James Eugene Carrey is a Canadian-American actor, comedian and writer. Known for his energetic slapstick performances, Carrey first gained recognition in 1990, after landing a regular role in the American sketch comedy television series In Living Color. His first leading roles in motion pictures came with Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994), The Mask (1994), Dumb and Dumber (1994), and Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995), as well portraying the Riddler in Batman Forever (1995), and the lead role in Liar Liar (1997).

Would be interesting to see one on Robin Williams? He may be gone but never forgotten and how much of an impact he had on comedy and a lot of peoples childhood.
Edit: First off wow. Over 800 likes in two days. Second I love both actors and they bring a smile to everyone. Jim Carrey I have some memories of with mostly Grinch, Bruce Almighty and both Ace Ventura movies but I also remember Robin Williams a lot more because he was in a way a child like all of us. An imaginary friend that would always be there for you. Another career dive that would be a great tribute would be to Christopher Plummer who just passed away at 91.

@@austinburras2993 Will tried to go the Carrey/Williams route into dramatic acting roles with "Stranger Than Fiction" but it wasn't a hit and he went immediately back to goofball comedy. If he had stuck with it for a few more roles I think he would have broken through his image and made it.
He can do drama well, and he can act well. I hope he gives it another try because whatever the fuck it is he's doing now, is NOT working.

I know, right? Critics at the time said they were surprised at how bad his acting was in that film, failing to realise that Count Olaf is a bad actor, and Carrey's acting is so good he can portray a bad actor acticing badly so well that it's as if he himself is the bad actor. Genius.
Honestly, it's become trendy lately to hate on the 2004 movie in favor of the TV show cause "iT's NoT lIKE tHe BoOKs" (as a fan of the books, I can say that while it's not page-for-page accurate, the tone is a lot more accurate to them) and I'm just so glad Doug doesn't seem to hate it, too

I will say that nowadays, he's cleaned up from that odd "none of us matter" way of thinking. He was going through a period of flops, had someone close to him die and being blamed for it, etc, and it had a REALLY BAD effect on his mental health. Over the past couple of years, though, he seemed to... well... be okay. He seems to have gotten through that okay and ceased the odd philosophical talk.
Guess making a lot of political art helped...He is one odd fella.

Jim Carrey’s performance as Dr. Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehog Movie may have revitalized his career.
Expect him to be in another one or two big roles in the next couple of years.
Considering he played #46 himself during the debates and after the November election confirmed his victory, I say it'll be fun to see what else he'll be in
Yeah, and even though a lot of people gave the movie flak for it, I really respected what they did with his character to show how his own arrogance and obsession drove him to become Robotnik as he appears in the classic games by the end of the movie. I can't wait to see him again in the sequel!

The initial reaction to Jim Carrey's casting was generally one of complete bafflement, considering how he neither sounds nor looks anything like Dr. Eggman of the Sonic the Hedgehog games. It didn't help that Carrey's Hollywood movie career had been floating in shallow waters for the past six years, and his hiring was seen by some as Stunt Casting by a studio desperate for a big celebrity name to play the villain. *Post-release, it's widely agreed that Carrey absolutely nailed the character with his outrageously over-the-top, yet intimidating when necessary performance, and at times even sounds uncannily close to the gravelly-voiced character from the games.*
I grew up with both the original sonic games and my dad showing me Jim carrey, the mask, the Truman show, liar liar, and few others. I was born in the early 2000s so most of these movies my dad showed me via DVD. When I saw the original trailer(with furry sonic) I was at college and a group of us watched the trailer, the only thing we thought would be good is carrey as Eggman, despite the fact he doesnt really look like him. I do enjoy the movie and I'm glad they removed the furry sonic and made it better, but I love carrey performance.
I can hear a mix of Deem Bristow and Mike Pollock when he went gruff with the voice near the end.
That part was weird. There were times he actually sounded almost spot on to how Eggman sounds but it would only be for a few seconds at a time then he’d go back to Jim.
I thought it was his best movie in quite some time.

So true. People seem to think a great actor isn't truly great unless they get nominated for or win a lot of awards. Ridiculous.
I do agree, but I can see why actors hold it in such esteem. The Academy is your peers in acting and Hollywood, it's an affirmation from people that know exactly what goes into what you do. That said I personally just look at it as Hollywood jerking itself off and don't understand the mainstream hype, but I can understand someone actually in the industry thinking it's a big deal.

@@Deadhead-kq4hr Well, Robin had a rare disease that was gonna kill him within a few months and also make his life a living hell in the meanwhile. It wasn't Parkinson's. His wife made a statement that that was a misdiagnosis. It was something much worse. So I don't blame him for doing what he did while he was still able to.

@matt fahringer he said he would only talk about their personal lives and issue if it affected their careers, safe to say in Jim's case it hasn't. So there was no reason for Critic to bring them up

CR from Familiar Faces did one of the Best ones where he Got all dramatic and said something like “Look into the Abiss and See what your Soul shows you” or something like that I could be entirely wrong, And Then when he comedy back he’s all casual and like “What Did you get. I got a middle age mom telling PG rated jokes for Kraft Cheese”

I just have to say Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is one of my favourite films because it's so beautiful and so meaningful to me. The first time I fell in love in my freshman year of college, I watched that movie for the first time with my boyfriend and I cried and said, "Please don't forget about me no matter what happens" and then after we broke up, I worried that maybe he would try to forget and that I wouldn't have meant much to him. And then five years later, I was having a rough day and I saw him when I was getting lunch and he asked about my dog and my brother and about the novels I'd written and we talked about Eternal Sunshine again and I was so happy that even though we had both moved on that he still remembered everything. It made me feel like I mattered to him. I think that's why movies that deal with memory like Eternal Sunshine and Coco work so well- because we all want to feel like we mattered and when people remember us, it shows that. Sorry for rambling, but I just have a lot of feelings tied to that movie.

Actually, no. Robert Downey Junior had a pretty huge low and with his entry as Iron Man, brought him so goddamn high that he never has to act ever again in his life if he so wished. I think he had been close to death because he was into drugs and alcohol, but then got clean and was given the Iron Man job? I could've sworn he had a helluva low compared to Jim.

I'm still waiting for a "Birdman" type movie for Jim Carrey. An oscar-nominated drama that puts him back on the map as a dramatic actor and not just a comedic one. He's definitely capable of it.

Always loved Jim Carrey growing up in the 90s and early 2000s. Him, Eddie Murphy, and Robin Williams were the three most predominant comedic actors of my childhood and would love to see the last two pop up in this new series.

I did enjoy the editorials and rewatch them from time to time. And was hopefully they return in some way.
My feeling is that Doug really wants to move away from Nostalgia Critic, if not retire NC altogether and do some different things, but he's worried that his fans will abandon him if he does. It could also be that Mike Michaud doesn't want to lose NC out of fear that Channel Awesome will fall apart without the Critic at it's center. I say if Doug wants to end NC and try something else, he should go for it. He's been doing NC for years now, and his true fans will support whatever he chooses to do.
Plz do this series more often.

I've always found Jim Carrey a bit odd, but he still has talent, especially as Count Olaf because he plays a bad actor, but he still does a good job at it
Carrey's version of Olaf left enough of an impression that Neil Patrick Harris's portrayal in the Netflix adaptation borrowed some traits from him.

Honestly, robotnik is one of my favourite of his roles. It’s easily the most Carey he’s been in a while and does justice to the character. If eggman’s current voice actor left the role, I wouldn’t be surprised if Carey took on the role in the games, his performance is that good

Eh, that's because it was more less still Doug being Doug just with the NC costume. I'd argue when he does stuff like that, he's himself. When he's doing comedy reviews, that's when he's NC.
I agree, and you could argue that's the point of these editorial videos, but it does still feel different from when he posts a "Doug Reviews" video. I assume because these are scripted and the Doug as himself stuff is not.

When I first saw the "Icons" interview I had a similar reaction to Jim. I mean what the fuck, "we're celebrating icons"? Could you be more vague? What the hell does that even mean? Carrey was such a MASSIVE part of my childhood. I can't even count the amount of times I've watched The Mask, Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber, and Liar Liar growing up.
Ace Ventura is actually offensive these days… people thought making fun of transgender people was funny in 1994, but now people go as far as saying that it aged terribly just because it was offensive for the transgender people 🙄🙄🙄🙄

Jim Carrey should have his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I’m surprised he hasn’t gotten one. He’s a Hollywood icon.

Anyone else got shocked after discovering that the facial expressions of Carrey’s Grinch weren’t made by make up?
Honestly, no. I always figured it was Jim Carrey making those expressions, especially after watching both Ace Ventura movies.

What always shocked me more was that he was even *able* to do those expressions. Those face appliances are notoriously difficult to emote through convincingly but he managed to emote as if they wasn't there.

I just HAD to see that when it came out because it had Jim Carrey. It scared the crap out of me.
@@LadyOnikara I know that people like to say that Cable Guy was a flop, but it really wasn’t. He earned a $20 million pay for it which was unheard of at that time in 1996 for a comedic actor. He also won 2 MTV movie awards for it. So in reality it wasn’t as much of a dud as people like to say it is.
