- Watch this video to see what it’s like to fly with Icelandair on a Boeing 737MAX from Iceland to Raleigh, North Carolina!
This is Icelandair’s first new route in more than two years, and I was lucky enough to be onboard for the inaugural flight!
This trip in Icelandair’s Saga Business Class lasted six hours and this video will highlight everything! From the exciting gate party to celebrate the new Icelandair route, to the Icelandair Business Class food and seat. We’ll even share the Icelandair Inflight Entertainment and service. I even got to interview Icelandair’s CEO!
Big shout-out and thanks to Craig from the RDU Planespotters Group for the photo on the thumbnail. Check him out here:

Love it when a CEO takes the time to talk to you (he did look a little tired)
Anyone else find it really cool that at 10:18, the cloud cover is so low that you can see the tops of the Verrazano Bridge?
It was cool i was wondering what it was . Thanks:)
@@phoenixcompanygaming9336 No problem! As a Long Island, NY Native, I could recognize that bridge from anywhere!
At what altitude was these videos taken you think ? Everything seems clear and crisp.
@@Jrock2339 Far from a NY native here in Australia . So again thanks 👍
@@111danish111 The were at FL380 or 38,000 Feet or 11,582.4 Meters in altitude flying over NYC.
Hearing someone say "the great state of North Carolina" always puts a smile on my face. Great video, thanks!
Iceland has been super smart since the country's economic crash, pivoting to make Reykjavik a major hub between Europe and North America and dramatically ramping up tourism in the process. They've practically made it as vital as Anchorage used to be on flights that had to circumvent China and the USSR. (Different reasons, of course.)
Plus, the stopovers!
stop-overs in Iceland ... Icelandair may not cost more with a stop-over, but dining and lodging in Iceland is costly.
Their price are $200-$300 cheaper compared to Aer Lingus too. Which is an Amazing deal, especially with free checked baggages on standard economy fares.
As a Raleigh resident, I love seeing new airlines and routes coming to RDU.
As a CLT person, im happy for our capital but man can yall send some of those airlines down to clt plz 😝
@@NeelHippalgaonkar Only if you send us Lufthansa!
fr this is great for INTL travel especially considering Iceland is one of the places I wanna go most
@@NeelHippalgaonkar Hey y'all got a direct to Rome Italy iirc send some of that our way lol. Really hoping for a Germany flight from RDU soon, lots of business travelers due to Germany and RTP's major life sciences industries.
As a future Raleigh resident i am glad to
As a Raleigh resident I was delighted to see that you were on the inaugural flight of Icelandair to our wonderful city! Great video as always.
What's the "logic" behind a flight from Iceland to North Carolina??
@@gabrielort3531 - Cheap connecting flights to Europe without having the logistic nightmare to guess viable non-stop flights to European destinations from Raleigh.
@@gabrielort3531 Thanks to the Research Triangle Park just able every major Tech Company does or will have a presence in the area in the next 5 years. One of the fastest growing areas in the country.
Great we have a new alternative to Europe from NC with this RDU service. Wish Icelandair much success.
In airline terms, is an upgrade watching your videos. Very Professional Person, Positive Attitude, Very Detail Oriented, Sharp Looking and all the above. Congrats Jeb, you make a HUGE difference!
Love seeing RDU's service increase, and for new international service generally! Thanks for a great video as always!
@@d3kingg387 NC is getting way to many people coming to it. PLEASE stay up north
It's what I would expect from Iceland, a good, solid product without unnecessary frills.
Since Raleigh is my home airport, i was able to spot it coming in. It was one of the coolest things I have seen. I have been waiting for this video! Good Job!
Icelandair has done a great job of using Iceland's location to their benefit besides being a beautiful country in itself. Looking forward to trying the airline out myself.
Interesting video on and airline i've always seen as a sort of mid-level carrier. Not an LCC, but not quite in the same league as most other long-haul carriers (at least in terms of their "business" class product). Was cool hearing that your aircraft had connected in from my home airport - Glasgow - before operating the inaugural flight. Certainly an airline I want to give a go at some point, so this was really helpful.
It’s a quarter of a century since I flew from GLA to BOS via KEF with Icelandair. Back then it was a 737-400 to KEF and the 757 to BOS was fairly new! Routing via KEF from Glasgow to North America is very handy.
Honestly icelandair is one of my favorite airlines
My first ever trip across an ocean was from Seattle to Glasgow via Keflavik, in Saga class. Glasgow is a beautiful city! The Upper Decker lounge was closed so I was directed to the other lounge, which had very nice airport views.
Unfortunately, the "friend" from Tongue I was supposed to spend the weekend with stood me up so I arrived with no plans, but a friend a little south of Newcastle invited me over so I explored Glasgow, explored a bit of northeastern England, then back to Glasgow for a little more.
I love Icelandair. Flew on them from Amsterdam on the 767 and back to Paris on the 757 during my recent trip to Iceland and had a wonderful experience
Wow, as an international traveler at times it would have made me tear up a little to see such hospitality to American travelers & our homeland. That's really awesome and a great gesture by Icelandair
The scenery on this flight was some of the best I've seen in any of your videos. Beautiful!
I flew back from Reykjavik to Dulles years ago, and probably my favorite thing was the stretch right over the southern tip of Greenland. Mountains and glaciers everywhere, and in this land that is so remote and barely visited by anyone. It was so neat to see it exist for real.
RDU still getting flights from new destinations. Love to see it 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
IcelandAir have always had a nice charm to it!
congrats on the EXCLUSIVE interview with jeremy renner
Jeb, I love all your videos. You have such a positive outlook, professional camera work, great narratives. Your videos are of such high quality. Easily my favorite travel channel.
Jeb, your videos are amazing, Icelandair is absolutely beautiful and I’m happy to see you flying on their 737-MAX!
I love your channel. You are just a ball of positive energy. One of the best aviation channels out there. You’re the best Jeb Brooks!
that new livery is absolutely STUNNING, Hats off to them!
Jeb! You’re killing it man! These videos are just getting more awesome and awesome! 👏🏾👨🏾✈️🤙🏾
Thank you so much for all the time you spend making these interesting and wonderful videos of your trips . I think at 82 years old I'm learning some geography I didn't learn in school. I look so forward to watching your videos .
Icelandair is fantastic. The open faced salmon sandwich is delicious
I was going to fly this route and this video was perfect to know what to expect, thank you so much for doing a wonderful job. Very excited! Just subscribed and looking forward to more great content.
Among the best travel cinematography I have ever seen. Great job! Great review!
Love Iceland. There’s a good local watch maker downtown there. The locals are wonderful
We the locals care about the tourist because we want to show you how beautiful our county is (p.s during the summer months the sun is shining 24/7)
The new international routes coming to Raleigh (my home airport!) is really exciting! Maybe if I weren’t so broke I’d take advantage of them more. Would LOVE to see Iceland!
This just popped up on my feed, hope you enjoyed your time in Iceland. Being Icelandic and having lived on mainland Europe for several years I always feel good walking through KEF airport, it's just a nice place to be at
Always smiling ! So refreshing
Thanks !😊
Excellent video Jeb. I've been to Iceland and their cuisine is outstanding. I was so happy to see their food in Saga. Of course, I'm usually in economy. I wish them well on this new route.
Just looking at that beautiful lounge which is so Nordic in style I would have given it 5* without hesitation.
Why was the lounge before passport control? Figure it would be close to the gates like most American/Canadian lounges are.
6:21 wow all those dents/scrapes on that jet engine!
Jeb, I am a huge fan of Icelandair and to see this makes me so excited!!!!! GREAT video!!
A good airline. Glad they chose the Max. A solid replacement for the aging 757’s.
Sitting in a 17 in width seat for 6+ hours isnt that great of a experience if you cant afford the front of the cabin. I dodnt see any PE being offered.
Well, the Max was their only option to be fair. Boeing doesn’t have any other new mid sized planes to offer that fit their ideal needs.
@@briangasser973 I flew Iceland Air premium economy when they had it, and it was a really good experience. Priced nicely between coach and saga. Saga really is more like a slightly tuned up version of premium economy from say Air Canada with just a hair more room. It’s a bummer they dropped premium economy. I really need the leg room to be neven remotely comfortable with 6’ 2.5” height. I can’t sit in exist row as my wife is handicap. I still am hoping to make another trip back to Iceland in the near future. Super friendly staff. Last time we traveled through KEF they had undergone insane growth and construction was happening all over the airport. A friendly attendant met us at the end of the gangway and rolled my wife through the airport at a seriously fast pace. Before we knew it we turned a corner and were lined up with customs, then off to the gate. They were using mostly airplane pads and stairs back then due to capacity restrictions at the main terminal. They offered a lift for my wife which she didn’t need (she can get up the stairs once to get in and once to get down. After that she wouldn’t be able to walk through the terminal). Everyone I ever dealt with at the airport from cabin crew to customs have been friendly and professional.
The deadly boeing 737 Max is not a solid replacement for the 757. The 757 had a good sfety record while the 737 max killed 346 people when it was new. Boeing needs to come up with a new airplane perhaps a 797 that will really replace the 757. The Boeings 737 Max's image is already tarnished and many people prefer not to set foot in it ever!
In the mid-1990s, Icelandair claimed they had one of the youngest fleets, with 757 and 737 airplanes.
Thank you for the video. I loved the scenery from the window!
I live in Raleigh and am planning to try Icelandair for a trip to London this summer. Really glad we have this option at RDU now - having to connect stateside at a big hub is a pain.
A thought about contents of the IFE: licences for movies and TV shows can be very costly. I simply load up my iPad with Apple TV shows I bought, and Netflix stuff for offline viewing.
Big fan of Iceland as a country and the airline. It’s great that they are connecting Iceland to lesser served locations and although not mind blowing, the cabin is perfectly adequate for a flight of this length.
What a nice journey with some amazing views out from the window and the food looked delicious.
Great flight review.
Keep it up.

Hi Jeb really enjoy your travel videos both the flights and the trains keep it going as they are giving me some good ideas of places I want to visit in the future
Fantastic as usual!! keep up the Great Work. Wish I could have rode along with you.
Those amazing views! RDU a is a great airport. As always amazing content Jebb!
Icelandair is one of my favorite airlines. I've flown them multiple times to/from Europe (with and without stopovers), and I've always had great experiences.
I love Iceland it’s so pretty I totally recommend going here for vacation!
Great flight review! Those views of Manhattan were astonishing!
just flew iceland air from reykjavik two days ago. loved flying the 757 & the 737 max 8
Finally. I love icelandair.
Thanks for another great review Josh.
2:41 My wife and kids flew the "northern lights" liveried plane from KEF-ORD a couple years back. That is one beautiful plane.
the plane at 2:41 is not the northern lights one
@@nekodrakogd9453 But, I never said that one was, just that they were on it.
Great video Jeb! Will be taking a trip to Iceland this summer in August, after 3 cancellations in the past two years due to Covid. Flying with Delta this time (from MSP, they had a better deal than Icelandair this time around plus medallion status) great look at the airport!
There is always something to learn from your videos
Love icelandair. The best.
RDU is my home airport. Happy to see this service coming to The Triangle!
Nice video Jeb. This is definitely on my bucket list.
Wonderful video. The view was amazing.
Seeing the bar at KEF brought back memories, last beer of my vacation before flying back to EWR (on a WOW A320...not the most comfortable flight ever!)
RDU is my home airport as well! I’m so glad to see it in a video on the channel! I gotta check out GSO one of these days too!!
Very nice video of the FI inaugural to RDU. During the off-peak months, FI usually flies their MAX's to SEA in lieu of the 757's. They are mostly MAX 9's, but they had flown in some MAX 8's.
I just flew on Iceland air from ORD to KEF on the 737 max. Loved the seats. So comfy
Great video as always Jeb. I would love to visit Iceland one day and fly Icelandair. I loved the fact that they used to be a prime 757 airline! Also KEF is a joint use military-civilian airport with a lot of history. Alas my only critique of your Jebscore here is of the food. It doesn't look 5 star to me, given you have compared so favorably to Air France's La Preimer and Guarda's first class inflight chef experience. I would still fly Icelandair though. Thanks for showing us this video, Jeb!!
I’m travelling from London to Washington DC via Keflavik in a few weeks and it was really interesting to watch your review on the airline. Great vid!
Love that they were playing "I love this bar" during the CEO interview haha! Love it, Jeb!
Wow, great trip report. Looks like a great experience, that salmon looked good :)
Another great video, Thanks Jeb! Hope one day you make it out to my hometown, Memphis, TN!
I flew on icelandairs 757 from iceland to boston its really lovely at nignt when the put on the moodlighting its much better than any other carrier
Can't wait to use this route in the future as I live in Raleigh! Unfortunately I'm flying to Europe this year from Los Angeles due to scheduling but for sure I will look into flying back via this route if it's an option in September. And of course I will consider this route for future trips to Europe! I hope there's more international flights coming to RDU other than the current 5ish.
Good to see. Doing DEN-KEF roundtrip in Biz class in August. Nice to to know what to expect, although probably we won't get ice cream enroute.
Last time I was in the air was 2017 and hoping to be up there again soon. I need to go on vacation again, I miss being in an airplane at 38K miles. Great video Jeb!
Looks great to see icelandair expanding its business, especially given that KEF was cozy place to spend few hours(and buy 6 pack of local beer)
I flew Iceland air in the 80’s on a trip to Europe. Affordable, comfortable enough for economy and good food. Bought a nice wool sweater in the airport too! 🥰
Great video as always… and it has been over 3 years since I last visited Iceland. Maybe it is time I plan a return trip there.
Another wonderful video!
Amazing video Jeb!😸
I was at the Keflavik airport the same time as you, I was heading back to Edinburgh. In typical fashion I arrived far to early for my flight.
Keflavik is a good airport, easy to get around. I'm flying Icelandair in October to Vancouver and flying back to Iceland via Seattle. Looking forward to my 4 night layover in Iceland before I head back to Scotland
YESSS! He’s backkk😍😍
Great shots of New York
Oh wow! This is great flying to RDU! I was trying to research the plane before my flight.
The video to amman was amazing
Another great video! Btw i’m not sure if you heard, but brussels airlines is resuming flights to conakry starting june 11. I think it’d be really interesting for you to fly on it !
Amazing video as always Jeb! :)
Great video! Hopefully the route does well !
im planning on going to iceland in august and i am super excited. hoping to get a flight on one of their 757s
Looked like a nice relaxing flight. The menu offering seemed pretty good. That scallop shrimp salad caught me eye.
Cool treasure you got on another Inaugural flight.
Love your videos. Keep up the great work….
Love the videos!!!!
You had much better on board service than they offered last year due to COVID. When I was in Saga last year there was no amenity kit, and food was a cardboard box with a cold snack in but not much more.
The lounge at Keflavik is great though, as were the service. One of my favourite airlines to fly.
amazing video Jeb brooks
Thank you legend !!!!
Great video.
Please show us more economy class trips.
Back in 1993 when I was assigned to the US Naval Base at Keflavik, for my mid-tour leave I flew Icelandair (757) First Class to BWI. Little pricey but I wanted to treat myself and it was well worth it. I could definitely get used to flying First Class.
I love seeing this vidéo
Great review… Gotta love the simplicity of design of the Scandinavians, Jeb. I hope they stretch their wings a little further now the worst of Covid seems to be behind us (🤞). I’m surprised at the small loadings for an inaugural flight. Perhaps they didn’t want to stress staff too much while the CEO was on board? Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
Great video jeb,
The ice air 737 max is definitely an aircraft I would like to fly on, looks like a really nice aircraft. I have flown on the MAX 4 times, but all airlines within the UK so maybe a trip up to Iceland for a few days would be nice. Would prefer the 752 on the route from Glasgow as that’s my local airport, of course the 757 has been replaced by the MAX!
Lovely video again!
You should try the night time flight from the east coast to Keflavik. On approach on the right side of the plane if you are lucky you have a amazing view of the sea ice with the perfect amount of clouds with the moon reflecting against the water. It is absolutely spectacular. Mother Nature is so pretty.
Great Video!!! Also don’t know if you noticed, isn’t the new Icelandair Livery reminiscent of the old Air Florida livery? Sort of Reminded me of it.
Cool flight. Food looked very good.
