Brilliant topic and so well covered from the point of view of someone who had them installed young - I was hoping to see the pictures of how they looked. I installed my daughters sisterlocks just before she was 5 because she was so tried of having her hair combed - she doesn’t have tight curls, maybe more 4b - but she hated it and wanted hair like mine (Sisterlocks). I didn’t really hesitate because I was pleased she wanted to embrace my hair rather than the European versions you referred to here. I wanted to reinforce black love and an appreciation of our hair type. Thankfully she and everyone around her loves her locs and all the pretty styles we get to do. It totally suits our busy and active schedule - swimming, gymnastics etc. and best of all I’m only in her hair every 6 weeks. I don’t worry about my daughter maybe deciding to take them out when she’s older - that’s the beauty and versatility of hair. So long as she’s old enough and capable of looking after her hair, I’ll support her. I’ll just consider that we’ve given her the ultimate protective style until she was ready to do as she pleased but of course I’d prefer that she continues to enjoy her locs and all that they afford her after years of having them. If she wants to wear wigs/weave on top she can but I truly hope she sees that she can have it all with sisterlocks and naturally so. The young girls where I live who go to secondary school seem to wear braids, long down their back rather than anything else right now so I’m hoping my daughter blends right in and showcases natural hair without the need for additions. Wonderful video
Hi Leecey, Incredible! Sisterlocks before she was five? Well done mama. How long did it take you to do it? My 12 year son wanted brother locks, but he can’t sit down for the duration 😏 I have seen your beautiful daughter’s hair on instagram, her locs are simply gorgeous ✨💕. I came up with a theory as to why some young people in their late teens or even in their early 20s take out their sisterlocks after having them for so many years. It is because they know the hair would grow back and if they choose to; they could always establish new set of locks > an abundance mindset
Phenomenal Sisterlocks London a consultant did them and it took about 16 hours - she sat still and wouldn’t leave until they were all done so it was done in one sitting. She wanted them that bad!! Thank you, I love her locs but most importantly, she loves her locs. Yes, you may be right about older children cos hair does grow back. It’s good to have choice!
A great video. My daughter is five and has shoulder-length 4b/c hair. I don't think I would put her hair in locs even though she doesn't enjoy having it done. When she's around 15/16, if it's something she wants to do, I would let her.
