They're only winglets when it's taxiing on the ramp. The cooler part is watching them fold out into a (more) giant wing as the aircraft prepares for takeoff. Data point to ponder: the OG 747 went from first flight to EIS in 347 days. As of this writing, 18 May 2024, the average time from first flight of the 737 Max 7, 737 Max 10, and 777-9X, is 1,632 days, with no end to certification, or EIS, in sight or even predicted.
They are not winglets, its folding (raked) wingtip to fit inside the standard "box" at airport parking. Folding gives the option of using standard gates to satisfy wingtip clearance rules.
The 777X must be the newest and greatest version of the 777. It probably has the best and most up to date features. Meanwhile, I hope that Boeing will figure out what is wrong with the 737 MAX.
The max is another aircraft. Shouldn’t affect this type to enjoy when it finally goes into passenger service. Unless of course Boeing still doesn’t get its act together.

Airlines are putting A380s back into service, because they need the capacity. The 777X is the right plane. Folding wings have been on planes since the 1930s and beyond.
I'm not sure what it is, but something just always seems to look "off" about this aircraft. Not sure if it's the proportions or the wing conformation or what but it looks awkward to me. I much prefer the A350 in terms of aesthetic appeal.

Yes, this is due to the lack of "clean sheet" design, which is what the A350 was. Sadly, Boeing is at a disadvantage when it comes to airframe innovation.
