    Why don't Sony pictures use Sony camera on big budget films?

    • @philjackson3281
      @philjackson3281 4 года назад +10

      Because Sony is usually only a distributor not the production company and DPs and directors get to decide what equipment they use.

      "only a distributor not the production company", do you mean that Sony doesn't produce it cameras?

    • @philjackson3281
      @philjackson3281 4 года назад +9

      @@Maximius38 Sony is a very large company with many smaller entities within it. It's cameras are made by Sony Electronics. They also have an entertainment brand called Sony Music and a production outfit called Sony Pictures Entertainment that produces and distributes television shows and movies. The entertainment side of the business really does not share anything with Sony Electronics. They basically operate as two different companies that have the same name. From an operational standpoint Sony Pictures Entertainment has nothing to do with Sony Electronics. This is why Sony Pictures Entertainment has no obligation to use Sony Electronics for anything. Also the industry does not work that way. Directors and producers generally decide what equipment they will use to make their movie or TV show. A distributor may lay out guidelines for deliverables (for example Netflix demands true 4K) but they will almost never demand a specific piece of equipment be used.

    A couple years ago I stopped looking up all the different cameras and lenses used on shows and movies, as I found a lot of the differences becoming negligible, for the most part, for everything shot digitally. Though, I could always tell when something was shot on RED, due to the uneven rendering of skin tones.
    However, when I recently watched 'Devs' in 4K, I noticed the scale and beauty of overhead shots, and just knew it wasn't either Arri or RED. I looked up the tech specs and the workflow of that project, and discovered the Sony Cinealta Venice. In my limited knowledge, this seems like the most 'complete' camera on the market. You get color science every bit as good as Arri, while having a larger sensor to work with that's more comparable to RED, while also still having something lighter than both the Arri 65 and the Arri LF.
    For me, and what I like personally, I think the only contender to this camera, would be the Arri Mini LF. Mainly because you still get the exceptional color of Arri, a decent enough sensor size, and lightweight that's more comparable to RED.

      TetraVaal, if James Cameron is using Sony Venice to shoot Avatar 2 and Avatar 3, this camera must be good.

      @@chuahhockleong9916 it must be a Great camera if the Avatar’s movies was shot with this Sony Venice. Wow I didn’t know that, that’s very comforting to know. I have always been a believer in Sony Quality!!! I have a Stackable Sony component Home Stereo Stereo system from 35 years ago and it still plays as good as the day it bought it. Very good quality, Love Sony products.
      I know this video is from a couple of Years ago. Is there anything newer or better than this Venice camera that Sony has come up with since then ?

    Great review on the Venice. I kinda laughed at your point about quick turn around with this camera and burning a LUT, but good to not for anyone who is thinking that. But really, an FS7 or FX9 are better suited for live event or quick turnaround. lol. But again, great review of a great camera.

    One of my dream cameras! Was this camera heavy to use? How was it for run and gun?
    I have a long way to go before i get this camera, but I'm going for it. Start small and even work my way up.

    • @peterfordDOP

      Keep on working away, and you'll get there for sure! - It was quite a hefty camera to use, especially with the raw module. It felt on par with the Arri Amira in terms of weight. I'd say slightly better suited for feature and commercial work, rather than ran and gun doc shooting.

    Hello Everyone, I d like to ask one question about the Sony VENICE Camera.
    If I shoot RAW 16 bit (RAW o OXCN ST) on the AXSM and ProRess HD on the SxS, can I transcodes(to save time) the file from Prores HD to DNxHD for avid being sure that those files will relink with the original 4k RAW footage? Thanks

    • @peterfordDOP
      @peterfordDOP 4 года назад

      Thats a good question. I can't see why that wouldn't work, but it would be worth testing the workflow before using it on a production

    I have a question for the camera guy / producer of this review:
    Hello Sir I’m asking this question actually with a High School Sports Program in mind. But this legitimate question could also apply for a broader scope for other school athletic programs. As well as colleges & universities doing live on-line classes.
    So here’s my Question(s):
    Is this Sony camera capable of, Or compatible to also be plugged into A iPhone or Laptop to stream the footage it’s recording Live to different social media or web address platforms ?
    Lets Say for example: An ACC, Big Ten, Ivey League or Other college Sports Program has a interest in A New one of these Camera’s...... But they needed it to put in their Press Boxes/announcement booths. Or perhaps needed it for an online classroom to film & live-stream the classes with.
    Does it have the capability to film/Record as well as transfer that live footage into a Laptop or IPhone to stream the game or online class footage Live in real Time ? ...... Lets say for example: If a High School, College, University wanted to live stream their games onto RUclips, Facebook or perhaps a pay to watch platform. Or if a Trade School College or University’s Dean or Professors wanted to live speeches or classes live in real time on a personal website to students at home on their devices....Does this camera have that capability to transfer that footage to a laptop or iPhone connected to the internet during a live stream ?
    I’m assuming it does have that capability to do that to a wired system. A wired system from which it’s coax wired into the internet. But Here’s the main part of my question does it have the capability to take the footage and transfer that footage live by means of being jump wired into a iPhone that is not hard wired into the internet but only being ran by satellite air waves ?
    It appears to be able to coax hard wire it into just about anything hard wired. But can it be broadcast live through a Laptop or Cell phone that’s not hard wired I guess is my main question ?

    Does this camera perform as poor as the FX9 in the tests ? poor latitude, and low .D .R ; 11.5 !!...... maybe thats why this test did not include non of them :)...... and this typical model, with no background, thi is not a test its a commersial .
