    Spirit Island should be number one!
    Grab the pitchforks!

    My favorite game from them is Spirit Island!
    But yeah: No one should have to defend himself for liking a game. After all: It's Tom's top-10 games from Greater Than Games. Not their "10 best-rated" or "10 most-loved" games.
    Also: I need to play Sentinels again ... even though I only own that one in a digital version. It won't beat Spirit Island for me personally, but I remember having fun with it. :)

    Spirit Island the clear #1 for me. Homebrewers would be #2. SoM comes in at #3. I guess I'm glad they brought back the superhero theme...but if they get credit for the very small handful of good new superhero games, then they have to take some responsibility for the other 90% of terrible ones! :P

    Spirit island is my favorite game of all time and sentinels is in my top ten so this publisher holds a special place for me. Games aside I've had good experiences with their customer service and online store as well.

    Sentinels is great, but Spirit Island is sooooo good. Spirit Island gets my vote.

    Im glad to hear your love for Sentinels shine Tom! I was getting a little worried you weren't going to take a look at Definitive Edition, but this pretty much confirms that its on your list of things you do have to get to the table.
    I have the app for spirit island... but im wary of picking it up myself. I kind of want to try it first, with people that know what they are doing.

    Sentinels of the Multiverse is my favorite game by far. I know games have surpassed it mechanically, but it it is so thematically original (i.e. not Marvel nor DC). I LOVE it.

    I am always amused when SOTM is mentioned and the stock pictures grabbed are from the fan made Cauldron set instead of the actual game.

  • @KhameCat
    @KhameCat 2 года назад

    SotM is not only my favorite GtG game, but my second favorite tabletop game (1st if you don’t include Magic). I already enjoyed the original game; both through the app and on the table, but listening to The Letters Page, a podcast run by the creators about the multiverse that the game is based in, really brought it over the top.
    Even better, the new edition is fantastic! The game design and the art have both improved significantly, and have locked it in as my favorite non-ccg hobby game

    • @KhameCat
      @KhameCat 2 года назад

      Also worth noting that the shot of the cards used in this video was for a character from a fan expansion called The Cauldron. A good, if extremely difficult / complex expansion, but maybe not the best choice for a showcase of the GtG product 😅

    You should do a rank games list for Awaken Realms!!!

    Oh man I was sharpening my YT comment when I thought you would put Sentinels at #2. Now I’ll just say thanks for the video. :)

    Well, the best game for deep gamers, is this free mod: "Blood Rage - The Tavern Edition". Check it out on the file section of Blood Rage. This mod really is Greater Than Games.

    When displaying cards from SotU in this video the ones shown were from the Cauldron fan expansion. Is this a good addition to the game?

    • @KhameCat
      @KhameCat 2 года назад

      It depends. There are some interesting character designs and new mechanisms, but it is also significantly more complex, difficult, and sometimes fiddly than the official products, which is saying a lot because of how big that range already was.
      If you’re going to play with a big enough group to run one character each, give it a try. If it’s going to be solo or two player, it’s a hard sell. My last solo game of it took over 3 hours and ended in crushing defeat and a headache.

    The only one I own is New Bedford. Setup is fiddly with the expansion, the rules for one of expansion modules are somewhat unclear, and the expansion content is frustratingly close to fitting in the base box. The game itself if great, however. Spirit Island is fine, but I don't really dig cooperative games. Would like to try Homebrewers.

    Woah woah woah, when was Medium designed? The Comedy Bang Bang podcast used to play a joke called What am I Thinking that was the exact same thing

    • @DTChrisYi

      I think it's somewhat like Time's Up, where people have been playing "Names in a Hat" for a long time with lots of different rules, so a published version came out with consistent rules and cards with the words already set.

    I *adore* Get Bit. It’s fast, it’s fun, there’s strategy, and kids can play it too - they love ripping the limbs off the (not LEGO) figures.
    I also really like Compounded, which didn’t make your list. 💔

    Spirit Island number #2??! Why do you hate this game Tom? Hehehe just kidding, great list, thank you! Still have to try Sentinels of the Multiverse. Spirit Island is my current favorite game though, I can't imagine it'll go in that spot for me but who knows.

    For me Fate of the Elder Gods is definitely number one. Spirit Island really never did it for me. Tak is also pretty good. As for SotM, I have a love/hate relationship with it. The fiddly nature of it drives me nuts but I do like it in principle.

    Spirit Island...yawn. My group played it 4 times, won 3, with ratcheting difficulty. I think this game great for those who like cooperative sudoku but it just wasn't right for us. We found it boring both thematically and mechanically but Im happy there are many gamers who love it beacause diversity in game affection is inherently healthy for the industry. And its 100% okay not have an affinity with another gamer's passions.

    I feel like 99% of the Spirit Island fans just like it because of the “woke” theme.

      the theme is amazing, but it's more than that the game delivers too.

      Fyi, making something that is not white-washed is not necessarily "woke"
