I didn't know I needed this video. I use blender to find poses and couldn't understand why limbs and stuff would just fly all over the place. THANK YOU!
Well explained and not too technical for a layman 😊,funny how some animators always blame the rig or software for gimble locks and not their poor planing..🤗oh and Thanks for your emphasis on Planning 🧘🏽♀️🙏🏾
Thanks for the great explanation - including how to choose the best rotation order. In Blender the Rigify add-on provides a tool "Convert Rotation Modes". It supports Euler to Quaternion or vice-versa. By doing a two step conversion I was able to switch from Euler XYZ to Euler XZY and convert existing actions.
@@RobynO_O It's not just for Rigify rigs. I'm actually testing it out on a mutant rig from Mixamo, to which I've added basic face/eye controls. It also works with multiple actions in the NLA - though I suggest you verify the conversion doesn't do anything strange before you save your file.
When I took 3D Animation I at my university I had this happen a few times when trying to narrow down broader movement, I hysterically laugh out loud when it happens. The results produced are worth the extra time to correct them. Edit: if this happens go into your graph editor and smooth out your animation curves, cleans it up quickly. If not delete a few keys and rekey the movement.
@@RobynO_O IDK, haha... I have been avoiding it as its so expensive, even the indie license is expensive. They do have a non-commercial version. I was mainly curious if I need to invest the time into learning it. So far it seems most people are just using Substance Painter. I guess with the opening of time that I have coming up in spring (April) I can finally get into animation. yay!
I'm using the HumanIk rig for a class and I have the Wrists set to being Ik. Gimbal Lock seems to be a much bigger problem when trying to Animate this way... Would appreciate some coverage on this if possible...
Best GImbal Lock VIdeo seen to date - and Ive seen a dozen at this point.
awesome, that's great to hear :)
I'm a programmer and this is the most intuitive euler gimbal lock explanation
Awesome, glad to hear it !
I've seen a few gimbal lock videos and I have to say this is the most well explained one.
Thanks for explaning about the quaternion too❤❤❤
you're welcome!
Thank you for this very informative video. I did actually not know it was a thing, but now I do. Thx a bunch.
You're welcome, glad it was informative!
What a well explained video! Well done
Glad you liked it! Thank you!
This is so informative. Thank you!

You're welcome! I'm really glad I could help you figure out the problem!
Great explanation of gimbal lock. Thanks!
no problem 😊
This is helpful.Thank you for your sharing
You're welcome!
Thanks so much for posting this! I was looking for when you would release this video, and I'll try to plan out the rotations before hand now
Hopefully it helps with your animation (not hopefully actually - it definitely should ha ha)

Thanks Nonhlanhla, that's great to hear ! And yes, planning is soooo important in so many ways!
This was an issue with the Apollo project for navigation to the moon. They needed a fourth gimbal but weight was an issue.
Whaaat that’s so interesting !

Whoa that's cool ! I had no idea . Wish it wasn't just for rigify rigs though, but nevertheless, still good to know

@@MarkStead oh wow that's awesome !
Awesome as always
thanks!

Thanks Robyn! always good to have a refresher on Gimbal Lock. I wonder, have you ever run into a case where you had to use Mari for client work?
I actually haven't ever used it, is it any good ?

that was brill thank you

At 4:27, for the ZYX configuration, why does Z appear to be the middle child? Shouldn't it be Y?

I like your hair color.
