There's three different versions of this story: it was a legit accident, it was JLC improvising, and it was Curtis and Cameron changing things and not telling Arnold.
The Fall that Jamie Lee Curtis did in the bedroom scene at the hotel was an accident she wasn't supposed to fall but James Cameron like it so much he kept it in.

@@susannariera Well the scene itself wasn't what was controversial. It was the fact that Harry abused his position as a spy to make his wife do the things she did to a stranger for all she knew. Also by the way I'm not agreeing one way or another, just stating there was actually a controversy
@@cosesu8929 ok, maybe where you live, but not where I live. I've never heard about any controversy related to this movie until this reaction. And I'm 50 y/o.
30 years later. Can you believe it? A lovely piece of work by the great James Cameron. The first-ever $100 million budget in film history and an remake of a French short film from France called "La Totale!" (1991). Bigger than average and that worked like a charm. It's exactly what it's suppose to be. The laughs and thrills are on the same level. Arnold personally wanted Jamie Lee Curtis at top billing as the lead actress. Because her character meant as much to the story as her husband's did. The studio changed their tune pre-release and did put her name with Arnie's. She also won a Golden-Globe for her performance. The late Bill Paxton in his 3rd film with both Cameron and Schwarznegger, him as Simon the fakea** was quite the performance. Also the late, great Charlton Heston as the boss of the Omega sector resembled classic Nick Fury (homage to Marvel). Prior to this film, Cameron was originally involved with Spider-Man becoming a film which had the industry losing their minds. There was gonna be a True Lies 2 as one of Schwarzenegger's last films in a planned retirement from the lime light. It was cancelled because of 9/11 and all the things that affected Hollywood films in the aftermath. Cameron & Schwarzenegger would reunite for the direct sequel to T2, Terminator:Dark Fate (2019). True Lies was a short-lived tv series, one season (2023) on CBS. I wasn't into watching it because nothing was more awesome than the movie itself.
That Jamie Lee dancing scene was a true awakening for younger me. And this movie is always super fun. It's over the top and cheesy, but I enjoy how it has moments where it's serious, but other times it really lays into the comedy. It's just a ton of fun and very memorable.
Arnold S. was the first of the action heroes to use those one liners, starting with "I'll be back" in Terminator. After that, became known for it. The "your fired" line was said before The Apprentice was even on the air.
He is the only guy killed by the big 3, but Lance Hendrickson also faced them. He was the cop Vukovich in Terminator, Bishop in Aliens, and Weyland in AVP. Bishop was an android and so survived the Alien Queen's attack.
Arnold Schwarzenegger & Sylvester Stallone poke jabs at each other in their movies, sometime a line, sometimes a poster in the background but it's always there. Look for it & you'll see it.
They had to cast Charlton Heston as Arnold’s boss as no one else would be believable as getting angry against Arnie and being authoritative against such a giant and it works somehow
This movie is what you get when you have a great story-teller, in his prime, direct what would otherwise be a pretty cliche action comedy. It's the peak of the genre. James Cameron could have done plenty of these types of movies if he wasn't busy trying to revolutionize cinema. All the comedy is physical and timeless. The action looks and sounds terrific. And the cast is A+. It's not even a top 25 movie for me but it's very much great cinema.
People back then thought it was misogynistic because harry abused his power to get his wife to do what he wanted. It was also criticized by the Muslim community because of how i5 portrayed the villains
@@cosesu8929 I watched the movie in the theaters “back then” and to say it was controversial during that time is simply untrue. Halfway through the reaction I felt like if I heard “blah-blah - a ‘90’s movie” one more time I was gonna “go postal”. That’s ‘90’s slang for “losing my sh*t!”
The US Marine Corps was actually in the movie, when the bridge is taken out. Those are actual sidewinder missiles taking out a section of the old key west bridge that was going to be destroyed anyway. Also the prop harrier jet that Arnold Elizia were in was reused in the first Avengers movie. It’s the jet the Hulk crashed into when Thor hit him.
Dude, you’re not even close. The bridge explosion was all miniatures. Also, sidewinders would put a small dent in the concrete. In the movie they used Maverick missiles. But again, they didn’t use missiles to destroy the bridge.
Fun Fact: The story about the Ice Cube tray was based on fact. Tom Arnold was married to Roseanne Barr & she took Tom's ice cube trays out of his freezer in a petty move during the divorce at the time of filming 🤣 😂
I know Arnold’s accent can be thick at times but, really? Ridiculous how Aaron’s brain went to “pillow”. They also couldn’t make out “bright boy” when he’s calling in the nuclear bomb to the authorities.
Such heartwarming to know that when James Cameron asked Arnold would it be a good idea to put Jamie’s name next to his on the opening credits? Immediately replied yes and since then Jamie has always been thankful for it because it was one of her biggest roles.
I’m not joking, I was watching other people’s reactions to this film (since it doesn’t get a lot of love these days), and I was wondering “when are the Reel Rejects gonna react to this?” My prayers are answered!!! 😇
I think "you're fired" was used in The Flintstones. The cartoon, not the movie. With Mr. Slate yelling it at full volume, firing Fred at regular intervals. And long before that.

This movie is so fun. I forgot it was rated R. I remember seeing this at the drive-in in a double billing with Speed. Crazy that my parents let me watch this since I was 9 when it came out.
This is one of my favourite Arnold movies (along with Kindergarten Cop, Terminator 2 and Eraser and I’m so happy Roxy and Aaron are watching it. It’s so over the top and campy I just love it.
14:56 I think Aaron said this jokingly as in it’s such an outlandish concept but as an old man I can verify, yes everyone smoked everywhere in the 90s.
One of the funniest romantic action comedy movies ever made! There was a TV show based on the movie that premiered on CBS but it was cancelled due to low ratings as well as the infamous Hollywood Writers Strike in 2023.
Great to see this film again through you guys. Last time I saw it was in the theater. Arnold was absolutely dominating Hollywood with these action flicks. This one is a special brand of fun. Thanks for the reaction!!
Arnie and Paxton were friends irl. Paxton was also in Terminator one opening scene. As well as a small role in Commando. Bill finally having a much bigger role in True Lies. I wish they had more together it’s an awesome contrast. Like a buddy cop movie.
People thought it was misogynistic the way harry abused his power. It was also criticized bybthe Muslim community because of how it portrayed the villains
Fun fact: Arnold struggled to get this scene right at 53:58. In the blooper reels it shows him attempting this stunt multiple times because he kept dropping the rifle.
Eliza Dushku was actually 12 years old when they filmed this movie in 1993 because she was born in 1980 and she didn’t turn 13 in 1993 until December when they filmed the movie and then was 13 years old when it came out in 1994 the following year
The chemistry with Jamie and Arnie is so fun. I am shocked there was never a follow up to this. It is so beloved by so many people. Totally a FUN FUN time in the theaters.

I don’t know if they still are, but Jamie Lee’s legs used to be insured 20m a piece… she was also the ‘legs’ model for Leggs stockings… Arnold telling her to remove her nylons was hilarious…
As a long time Arnold fan, since around 1990, I'm pretty sure Arnold didn't do nearly ANY of his own stunts. His physical health and body were his livelihood, and the dude was working way too much to afford an injury of any kind. It's pretty apparent in a lot of his older movies when stunt doubles were used. Arnold's figure was pretty tough to replicate.
The stunt where he's hanging over the side of the hotel is real, & there's no net & no safety harness. There was a rigged stuntman but the horse had other plans & threw Arnold over the side before the stuntman got on for the shot. Arnold wasn't worried, he has the strength to hang on for hours, probably with one hand. After getting the horse to back up & Arnold to safety. James Camron and the crew needed to take a break, so they could all go change their underwear.
@@lizzymayethebordercollie I have a friend that is currently a co host for segments on one of the networks regarding gems and jewelry. The networks were a brilliant idea for the time pre Amazon. It had a chokehold on older ladies, my grandmother would watch that for hours daily.

The “you’re fired” line is strictly done as a final zinger of a line to the bad guy because Arnold was firing a missile with him on it. Arnold is known for having several catchphrases and lines from movies. Take, for instance, when he said “cool off” to the guy he killed or knocked out in the urinal and flushed it on him. He also has so many other lines in his movies: “Stick around” “Get to the choppa!” “You see to be sub-zero, now you’re just plain zero.” “I’ll be back.” And so many more. The phrase “you’re fired” is one that has existed for decades or longer and existed long before movies and tv started using it. Trump didn’t start using it as a catchphrase until The Apprentice show, which started in the mid-to-late-00’s, long after this movie. It’s just a common phrase used in business to let someone go, like Roxy was saying originally.

@cosesu8929 don't be so sensitive. You have to calm down. It's just a movie buddy.
@@Trama316 Talk about being sensitive. You're the one who took offense at them saying it was controversial in the first place. I was just letting you know you were wrong and ignorant tool.
Impossible with this society now. 😂
@@cosesu8929it would have only been controversial by mental midgets who's opinions can be outright dismissed based on how stupid and irrelevant they are.
fun fact the pole dancing scene was improvised by jlc and the reaction from arnie when she fell was legit because she did really fell XD
And she did a great job with the scene too! But Arnie's reaction to the fall was real!
She did really *fall*
She and Cameron planned that, but they didn't tell Arnold.
Another Fun Fact: The moment Arnold smashes the car window saying "Give me the God damn page!!" Is totally real. Arnold smashed the wrong window!! 😂😂
“This is very 90s” had to have been said 100 times
I agree it’s always very 80s or very 90s news flash younger people a lot has happened on this planet before you were born and will continue to after 😂 like wtf
It's said in every movie reaction. Ugh
Someone is misremembering. It was Eliza Dushku that is the controversial story. A young Eliza at 12 years old was inappropriately touched & sexually assaulted by Joel Kramer, a leading stunt coordinator on the film horrifically.
Dushku said at the time she told her parents, two adult friends and an older brother about what had happened, adding that no one “seemed ready to confront this taboo subject then & nor was she.
Only the female adult friend eventually confronted Kramer. After that Eliza insists he hurt her preparing a stunt that went wrong on purpose, hurting her back in punishment & leading to her breaking her ribs, she considers this "no small coincidence"
Jamie Lee was confided in by Eliza only in the last 10-15 years & she was horrified & James Cameron said if he had known there "would have been no mercy"
Arnold always had puns in his movies like "Stick Around" or "Don't disturb my friend he's Dead Tired"
“Ice to meet you” 😂
“Let off some steam Bennett!”
Controversial? When? Where? How? Lol😂😂😂 whoever told you that, they told you a true lie!!!
Back when it came out it was called misogynistic, especially Harry abusing his power towards his wife. It was also criticized by the Muslim community because of how it portrayed the villains
@@cosesu8929 I saw the movie when it came out, the dance scene, at least in Europe, was considered sexy and hilarious.

This is one of Tom Arnold's best roles.
Well Said.
Charlton Heston's greatest 90s cameo has to be Wayne's World 2.
That Jamie Lee dancing scene was a true awakening for younger me. And this movie is always super fun. It's over the top and cheesy, but I enjoy how it has moments where it's serious, but other times it really lays into the comedy. It's just a ton of fun and very memorable.
Not them pulling the tapes 😂😂😂😂
Saw this in the cinema and many times since. Not once in my life have I ever heard anything about this movie being "Controversial"
Arnold S. was the first of the action heroes to use those one liners, starting with "I'll be back" in Terminator. After that, became known for it. The "your fired" line was said before The Apprentice was even on the air.
Saying "the simplest cameron opening credits ever" and missing the most complex a second later. LOL.
Rip Bill, the only guy who faced an alien, a predator, and a terminator.
And a spy 😅
He is the only guy killed by the big 3, but Lance Hendrickson also faced them. He was the cop Vukovich in Terminator, Bishop in Aliens, and Weyland in AVP. Bishop was an android and so survived the Alien Queen's attack.
And a twister
"I married Rambo," was my favourite.
The eyepatch also made him look EXACTLY like the version of Nick Fury in Marvel Comics at the time.
Eliza Dushku also played the character of Faith in the tv series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"
Of course we didn't know who she was back then. Even after Buffy I never realized that was her until I was re-watching the movie again.
And the lead in the series Dollhouse
@@Zaxbox yeah. She was barely 14 when she made this movie and was still sporting a bit of “baby fat” in the face. She also hadn’t fully matured yet.
@@chrisf5828 and also Tru.
R.I.P. Bill Paxton. He was one of my favorite actors.
whoever told Roxy & Aaron that there is a "controversial scene with Jamie Lee Curtis" did them a terrible disservice
I challenge anyone to find any review (professional or otherwise) published in 1994 that called that scene misogynistic. That word may reflect 2024 views but not 1994 views.
@@cosesu8929 No, that was not a thing back then except for a tiny minority of hard left wing loons and groups who bitch about anything that doesn't present them in a positive light. Audiences loved the movie which is why it's embraced as a classic today. And who could have a problem with who portrayed the terrorists? Who kidnapped Americans in Iran in the late 70s? Who hijacked planes throughout the 80s? Who bombed the Marine barracks in Beirut in 83? Who bombed the Trade center in 93? Who was involved in the 9/11 attacks? The Swedish? The Catholics??? LOL It's not like True Lies is some far fetched racist propaganda flick. You're not going to convince anyone who didnt live back then that we were uptight like today's Gen Zers. And all of us who were adults when this came out are going to know you're full of shit because we saw it in theaters when it was released. LOL
Halfway through the reaction I felt like if I heard “blah-blah - a ‘90’s movie” one more time I was gonna “go postal”. That’s ‘90’s slang for “losing my sh*t!”
That’s sooooo 90s lol
Always makes me smile. So many reactors, so many reactions: That thing from the 90s looks so 90s. Uh... yeah... it sure does. :)
Hahahaha....
So not true.
Bullshit. It was miniatures and VFX. The way that scene in particular was filmed was on multiple special FX shows for most of the 90s.
Fun Fact: The story about the Ice Cube tray was based on fact. Tom Arnold was married to Roseanne Barr & she took Tom's ice cube trays out of his freezer in a petty move during the divorce at the time of filming 🤣 😂
"...pillar of holy fire..." Pillow of holy fire?🤣
I know Arnold’s accent can be thick at times but, really? Ridiculous how Aaron’s brain went to “pillow”.
They also couldn’t make out “bright boy” when he’s calling in the nuclear bomb to the authorities.
"maybe she's an agent too"
Thats "Mr. & Mrs. Smith".
Well, she did become an agent.
Such heartwarming to know that when James Cameron asked Arnold would it be a good idea to put Jamie’s name next to his on the opening credits? Immediately replied yes and since then Jamie has always been thankful for it because it was one of her biggest roles.
The old man, in the bathroom, was constipated before Arnold arrived.
I’m not joking, I was watching other people’s reactions to this film (since it doesn’t get a lot of love these days), and I was wondering “when are the Reel Rejects gonna react to this?”
My prayers are answered!!! 😇
I wish I skipped this one sadly. Ty to Aarron for saving it.
I think "you're fired" was used in The Flintstones. The cartoon, not the movie. With Mr. Slate yelling it at full volume, firing Fred at regular intervals. And long before that.
Telling her that we not only whistle in the bathroom, but whistle together, is diabolical. 🤣🤣
She didn't skip a beat though lol

This movie is so fun. I forgot it was rated R. I remember seeing this at the drive-in in a double billing with Speed. Crazy that my parents let me watch this since I was 9 when it came out.
This is one of my favourite Arnold movies (along with Kindergarten Cop, Terminator 2 and Eraser and I’m so happy Roxy and Aaron are watching it. It’s so over the top and campy I just love it.
The guy in the bathroom fight is a training buddy of Arnold, but he has to be massive to make Arnold look physically normal.
“It’s that yogurt.” 😂

Charlton Hestion didnt die till 2008 his last movie was 2003

She really did that scene with the helicopter! Should look it up when she talks about it being so fun! :P
He also has so many other lines in his movies:
“Stick around”
“Get to the choppa!”
“You see to be sub-zero, now you’re just plain zero.”
“I’ll be back.”
And so many more.
Every time i have no battery on a device i always quote "Battery Aziz"!!!
Favourite bit of this movie is Arnie saying BYE to Jamie Lee at the end
