Thank you for posting videos with little to no "fluff" It really feels like you are trying to help people rather than "get views" I am gonna be starting on my coding journey this weekend and hope to go from a food industry worker of 10 years to a mega developer by June. Going to be difficult and a grind but greatly appreciate your videos mapping out the resources out there to learn a new skill.
@Smoljames I just found your channel and wanted to thank you for the hard work many of us will benefit from. Also, a big plus in points for your excellent selection of novels on your bookshelf!
Hey James! so im currently a part time worker while trying to do real estate for about a year / half. I've not had good success and kind of feel lost. I have always been really into computers and tech on a basic level and i just bought your course and I'm planning to start my journey to learn to code and become a software developer. I don't know a lot yet but I'm willing to learn so here we go!
This is gold! Thank you! I'm learning html and css and eventually Javascript as a 42 year old Dad of two in full time employment working on an IT Service Desk. I'm so relieved I found this channel. If I could just overcome the imposter syndrome, then I know I can do this.
@jgp9260 Finally, a comment about someone who is also a father, and working as Help Desk. That's currently me, except I just turned 29 a few months ago. Just about getting started on this journey, may I ask how your journey has been going for you?
cool stuff James, I would like to suggest you to do a video about after finally landing a job, what were your expectations and what was/is your experience in the industry, your insight would be valuable to alot of people
Hey James, would you happen to have a video or any material that goes more in depth on the comment/catalog process you mentioned around @14:30 in the video?
Hey James, I can tell you put in a lot of effort to edit this video. Your roadmap is very helpful, would you recommend listing JavaScript and/or HTML & CSS as technical skills on my resume while I'm in the process of learning these languages or after I have learned the basics?
Hey friend :P I try my best haha - and yep good question. I would absolutely put them in your resume while you're in the process of learning them. No harm in being a bit optimistic and you'll know them soon enough!
Random feedback here, but from a video optimisation POV you should add cards/clickable links in your video to link out to each of the videos you talk about/mention. Many people like me would likely right click open in new tab and watch that video next. It should also increase your watchtime stats by funneling viewers into your own videos rather than someone elses
Hey James, I have a question. When doing a project that starts out as a tutorial, should I be placing it inside a public or private Github repo? You wouldn't want a potential employer to see the earliest stages of what will eventually become your amazing project before you've tweaked it, pulled it apart and made it your own. Also, if you have other tutorials with commented notes that you've made, shouldn't at least some of those notes be private? Let me know what you think. 🤔
Great question - I wouldn't worry about making it private as by the time you're finished, the code will look very customized and personal, and it's highly unlikely that they'll go through you commit logs haha!
Thanks a lot for your effort to teach us how to land a job! Is Typescript an essential tool for companies or giving applicants an advantage if they have? You didn't mention in the both videos iirc.
You are correct and it's a good question! The main reason I haven't spoken about it is because it really hasn't been a requirement on my path as much as everything else mentioned in the videos has been. I'd categorize it more as a nice-to-have rather than an essential :P But that's just my opinion, and I'm sure others would prioritize it more so and consequently I definitely recommend learning it given the chance.
I think i picked up firebase from a tutorial and it was probably the same for the ecommerce site haha. But they would have given me the skeleton and then I adapted it from there :P
I'm a 16 year old from India, well my plan is to master some coding program and do projects and deploy it in my portfolio for the next 2 years. Once I turn 18 can I get accepted by companies? If foreign companies can I work from home as a 18 year or 19 or 20 based on the situation I get but with/without a degree
I'd say it's a nice to have but not necessary - it didn't really assist me much outside of python being a good language to know for backend development haha
Good question! Mainly because I still think it has a long way to go. The main way I would incorporate it into the learning workflow is to help you with idea generation and also with concept explanations when needed :P
You're the man James! Thanks for the help and support via Discord.
Haha cheers for the comment broski :P

You got this my friend :P I might have to make a video about imposter syndrome I think cause it can be quite the challenge to overcome!
@Smoljames That would be really appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my comment! Best of luck, bud.
Ive started this journey as well as a 42yr old Dentist…I find the coding to be so relaxing compared to working on human beings all day….its a grind

Always appreciate the motivation. Gotta pick myself back up and get at it again.

Cheers mate :P
what website is that @12:40?
www.ai-ltr.smoljames.com
Can you please make a video on how can we improve our communication skills if English is not my first language. Thanks
That's a great idea I would love to :P

@@Smoljames tysm for the detailed answer! ☺
Hey man, how did you learn Firebase & The ecommerce site with React + Firebase?
I think i picked up firebase from a tutorial and it was probably the same for the ecommerce site haha. But they would have given me the skeleton and then I adapted it from there :P
@@Smoljames Great, can you please tell me whose tutorial it was? :(
I'm a 16 year old from India, well my plan is to master some coding program and do projects and deploy it in my portfolio for the next 2 years. Once I turn 18 can I get accepted by companies? Hey broski :P The most important thing is that you've got some work to show everybody and then you have every chance at getting a job!
@@Smoljames you mean, my portfolio and projects?
I've read the whole wheel of time series. 🎉
Didn't love the Amazon show. Still watched it though 😅
Love to hear it :D It's a great series! Proud of you for watching the show tho cause I couldn't stick to it haha
Do you think DSA is still important for an interview?
I'd say it's a nice to have but not necessary - it didn't really assist me much outside of python being a good language to know for backend development haha
Hey James you didn’t mention about the the place of chat gpt and AI in the process of learning full stack web development
Good question! Mainly because I still think it has a long way to go. The main way I would incorporate it into the learning workflow is to help you with idea generation and also with concept explanations when needed :P
