This is and will be highly collectible piece. Rolex has a finite supply left of the Gibeon meteorite and once that runs out, all of these pieces will be worth a few hundred thousand USD at least. Also, if you think about the original name Rolex gave this model - Cosmograph - fitting a meteorite dial on the Daytona is like a little nod to this history
That's possible... probably most of them - as all the other hundreds of thousand Rolex watches - will end up on the parallel market, instead of being sold to potential customers in the store for the list price... Greedy business is the driving force today!

I’m sure when I go downtown after lockdown Alexander I shall see these and other models in the dealers windows and as usual marked “for display only” on them. It seems crazy to me that a mass manufactured watch such as Rolex does this. Love the brand, don’t love that in the real world you’ll have to instantly pay Grey market prices for watches such as this. A pox on flippers and Grey market dealers! I think I would simply pop over to the Chopard boutique and instantly buy one of their stunning haute horology Alpine Eagles instead for much less money! Stay well and hopefully when lockdown ends and cafes open again sometime in the summer I can buy you that coffee I long ago promised!

The white gold Daytona was on my radar before, but I was hoping they would put the glidelock on it this year because it makes getting the fitting go smoother. I liked it with the steel dial, like it even more with the meteorite dial but the glidelock should be there. The sky dweller got a glidelock on its oysterflex, why not the Daytona?

If the AD guesses wrong, or if a client is between sizes, then it’s a potential problem. The fact Rolex put glidelock on the sky dweller (not a dive watch) on oysterflex shows a clasp with a glidelock is more adaptable to clients and the variations in their wrist sizes. This is an issue for some that live in different climates. People that buy $40k watches often fly around a bit more than people who live in a single place...the multiple home syndrome).
@@WatchAdvisor the AD is always willing but the back and forth of a customer coming back and not liking the fit that might have been ok in the store but wasn’t so nice on the beach creates friction. The glidelock has a wider range to be allow imperfect judgement by the AD (and a flip flopping mood in the customer).

Hello Alexander. Is the meteorite dial a white dial or silver from 5 feet away? Can you see and appreciate the meteorite’s texture from 5 feet away or is it just white from a far?
Depending on the type/intensity of light that falls on the dial it appears from white to grey and depending on the angle light falls on it you will either see more art less of the typical "texture" ... The dial though is always recognizable as a meteorite dial and does never appear "cheap" ...
@@kristinabraly I have a 6" wrist and I got a chance to try on an exhibition model of this reference. The Daytona as a whole is pretty friendly to small wrists. The oysterflex makes it even more so since the solid end link is gone. It's an absolute banger of a reference.
You must see the Daytona and its dial in real! The more light conditions you will be able to discover the chronograph, the more you will like this execution ...

Nice enough watch Rolex certainly pack a lot into such a small case. Bet it wears very well but this is a lottery win for most people and only available if you spend a fortune at an AD to nudge up the pecking order or are willing to spend way over the list price on the grey market; in other words only the very rich need apply, just how Rolex like it.

Alexander. Das Gleiche ist mir bei einem Düsseldorfer AD passiert. Habe dort vor etwa 6 Jahren eine Nautilus bestellt, sollte 1-1.1/2 Jahre dauern. Die wurde damals noch wenig über Neupreis gehandelt. Letztes Jahr sagte man mir, wenn ich noch einen Jahreskalender dazu kaufe, besteht die Möglichkeit das ich eine bekomme. Habe ich natürlich nicht gemacht. Jetzt ist die Uhr eingestellt. Für mich stellt sich natürlich auch die Frage, wenn ich den Jahreskal. gekauft hätte, würde ich die Nautilus noch bekommen? Sorry to say but I think the meteorite dial fits a more full steel bracelet version with a ceramic bezel. This one is a bit meh... I saw this in person at Watch and Wonders Shanghai and was quite disappointed to be honest.
Where is de calendar Or only day. Its too necesary check the date...and 40 mm diameter ..too small for my wrist....I not agree to pay an astronomic amount of mony for a watch that not offer essential features...
I challenge you to give us an answer from rolex Geneva about rolex AD games and what they gonna do to many of them when they dumping their stock into asian grey market dealers!
Rolex is "only" a manufacturer of watches and does not sell the watches. ADs sell the watches and decide who gets them, this is also clearly mentioned on the Rolex website. So Rolex does not comment on this issues. You (everybody should!) need to blame the greedy ADs instead and tell them NOT to fool you and play these SILLY games with you. It is them causing all these troubles and it is them who clearly created this system that you cant get any Rolex for a regular retail price...

Rolex is NOT selling any watches. Only ADs are selling Rolex watches. Of course Rolex can't satisfy the demand for sport watches, but Rolex is NOT limiting the supply at all. The demand is higher than the production! BUT some greedy ADs do not sell all the desired watches delivered to them to their clients coming into the front door and/or play some absolute ridiculous and silly games with potential clients. Through the "backdoor" watches that could be sold for regular list prices go through known flippers to the usual suspects - the grey market dealers. By therewith dramatically limiting access to watches for normal prices to normal customers an artificial parallel universe is/was created that enables all participants to earn some nice extra money outside the official Rolex dealership ecosystem. How? By selling new and unworn Rolex watches for absolute ridiculous overprices since demand is so high. This artificial parallel universe is/was NOT/NEVER created by Rolex! This is/was created by some GREEDY ADs and their network behind! So do not blame Rolex for not delivering enough of the very best Swiss mechanical wristwatches to ADs, blame some of the latter for NOT selling them to you for the official list price! How can we stop this? Either Rolex starts selling these desired watches online and guarantees everyone wanting one with a fully visible/transparent waiting list that he will get his watch after a fair/reasonable waiting time or you all must STOP paying overprices for a Rolex watch and/or accept that ADs play ridiculous games with you...
Rolex is not limiting the supply though! The demand exceeds the production for sure and on top a lucrative parallel universe was created... This what you read on the Rolex website, I quote and unquote: "MODELS AVAILABILITY All Rolex watches are assembled by hand with the utmost care to ensure exceptional quality. Such high standards naturally restrict our production capacity and, at times, the demand for our watches outpaces this capacity. Therefore, the availability of certain models may be limited. New Rolex watches are exclusively sold by Official Rolex Retailers, who receive regular deliveries and independently manage the allocation and sales of watches to customers. Official Rolex Retailers can provide information on the availability of Rolex watches."

Sorry to say but I think the meteorite dial fits a more full steel bracelet version with a ceramic bezel. This one is a bit meh...

Where is de calendar Or only day. Its too necesary check the date...and 40 mm diameter ..too small for my wrist....I not agree to pay an astronomic amount of mony for a watch that not offer essential features...

I challenge you to give us an answer from rolex Geneva about rolex AD games and what they gonna do to many of them when they dumping their stock into asian grey market dealers!
Rolex is "only" a manufacturer of watches and does not sell the watches. ADs sell the watches and decide who gets them, this is also clearly mentioned on the Rolex website. So Rolex does not comment on this issues. You (everybody should!) need to blame the greedy ADs instead and tell them NOT to fool you and play these SILLY games with you. It is them causing all these troubles and it is them who clearly created this system that you cant get any Rolex for a regular retail price...
@@WatchAdvisor Any chance you could do a video addressing this issue Alexander? So many people on the Internet are convinced that Rolex are limiting supply of stainless steel sports models on purpose to make the brand more exclusive while turning a blind eye to the grey dealers situation.
Rolex is NOT selling any watches. Only ADs are selling Rolex watches. Of course Rolex can't satisfy the demand for sport watches, but Rolex is NOT limiting the supply at all. The demand is higher than the production! BUT some greedy ADs do not sell all the desired watches delivered to them to their clients coming into the front door and/or play some absolute ridiculous and silly games with potential clients. Through the "backdoor" watches that could be sold for regular list prices go through known flippers to the usual suspects - the grey market dealers. By therewith dramatically limiting access to watches for normal prices to normal customers an artificial parallel universe is/was created that enables all participants to earn some nice extra money outside the official Rolex dealership ecosystem. How? By selling new and unworn Rolex watches for absolute ridiculous overprices since demand is so high. This artificial parallel universe is/was NOT/NEVER created by Rolex! This is/was created by some GREEDY ADs and their network behind! So do not blame Rolex for not delivering enough of the very best Swiss mechanical wristwatches to ADs, blame some of the latter for NOT selling them to you for the official list price! How can we stop this? Either Rolex starts selling these desired watches online and guarantees everyone wanting one with a fully visible/transparent waiting list that he will get his watch after a fair/reasonable waiting time or you all must STOP paying overprices for a Rolex watch and/or accept that ADs play ridiculous games with you...

IMHO this is somehow a Daytona 2.0 when worn in white gold with Oysterflex bracelet ...
@@WatchAdvisor You're right on that indeed, it has a much different and more modern feel with the oysterflex, i do think the cushions make the "bracelet" sit a bit high tho.The steel Daytona is overrated i think too, the small outdated case and lugs... Cheers

@@WatchAdvisor and still i think they do :) i own the 116518LN and this is the only flaw to me. The Bracelet sticks out a bit because of the cushions and is because of it in total a bit thicker on the wrist.
