The Liberator remains one of the most beautiful space craft I've ever seen. So elegant, dangerous and mysterious.
It was powerful but the Federation could easily beat it. It was fast and they always had to run away.
Falcan, Space Shuttle, Eagle Space 1999 and then Liberator, in that order. 😉
It certainly is beutiful.
@@MIK_F40 can't beat the Falcon. But what about the Enterprise??
What? No love for the Scorpio?
EDIT: Guys. The new effects are an OPTION. The original broadcast versions are included on this set. They've even rescanned original film elements. They aren't replacing the original FX shots, they're for those who feel taken out by those original shots, or who want to experience it in a different way. Be glad they at least tried to honor the period the series came from rather than vomit CG shots all over a 40+ year-old series.
For those who want to know, "updated special effects" this time means all new MODEL SHOTS. Most of the VFX footage you saw here was done with practical models. There are CG shots of the Liberator in this trailer, but most of the new footage you're seeing is of genuine miniatures shot in front of a real camera. This is a tremendous occasion.
PHEW!
That’s great news, the GCI Liberator shown in this promo was a huge step backwards.
So, are they better or still a bit shit? Blake's 7 was brilliant, but the effects are dated.
I hope they dont re-shoot ALL of the model shots. Most were amazing shots of the iconic model, and a shame to loose them all.
Oh, that's good to hear. The CGI shown here looks like it's from 20 years ago.
This popped up on my recommended. My jaw dropped with nostalgic excitement (is it normal for a 58-year-old's jaw to drop with nostalgic excitement?) I've pre-ordered it absolutely can't wait
Same here. Jaw dropped. Surely its fake! Believe it when i see it I think lol
It must be, because I am also 58 and I had the same reaction!
just watch it with the tomorrow people
Please dont remake this series be like trying to remake 30 year old whisky
@@user-ow4sd6xj6n I totally agree no one else can play Blake and no one else can play Avon and absolutely nobody can ever play servalan the way Jacqueline pierce did
OMG. Can’t wait. Even before Star Trek I was crazy about Blakes7. In Sri Lanka back then everyone was crazy about this show. They used to write Blakes7 on the street walls back then.
Must be the anti-authoritarianism.
Magnificent.
How that show ended scars me to this day.
Paul Darrow pointed out that Avons death wasn't shown. He hoped to have a sequel with him as a prisoner.
End end credits keeping the sounds of the guns as identifiers also allows wiggle room. It sounds like most of the cast would not have returned for a 5th year, had it been commissioned.
And just before Christmas. That really annoyed me...
There was supposed to be another series and lest folks forget, end of every series and start of most of them a main character died. S1 was just the false Orac prophecy, but end of S2 Travis, start of 3 Blake and Jenna, end of 3 Liberator, start of 4 Cally, S5 was supposed to start the same and the oh shot with a stun gun you see start off like S1 as prisioners.
There's a novel called Blake's 7 - Afterlife which tell of how Avon survived. TBH I don't recall much of it, as I read it in the mid 80s. Nor am I sure if it is considered canon.
Amazing the BBC would invest in such a project in 2024. I'm quietly impressed. Hope they really are released and sell well.
it's the end now. we are crushed. all your base are belong to your in-sect overlords.
'BBC Studios' is the commercial arm of the BBC, so they want to make money out of whatever they can dig up I expect.
Hopefully it comes to the USA
I’m amazed that it’s 2024 and the BBC are wasting money on bringing it out on DVD and not downloads. Let’s face it DVD market is tiny and they’ve lost a huge marketing opportunity.
Thank you BBC. The 16 year old boy who watched every episode in the autumn of 1978 will be buying these! CGI spaceships, who'd have guessed that 40 years ago. I've played my dusty old DVDs to death these last 20 years, never thought they'd come to Blu Ray. I will preoreder once I find where to! Cheers.
…as will this eight year old boy… 😊

@andyrob3259 that's not true, besides it's bluray and by making it available in this format means it is already digitised so can be added to any streaming service in the future
I hope this gets a release in the US! Love this show!
I always looked forward to Mondays back in 1978, as that was when I watched new episodes of Blake's 7 with my dad. Blake was the main character but it was Avon who was the coolest - always ready with a sarcastic quip and prepared to stab anyone in the back to get ahead. The criminally underrated Liberator spacecraft - one of the most beautiful ever designed. Order placed for this set - can't wait to relive January 1978 all over again!
the little guy thinks like nature. avon just thinks like people. he's not as funny just more aggressive.
Agree re Avon he was always my favourite
Yes, I was there too, 8 years old. And I hated school! I did not mind infants so much but Juniors and Comprehensive were a nightmare. Petty shouty controlling teachers, boring lessons, annoying other kids...hated it all! But on Monday nights we had Blakes 7 to watch and enjoy, the only good thing about a Monday and having to go back to school after the weekend of freedom. That was my struggle....Heh. I used to love and hate September as a month. I loved it as it was the start of a new season on the BBC so it meant stuff like Blakes 7 returning along with Doctor Who and the Generation Game etc and great Saturday nights viewing.....And it also meant my birthday was just around the corner in October, with presents and fun. But I hated it as it was the end of the 6 week school holiday and the dreaded depression of the final weekend with everyone telling me - "School on Monday!!!" like it was something to enjoy!!! Best thing about getting old..no more sodding School and teachers and bullies and boring home work, wet cold days forced outside and stupid P.E. on a freezing frozen football pitch...
Been waiting so long for this. Please don't leave it too long before you bring out the other 3 seasons.🙂
I'm under the impression that if sales are good we'll get one season a year alongside the Doctor who releases
It was only a matter of time before Blake's 7 got a blu-ray release. Looks awesome!
Orac was a box of flashing lights and a great character. There was some beautiful design and good world building, but the characters were glorious.
He's now living in Milton Keynes.
Being called the 'bargain basement of Star Trek' just shows how some critics don't always appreciate a truly good sci-fi TV show despite its underwhelming-at-the-time production values. Blake's 7, like classic Doctor Who and The Tomorrow People, naturally succeeded thanks to smart storytelling and viable characters. Its most loyal fan base is all the proof we need of that.
Long overdue. This series is phenomenally good. Groundbreaking science fiction. Terrific storytelling and acting. I have it on DVD but I will buy this.
LIke you I have on DVD. I dont own a blueray player, but would like to see this on a high quality screaming service
Coming Soon - Blake's 7 - The Collection! | BBC Studios 1656pm 22.8.24 it was some other freak's passion. but i am thinking i might be able to get into this now. now the overbearing stench of stella artois (ie: do as yer told) has jogged on..... dunno. could be a flop could be interesting.....
I have it on DVD, but I'm in the US (Region 1). I watched through it twice via my laptop, but alas no longer have a DVDROM drive, so my poor boxed set just gathers dust. I'm jazzed for Blu-Ray re-release! 🎉
@@bobnevermind If I were you. I would invest in a Bluray player. They can be bought pretty cheaply these days. As was proved with classic Doctor Who. The bluray episodes are miles better in quality, than the same episodes that are on BBC iPlayer. They don't always put the best quality episodes on streaming services. That is what it is like with classic Doctor Who episodes anyway.
People forget it's been 20 years since the original DVD and there were so many problems with that original pressing...
Obviously this is great news, and I’ve pre-ordered it already. However it’s such a shame that it comes several years after the three main actors Gareth Thomas, Paul Darrow and Jacqueline Pearce have sadly passed away. Their contributions will be sorely missed.
Agreed, At least we did get audio adventures from them.

Absolutely loved this show as a pup, even made a transporter bracelet out of paper for when we played at Blake's 7 in the school playground (it didn't last long). Always preferred this to Doctor Who, it was so much darker. Great to see it getting this treatment, though a complete reboot, oft mooted, would be interesting.
I've never watched Blake's 7 but, seeing it's the Doctor Who Collection team behind this, it's a day one purchase for me. I adore the dedicated work of Chris Chapman, Matthew Sweet and all the rest. What a lovely surprise.
Great primary characters, fantastic stories.. some of the NPC’s are a little weak but they get better as the series moves on.
Enjoy Avon becoming one of your favourite scifi characters
@@smash461986 Avon without a doubt is the coolest and most real character ever created in a show! He is so cynical and so switched on to what is happening around him. His put downs are brutal and accurate and he is always the winner, the survivor, the one who sees the negative and the outcome and what will go wrong, that others cant or wont see. And he is prepared, and self interest is what motivates him. He is seen as negative but is really clever, cunning and a brutal realist of black and white thinking. If more of the crew had listened to him they would have done far better. I always used to think Blake was the hero, and he was, the stand up idealistic see the best in everyone striving for freedom...but that is not the way the world works and Avon totally understood that. I always wish he had finally snapped and left them to set up on his own and survive after getting rich as he could have done it so easily at any point. But his complex motivations and reasons for sticking around always altered as a situation dictates as a true realist would....add in Paul Darrow and his fantastic voice and vocal performance coupled with the cold calculating portrayal and no one has ever come close to a character like Avon since and I doubt they ever will...
@@Mooza1976 it's the greatest TV show ever made IMO. And that's with the CRAP FX!

Always had fun seeing this show on PBS! They better release this in the US or they're getting a super earful from me!
Everyone please pre-order this right now, so we get the remaining series released with this level of awesomeness.
Blake's 7 getting the love it deserves. Easiest pre-order ever. I've always been skeptical of CGI re-masters, but I think we can agree that Blake's 7 is probably the one show where it would really help. Other than some of the stock Liberator shots which are lovely, you can really feel the lack of budget in most of the model shots. So I think new shots will really help.
The "new" Liberator is a heck of a lot less detailed. And far fewer lines on the "engine orb", not sure why!
@@frankshailes3205 They may have used AI to upscale the video.
The best thing is most of new shots are new practical models ships filmed.
Yeah, the CGI used in the teaser may not be the actual model for the new fx. Being modelwork and not CG already blows my mind. 🤯
I hope the original Scorpio model still exists as well.
Good price, great packaging and extras. Looks like it's been thought out very well.
Pre-ordered this straight away. So glad that Blake’s 7 is getting the recognition and attention it deserves.
Finally! I've been waiting for a bluray of this for a long time
Was not expecting so many film elements to still exist...
Bloomin' 'eck! At long last! I'd given up hope of it ever receiving this kind of treatment. Can't wait to get it.
MAXIMUM POWER! 🎉🕺❤️
This brings back memories of running around the Liberator set and playing with the hair tong guns (my dad did the studio sound) when I was a kid. All the cast were lovely (although I was a bit scared of Servalan). I happen to know a secret about the final episode but I better check with my dad about whether I'm allowed to reveal it 😁
Don't keep us all hanging in suspense here.
Great news for Blake’s 7 fans including myself. Thank you. 👍🏻
One of the greats. I remember watching it as a child. Glad to see it remastered. This is a must have.
Before Andor, before Mass Effect there was... Blake's 7.
please ALL REGION this release, do not limit it to region 2
I can hardly believe it, been waiting for a remaster for so long! It looks brilliant, counting down the days 'til November 11.
For blake,,s seven having a female arch-enemy and recurring arch-villain in the form, of Servalan was awesome in billions of ways.
Well done BBC you have made my day in releasing Blake’s 7 on Blu Ray.A great series I love watching over and over again.❤️❤️👍👍
I used to always watch this with my Dad :( RIP.
Joy to the world!! This has made my year so far!!!
WILL THIS BE ALL REGION? I am in Canada and WANT IT SO BAD!
According to the HMV site it says Region B (my region) but I wish they had gone for region free (likewise most blurays nowadays). It is frustrating that they rarely say the region details as there are so many region A ones I have passed on. Hopefully it will get a region A at some point.
Or you just buy a multi-region blu-ray player which are cheap & cost about the same price as this set
Region-locked to the UK, sadly.
Region locked to the UK, really?
I could not order this quick enough BUT I am sceptical about that revised transporter effect at 00:47, looks like they are in a candy floss machine.
sine waves aren't permissable imagery for modern citizens, they have to be blurred out or people might observe signals.
It probably is a repurposed candyfloss machine.
@@liverush24 I prefer to consider candyfloss machines as repurposed teleporters. My head canon is that someone discovered their effect on spun sugar accidentally while ordering an intergalactic deliveroo.
Yeah I do not like. The line effect was much better
WIsh it was coming for Region 1! There's a lot of B7 Fans in the U.S!

My favourite show as a kid from the 80x ❤
If only Blake, Gan, Avon, Zen, Orac, Slave, Servalan and Travis were here to see this. RIP you guys
Well, I never thought I would see this on Blu ray!! Pre order!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As many others have said, I have this on DVD, and I am glad that I do. I will probably get this, out of curiosity, but doubt that it will replace my DVDs for watching the show.
Like Doctor Who, half of the charm of Blakes 7 is the “special effects”. I also have the “digitally remastered, all-new effects” DVDs of the original Star Trek series. It looks great, but it loses something with the “modern” effects mixed in with the 60’s costumes and sets.
These shows are products of their times, so “half” updating them leaves you with a weird mish-mash of old, and new. I love the old sets and effects in the original Star Trek, just as I love the contemporary sets in contemporary Star Trek. My brain can accept that two shows set so close to each other in time, but made decades apart, can look so different, but still be of the same “era”.
And, finally, there is much to be said for the effects from the original shows, as it shows how creative people were, to put something acceptable on the screen, before CGI had even been thought of. For Blakes 7, there is something innately special about the wobbly-wobbly teleporter effect, as well as the brilliant realisations of the various ships, crafts, etc, shown on screen. Yes, you can see the wires in some shots *cough* the London *cough* but I don’t care. Blakes 7 is such a classic show, because of the story, not the effects.
Cheers,
Wow, I honestly couldn't have asked for anything better at this time - out of nowhere this is what I needed tonight
Needs a repeat on TV too.
Perhaps Dave or Drama could show it
Fantastic, been waiting for this for years!
That first episode was some incredible hard dystopian sci-fi. Then it quickly devolved into a goofy Robin Hood In Space thing. I never did get through the whole series. It kind of lost me not long after Gann dies, mostly just because it got more ridiculous. Fascinating show overall, though.
Would be nice if this was released as a digital download - haven't had a DVD/Blu-ray player for years!
Said no-one with a brain ever.
Is it me or the New SFX in this trailer looks like they were made in the 1990s? Maybe I'm just tripping. I'm just happy and can't wait to rewatch the show in HD this time.
It won't change the scripts or the acting, will it?
@TheAussiepamela yup. Some of the cgi shown looks interesting too, even if it's not new. We'll know soon enough how we'll it does look!
The new teleport beam-out effect looks interesting too. A bit flaming, but how they edit it all will be cool to see!
Mostly model work by Mat Irvine and Tucker with CGI added in 4k. So should look amazing on a big screen
To be honest, even 1990’s cgi effects would elevate the show =)
It won't actually be HD, aside from all the location stuff (for which it seems the film does in fact exist)
Purchase confirmed. But I'll never let go of my DVD set signed by Jaquie Pearce ❤
We are not alone, B7 fans. 87K views in 6 days!
Hmm. Cautiously optimistic for this. Mr Briant's right; the show's opening is some surprisingly dark dystopian sci-fi. It made the most of that later time-slot - still pre-"watershed" (just) but not "for the kids" as much as, say, Doctor Who was. Until I saw it again on DVD I'd forgotten what crime they originally fitted Blake up for, to destroy his reputation prior to deportation off-world.
Not “For the kids” sums up the both the show and his supposed crime.
Looking forward to this. But I hope there's an option to view the old special effects, the modern re-purposed ones are often hit and miss.
They’re always optional. It very clearly says that.
Judging by that shot of the explosion near the end (i want to say it's Seek, Locate, Destroy, but it's years since I've watched them) it looks like they've done a nice job of upscaling the 16mm location footage
It always saddened me that Paul Darrow didn't succeed in getting a sequel based on his character. The full story on that is in his autobiography titled : you' re him, aren't you? :
Get the audiobook version for the full hilariously excruciating experience in his own voice.
Wasn't his fault..... Loads of hurdles which he couldn't overcome.
Will there be a Region 1 release as well?
Nope. It’s not a DVD.
@@DrWhoFanJ Blu-ray has regions, too
@@WyldstaarStudios I never said it didn’t. It doesn’t have numbered regions, though, hence the impossibility of a Region 1 release.

Thank goodness there will be an option to avoid CGI. The CGI on the trailer really put me off. Part of the charm of B7 is the amazing results the SFX team achieved on such a small budget. Can you imagine a CGI version of the infamous Mat Irvine double hair dryer ship?! 😯 As a modeller the B7 practical effects models have always been amongst my favourites and Liberator is my all-time number 1. Season 1 preordered. Hopefully Season 2 will follow soon with my favourite episode of the show - "Redemption". Looking forward to Season 3 too. Such a shame that so many of the cast have passed on 😥
Plenty of new model effects to enjoy :)
Great news! 👍😃
People rave about Firefly, but it's really just a poor clone of Blake's 7!
So where does Farscape fit as that was a nod to Blake's 7
Firefly is a great series, saying it's a poor clone of B7 is like saying B7 is a poor clone of the Magnificent Seven.
i have and love the original DVD box set so if they much up the 'remaster' i can just go back to the DVD which were what we watched on the telly back then..
The O.G Guardians of the Galaxy 😂
Excellent news -- used to watch this show when I was a kid it would be interesting to revisit it! Does anyone know if the Blu-ray set will be Region B locked?
Cannot wait for this! My favourite SciFi series.
About time Blake's 7 came to Blu-ray. Excited to see the (optional) newly done model shots, and thrilled they were models!
Seems almost petty to say "Bad editor, putting Orac's voice over Zen!"
I've known of this show for YEARS and yet I've never seen a single episode. Now I want to watch this entire box set. As a fan of the lower-budget "classic" Doctor Who I think I'd enjoy this very much. I haven't enjoyed the last 4 years of Doctor Who at all. In fact I've given up. Very excited!
No-one with a brain thinks that nonsense you spouted about DW.
When I started my own computer software business 15 years ago I named the main computer server ORAC. Nobody else knew the reference but I always thought it was rather fitting. BTW, even though most of our operations run in the cloud, ORAC still runs as an updated virtual machine on new hardware!
Cool to think ORAC lives on
The other week I purchased a voice activated air conditioner. Got half a day before I was shouting across the office "OBEY MY COMMANDS ORAC!".
My network switch was named Servalan
In truth, some of the effects look a bit like a video game, but hell YES!! :)
I was born in 71 . But remember seeing the die cast toys and a few episodes but no more than that. it was on late in Australia like 9 pm or 10 and yet Doctor Who was at 5 pm then Kenny Everett and the goodies

In the 1970s, even Star Wars was good. But Blakes 7 was the best!

The inspiration for so many sci-fi shows from Farscape to Dark Matter to Star Wars: Rebels. Seriously, even if reintroduced through a special Doctor Who episode, we need Blake's 7 back on our screens.
Because...some Federations need taking down! 😎
I am a younger fan of this show. Because of B7, i got into retro TV. The music and sound fx are so cool because that was done with traditional instruments and lots of synthesizers from the BBC radiophonic studios 😊
Excellent stories. Perfect cast.

Blakes 7, Secret Army. Wasn't we spoilt back then when compared to today?
Rewatched Secret Army again recently. Wonderful series
@SimonLeicester Great scripts delivered by excellent actors playing authentic characters.
I grew up with this, remember it so fondly......but Im not sure I want to re-visit.....Ive seen clips since but never whole episodes....even with re-mastering Im dubious it will "feel" the same as it did back in the day 44 or so years ago
I felt the same when it was reshown on Forces TV a few years back. But the acting is brilliant and the music spine tingling. The FX let it down. This will take it to another level. Do give it a go. I was 8 when it started and obsessed.
I really can't wait!
I was too young to appreciate it at the time but I'll never forget the music. Steven Pacey happens to be my favourite audiobook narrator! This is a must see for me.
Ah such nostalgia. I remember watching VHS of these when I was a kid. At the time they seem to join episodes together to make like a movie length version. And then years later going back to watch the full episodes it was kind of strange to see the film versions of the episodes are not just the cut together pieces .
Well it's about time!
Been waiting for this forever! Pre-ordered straight away
Will the upgraded version get a release on DVD/TV, too? I would love this, but not enough to buy a blue ray player specially 😂
I hope this finally comes to America! Been wanting to own the series for a long time
I grew up with this in the 70,s and loved it its ripe for a gloss over like this and ripe dare I say it for a remake if they did it right to this day the ending was incredible way ahead of its time to do that
It's easy to forget how dark, dystopian and basically cool the initial episodes were. It seemed to get less serious as the seasons went by. I love the option of updated CGI, as the script writing and acting in British sci-fi was so much better in the 50's, 60s, 70's. It's the best of both worlds. Proper sci-fi with the same 21st century effects that it's modern counterparts have. The image of the Liberator over a blue planet at 1:38 looks incredible. Day of the Daleks was done so well, so lets hope for something similar here and giving the viewer the option to choose the original or new effects is a fantastic option. Also I wonder if they have updated the ship computers in season 4. They scrapped the Liberator in favour of Scorpio with what looks like the much loved BBC Micro graphics for the display on the new ship, yet it is the new displays that look dated now, not the original Zen interface. Will buy this as soon as it's released.
"Updated special effects"!? No! Give us back our spaceships on strings!
It’ll still have the original as an option as in the Doctor Who collection box sets
There are plenty of updated models on strings (and rods) 😅
@@PaulDeenik Really? Oh cool! That's alright if I can watch it with the original SFX. Sci-fi fans are some of the most conservative and sentimental people in the world and when producers "remaster" or "enhance" our beloved programmes they show they have lost touch with their viewers. The fact that the new B7 edition has the option of the original SFX shows these producers have not yet.
Oh, hell yes.
Had some dodgy episodes (the Space Rats springs to mind!) but when it was good the storytelling towered above Star Trek and Dr Who combined.
