    I bought some cheap stock in shipping container building company 10 years ago. It died. But I still have no idea why something like this hasn't totally taken off. Architects have done an amazing job using shipping containers.

    I'm a Architect and I 1000% agree 👍👏 and even further... Containers are (at this point in time) "THE" short/long term solution ($) for homeless crisis around the world. Easy, affordable, fast, available, modern, resistant, eco friendly, you name it... Well done 👏👏👏

    Very nice. How about privacy. Are the walls thin?

  • @bellaggio1770
    @bellaggio1770 4 года назад +2

    If you cut the corrugated side walls of containers, they lose structural strength and you can no longer stack them 5 high without serious reinforcements. Perhaps this would be ok on the upper floor only.

    • @timhughesarchitect
      @timhughesarchitect  4 года назад

      Hi Nick L. Thank you for your comment. It is important the community understand this. Yes one does need to reinforce them if you plan to stack. You will see I have also kept sections of the original wall to help stabilise. But yes one does require an engineer to look at it.

    Is there a way to build an elevator for a building like this?

    • @timhughesarchitect
      @timhughesarchitect  3 года назад

      I am certain one could be planned in, although it would cost a bit to do it and affect the affordability.

    Wow, some greenwalls on the buildings could cheer up appartment complex instead of the dull Container look..
    But that's just me ;)
    Amazing concept by the way :)
    Hope its affordable, but where is the entrance?..

    • @timhughesarchitect
      @timhughesarchitect  6 лет назад

      Hi Morph Verse.
      Thank you for the compliments.
      Each block has 6 units per floor with five floors. The entrance is centrally in each block. You can see these in yellow arrows on the over all plan of the street.
      Hope this helps.

      @@timhughesarchitect great concept for a single person or 2 single people who can get along great, not so much a good concept for a family, i like how you guys are thinking outside the box and not going with what has always done. We as society i mean those of us not considered boomers need to get past what those did and use technology for the better.

    How about putting 2 more floors (7 total levels) with the 6th floor having two 3 bedroom units and the top floor being a PH?
    Just seems good to recoup as much as possible as fast as possible to start turning a profit faster.

    how much does a build like this cost?? and how much would it cost for everything??

    • @timhughesarchitect
      @timhughesarchitect  6 лет назад +3

      JOBEEHUSTLER we have not yet done a costing. I estimate it would be a third of normal building costs. But the savings on the environment and timing could be large.

    • @timhughesarchitect

      I have not done detailed costing. It would be best to talk to a cost estimator.

    where is elevator?

    • @timhughesarchitect
      @timhughesarchitect  5 лет назад +1

      Hi elclon457! We didn't have elevators because they are costly items when it only serves 12 units at a time. They are also a safety and maintenance issue and in an affordable housing situation would not be viable. There are many places around the world where 4-5 storey walk ups do exist and do work. That said our current creation in the US does have lifts. Hope that helps.
