been lived and the restaurant i ate before, oh, and my UA❤
I've been to the Jemison home before, but it was when it was the library and then again when a publisher operated there. That time I got to go into the cupola! I definitely want to see it now. Back when I lived there, there were so many antebellum houses in town that some were subdivided into student apartments. There were also other well known haunted buildings in town. Smith Hall on campus if I remember right, and some antebellum houses that were featured in "13 Alabama Ghosts and Jeffrey" by Kathryn Tucker Windham.
Cahaba, also spelled Cahawba, was the first permanent state capital of Alabama from 1820 to 1825, and the county seat of Dallas County, Alabama until 1866. Located at the confluence of the Alabama and Cahaba rivers, it suffered regular seasonal flooding. The state legislature moved the capital to Tuscaloosa in 1826. Tuscaloosa was the second state capital.
We love Taco Casa. Well, most folks here do. For anyone who's wondering, it's not a Taco Bell clone. In fact, Taco Casa opened almost 50 years ago. And it doesn't pretend to be at all authentic Mexican food. Not Tex-Mex either. It's its own unique thing. One of the most popular things they serve are their fountain drinks, because of the shaved ice they use. When my wife was pregnant, she couldn't get enough of it, and other folks say the same thing.
Our family lived in the country down there I. The early 80s! It sure was sad to see that tornado damage in 2011. Oh yes I remember this small city. We lived closer to Cottondale, but would visit Tuscaloosa quite often. At some point there I lived in the town itself with family and went to Shelton.State. Oh I am so glad to see this place back.up and prospering!

I also wish our school education is as good as our athletics department but overall still a very good school to attend to for Criminal Justice, and especially the Law school is top notch.

3:42 Tuscaloosa was not the original capital of Alabama. Cahawba was the first permanent capital from 1820-1825 then it was moved to Tuscaloosa in 1826, before finally moving to Montgomery in 1846

The history was enlightening, The Southern Ale House has been a spot I've wondered about, definitely a must try and the extremely loud car that DOESN'T need a muffler is custom to Tuscaloosa. You surely had "Georgia on your mind" later that day you filmed. Vegas gave pre-season odds of 500 to 1 that TCU would win the national championship. Imagine coming so close! Twice glimpsed the street signs for the Paul W. Bryant Drive. Even New Englanders (or some of us at least) have a broad enough general knowledge base to recognize the name of Alabama's legendary former coach. Actually Bill Belicheck holds him in high esteem. The stadium is stunning. Its seating capacity would accomodate, per your figures, every man, woman and child in Tuscaloosa. You did a great job again beginning with filming that indestructable and dignified metal cantilever railroad bridge on massive piers and followed up with showing what was, for me, equally impressive, namely, that part on land leading up to it: a long railroad trestle sitting upon a magnificently built wooden trelliswork. Your customary closing was also perfect-a gourmet quality lunch-and my watching after having had a few beers and a substantially inferior dinner!
I went to graduate school in Alabama. I was happy when I left, and nothing I saw here has changed my mind or made me feel at all nostalgic for Tuscaloosa.

Too bad, when you were at the Jemison home you were right down the street from the historic Waysider restaurant. It's a Tuscaloosa tradition, you could of had lunch there. Check it out if you ever return.
You would have been better off in the restaurant choice by going a couple of blocks down from the Jemison House to The Waysider. Or pop across the bridge and get ribs at Archibald's.

If you guys ever come to north west Alabama (Florence, area) you should visit W.C. Handy Museum (famous musician, Florence was his birthplace) Helen Keller museum (in Tuscummbia), Fame Recording studios ( world famous, in muscle shoals) and the trail of tears Rock Wall. Alot of history in the Quad Cities (Florence, Tuscumbia, Sheffield, muscle Shoals) Love ur videos, keep em comin ☺
My Grandfather (mother's side) was walking out of the court house in Florence on V-E Day ( end of ww2 ) and saw W.C. Handy playing God Bless America on the steps of court house in Celebration, I just like telling that story, very historical

Been to Tuscaloosa twice (alone) for Alabama games, stayed at the (yikes) Masters Inn, and found the people of Alabama from the rental car girl at the Birmingham airport to the girl in the kiosk booth at the entrance of the Masters Inn to be absolutely delightful, polite, and chatty. In fact, every one I met, and I’m a chatty person LOL…. from people in Bryant Denny stadium, fans, to retail workers in malls and bars were all really kind and polite. The humidity in September is nasty… but the people, especially those Southern gals, were wonderful to be around and talk to. And I’m from Canada.
Too bad they aren't famous for providing a great education over football. 😆

I'm not trying to throw any shade here, but chief Tuskaloosa was not black. He was native American, his name does translate to black warrior though.

The TV series and seven food books got us from, Pa., to beautiful Alabama, as we did 40 TV shows also each month in all major Florida cities, but did four each month with CBS/WKRG, in Mobile, so we knew Alabama. We hated Phila., Pa., as the people and weather were not friendly, but Alabama was. A large food chain flew us down, and 42 years later, still love the state. Wrote several best sellers on Alabama, and as world travelers, we will never leave this wonderful state, with sub-tropical weather, and friendly people too!T-Town is in our travel section in two of our best sellers, and boy can they play football. Auburn too has a beautiful campus, did a book tour there. Please do a video on that sweet town too! We love our mountains, 85% tree cover and Gulf Shores talcum powder beaches, and award winning restaurants.

Tuscaloosa town has spead out now. The Old downtown is nothing like it use to be. The McFarland Mall on Skyland closed a lot of the shop's in downtown and the University Mall on McFarland Blvd Years later, shut down alot of the McFarland Mall. It's always out with the old and in with the new. Then the Tornado in 2011 that went through the heart of the city also changed everything. The downtown area hold a special place in my heart with all the big name shops that was once there. Every Christmas they had all the place decorated with lights on every building.There was 4 theaters the Bama Capri, Druid , and one other I forgot the name of it. We also had a drive in theater call the Dale Drive In. I miss those days!
The Fox Twin in the old mall. I want to say there was one more downtown but can't remember the name.
Next time you visit, eat breakfast at The Waysider and a late lunch at Dreamland. Maybe tour Druid City….a subdivision of T-town; years ago, it was lovely….not sure what it’s like now.

I have lots of love for Tuscaloosa. A lot of my family live there and the city has come a long way. When we would visit as kids we hated it but it consistently gets more and more beautiful. My aunt had a hair school named Queen Ester there for a long time but she’s retired living her best life.

On the first side of the stadium that you passed there are numerous historical statues and a walk of champions.. you have to park and walk it. Also the Denny Chimes you passed has historical hand prints and foot prints of football greats. There is a haunted historical mental hospital further out past Northport called Old Bryce that has a notorious history
Yes as a kid we use use to say you are so crazy you need to be in Bryce.
Yep...the "Old Bryce" is the Jemison Center in Northport. Not sure why it was given that name since the original Bryce Hospital located on the UA campus was built almost 80 years before it.
There was a big migration from Alabama to Texas in the 1830s and 1840s. My 4th-great grandfather Rolen Box sailed from Mobile to Harrisburg (now Houston) in 1834. The Texas adventure continues... 🌿⭐🌿

You missed the significance of the Gorgas House on campus. Worth seeing and hearing about.
There are a lot of trees in Tuscaloosa and the University as you mentioned, so both areas are particularly beautiful and scenic in Spring, Summer and Fall. Driving across the Black Warrior River Bridge from Northport into Tuscaloosa is also very scenic with many large, beautiful trees on both sides of the river.

There are several Colleges in Tuscaloosa besides U.A.T. There's also Shelton State and Stillman, College the College whereas I attended in the late 70's early 80's. Tuscaloosa is a very nice town. I've always admired Tuscaloosa.
Texas School Book Depository at 6:35. LOL. It used to The First National Bank. The Jemison Home was once the public library. I live in metro Tuscaloosa. Trust me, are are less charming areas of T-town than the parts you saw.

My wife and I have seen the Glenn Miller Band play there a few times in the past. Of course I am an Auburn fan and on my visits I did wear my Auburn jacket but no one said anything thing. They are good people. Before you leave Alabama and while you are on the east side of the state please visit prettiest little village on the plains of Alabama, AUBURN University. There’s a small town a hour southeast of Tuscaloosa called Montevallo, home of the University of Montevallo! If you ever get a chance to visit, it’s 100% worth the trip. The university’s campus is everything you think of when think of a small southern town- red brick streets, old style street signs, brick archways, beautiful old (and definitely haunted) buildings, and amazing old trees! LOTS of history there on UM’s campus. The town is tiny but charming. Also home to American Village which has replicas of many historical American buildings! I went to UM from 2016-2020, worth a visit if you’re ever in the area!

Tuscaloosa changed a lot and there are some places I could not recognize anymore except around UA. I've lived here for four yeas and i was student of UA. For me, tuscaloosa is kind of where I miss so much. I hope I can go back and vist the apartment I've been lived and the restaurant i ate before, oh, and my UA❤
I've been to the Jemison home before, but it was when it was the library and then again when a publisher operated there. That time I got to go into the cupola! I definitely want to see it now. Back when I lived there, there were so many antebellum houses in town that some were subdivided into student apartments. There were also other well known haunted buildings in town. Smith Hall on campus if I remember right, and some antebellum houses that were featured in "13 Alabama Ghosts and Jeffrey" by Kathryn Tucker Windham.
Cahaba, also spelled Cahawba, was the first permanent state capital of Alabama from 1820 to 1825, and the county seat of Dallas County, Alabama until 1866. Located at the confluence of the Alabama and Cahaba rivers, it suffered regular seasonal flooding. The state legislature moved the capital to Tuscaloosa in 1826. Tuscaloosa was the second state capital.
Glad you put this historical fact in perspective. “Old Cahaba” is a very interesting place. It is now a historical park

I was in Tuscaloosa in August 2018, I loved Tuscaloosa, good taco place there, Taco Casa.
We love Taco Casa. Well, most folks here do. For anyone who's wondering, it's not a Taco Bell clone. In fact, Taco Casa opened almost 50 years ago. And it doesn't pretend to be at all authentic Mexican food. Not Tex-Mex either. It's its own unique thing. One of the most popular things they serve are their fountain drinks, because of the shaved ice they use. When my wife was pregnant, she couldn't get enough of it, and other folks say the same thing.

We lived closer to Cottondale, but would visit Tuscaloosa quite often.
At some point there I lived in the town itself with family and went to Shelton.State.

I also wish our school education is as good as our athletics department but overall still a very good school to attend to for Criminal Justice, and especially the Law school is top notch.

In Birmingham, the thunder is starting with possibilty of tornado or straight line winds so you two be very care and batten down the hatches, when the whether gets bad, it will be finished around 1pm.
We got caught in the tornado that hit LaGrange, Georgia. Pretty scary!

The history was enlightening, The Southern Ale House has been a spot I've wondered about, definitely a must try and the extremely loud car that DOESN'T need a muffler is custom to Tuscaloosa. You surely had "Georgia on your mind" later that day you filmed. Vegas gave pre-season odds of 500 to 1 that TCU would win the national championship. Imagine coming so close! Twice glimpsed the street signs for the Paul W. Bryant Drive. Even New Englanders (or some of us at least) have a broad enough general knowledge base to recognize the name of Alabama's legendary former coach. Actually Bill Belicheck holds him in high esteem. The stadium is stunning. Its seating capacity would accomodate, per your figures, every man, woman and child in Tuscaloosa. You did a great job again beginning with filming that indestructable and dignified metal cantilever railroad bridge on massive piers and followed up with showing what was, for me, equally impressive, namely, that part on land leading up to it: a long railroad trestle sitting upon a magnificently built wooden trelliswork. Your customary closing was also perfect-a gourmet quality lunch-and my watching after having had a few beers and a substantially inferior dinner!

I visited Tuscaloosa some years ago right after a tornado wiped out a complete neighborhood.
I grew up in west end. I loved every second.
I went to graduate school in Alabama. I was happy when I left, and nothing I saw here has changed my mind or made me feel at all nostalgic for Tuscaloosa.
OK I love Texas But I love my home state of GA. The game was a slam dunk. That's all I have to say about that. Thanks for another awesome video! I've been through it on the interstate ,so haven't ever go to see it but Tuscaloosa looks like a nice town. Thanks for the tour!

Too bad, when you were at the Jemison home you were right down the street from the historic Waysider restaurant. It's a Tuscaloosa tradition, you could of had lunch there. Check it out if you ever return.
You would have been better off in the restaurant choice by going a couple of blocks down from the Jemison House to The Waysider. Or pop across the bridge and get ribs at Archibald's.
Don't forget City Cafe. And, honestly, I think Innisfree has a good lunch.
Try Baumhowers Wings. Downtown Catch 22 and numerous breweries on University Blvd close to Embassy Suites. Best Bars off University Blvd on 4th and 23rd ... Rhythm & Brews Bar
If you guys ever come to north west Alabama (Florence, area) you should visit W.C. Handy Museum (famous musician, Florence was his birthplace) Helen Keller museum (in Tuscummbia), Fame Recording studios ( world famous, in muscle shoals) and the trail of tears Rock Wall. Alot of history in the Quad Cities (Florence, Tuscumbia, Sheffield, muscle Shoals)

Been to Tuscaloosa twice (alone) for Alabama games, stayed at the (yikes) Masters Inn, and found the people of Alabama from the rental car girl at the Birmingham airport to the girl in the kiosk booth at the entrance of the Masters Inn to be absolutely delightful, polite, and chatty. In fact, every one I met, and I’m a chatty person LOL…. from people in Bryant Denny stadium, fans, to retail workers in malls and bars were all really kind and polite. The humidity in September is nasty… but the people, especially those Southern gals, were wonderful to be around and talk to. And I’m from Canada.
