For example, if a normal jump part with that spacing worth "x" pp, has "y" difficulty and looks "z" hard,
then this kinda pattern with that spacing worth "1.3x" pp, has "1.1y" difficulty and looks "0.7z" hard.

June 9, 2022. kakichoco - Zan'ei is a completely normal and unassuming map made by Lesse that went through qualification and was then ranked pp. At least, it seemed normal until you played it and were rewarded with up to double the you should've gotten. A quick glance at the star rating shows that the map is only 6.77*, and it definitely feels like it's that hard, but for some reason it's giving out the same pp as a map that was over 9 stars. The players who first noticed this bug started telling their friends that something was wrong with Zan’ei and that they should play it too to gain some nice, easy, free pp. They then told their friends, and their friends told their friends, and the news spread very quickly throughout the community. Within 2 days almost every player online, including the highest ranked players, were trying to get their share of pp from the new map. Fortunately two of these plays survived to this day so I will be showing current day plays on the map to give you an idea of the difficulty. For context, the actual pp record at the time was 1192pp from sakatama1's HDDT FC on Stella-rium (Asterisk MAKINA Remix), but that would soon be "broken" rather easily. The NoMod values aren't well known but we can assume that they were able to get upwards of 445pp from the 6 and more than a half star Illusion diff. Better players who tried to FC with HardRock were rewarded with 580, 583, even 587pp for a map that would normally give less than 400. Now people pushed for Hidden HardRock and made it go even further with 618, 622, 626, and 630pp, all by Trail Mix, one of the top HDHR players of the time. By now the ranking was a complete mess as almost everyone got their new top play without putting nearly any effort in to the bugged map. Many began leaving comments on the map's page and forum thread about what was happening and what should be done to fix the situation. Others just continued to enjoy the rare moment where the broken pp on Zan’ei could help them gain a few ranks. The next logical step was trying the map with DoubleTime, which a few players could do and and got 1156 and 1241pp. All of that was until sakatama1, the #1 player at the time, was able to get a 98,99% Hidden DoubleTime fc that clocked in at 1241pp, just under 49pp above the current record. In only a few hours the game had devolved into complete chaos with a majority of online users all trying to abuse the broken map. Suddenly without warning the map was unranked and users found abusing temporarily had their userpages and even accounts disabled like sakatama1 and Utami. So what exactly happened here to turn a fairly simple map into the biggest farm-fest of the year? The day before a change for the pp system was being pushed to live that tried to make star rating more relevant to players. Xexxar, the lead developer of pp, decided to make the values larger since there were almost no maps between 5 and 10 stars despite the so-called "soft cap" for ranked difficulty being 10*. As explained by a Reddit user, the star rating values then were about 2/3 of what you would see now, meaning a 6* map today would be around 4* in the older version. I'm not sure how reliable this explanation is since the changelogs from this time are missing, but it seems to be corroborated by a few other people I've asked. This would help fill out the rare higher star difficulty range better but would also help players more easily differentiate between the difficulty of maps on the lower end. Basically the change would increase the star rating while keeping the pp values about the same... or so he thought. During the recalculation something went wrong: a map was qualified and ranked at the perfect time to pass through the star rating recalculation twice. Zan'ei was a completely normal map with an Illusion difficulty that was just over 6.77* in the old system that was converted to 6.77* in the new while the map was qualified. Then as the map changed to being ranked, for some reason the system thought that that 6.77* was the map's old star rating and it recalculated it once again to turn a relatively average Illusion difficulty into a 6 and more than a half star map. The game and website showed the correct star rating visually most of the time so players wouldn't think anything of it, but the pp system behind the scenes still thought that the map was over 6 stars. As soon as staff caught wind of what was happening they began investigating and found that luckily Zan’ei was the only map affected by the bug. The simplest course of action for them to remove all the bugged scores and stop future ones from happening was to just unrank the map until its star rating was able to be properly recalculated. They did punish some users as mentioned for abusing and spreading knowledge of the bug to others, but within a few hours their userpages and accounts were restored and everything was back to normal. And with that ended the chaotic few hours where the pp system was broken for a single map. After that fiasco Zan’ei was qualified a week later and then once again added to the ranked section with its difficulty values finally fixed. There's been only two incidents similar to this one that I could find since then but they're not nearly as large, long lasting, or well known. In the aftermath jokes were made and discussions were had, but the event would largely be forgotten apart from those who experienced it themselves. The Zan’ei Incident has become just another footnote in osu!'s long, rich history.

With the pp rework, weird technical maps give a lot more pp and this is an extreme case of it.

It buffed high slider velo(which tech maps might have) and maps like lost umbrella for me isn't a tech map because the rhythm is quite regular. Technical maps are the maps where you have to "technically" tap the circles(so whenever you visually see the approach circle reaches the inner circle, you click, not following the song's rhythm that guides you(in technical map it doesnt) for you to tap. Because there are too many changes in the map's rhythm

@@minyu0001 this is not tech you just described lol. It's just a shitmap with improperly placed notes. Rhythm complex tech maps are based on rhythm complex songs and the good ones perfectly capture the feel and the flow of the song. If the song isn't complex enough to provide proper tapping difficulty tech maps would just use even wackier aim patterns for aim and reading complexity sometimes in combination with ar too low for its note density to make reading even harder. If the song is as plain as it could get the only way is to make an alt map which is hardly tech. Or make a slider mess for so-called slidertech which the mappers do when they can't make a proper fun-to-play tech map because they are too dumb for that i guess.

Guys I want to share with you with same situation I had 2 days ago. I just opened osu! as usual and started warming up on alternate maps and remembered Ed's reaction on Flying Tuna's play on God-ish. So I was like "I love this song so much, maybe I should try", then opened osu! browser page(I almost never download new maps), went into beatmaps section and before typing "god-ish" I saw "Happy! Lucky!" Op or smth. So I was like "hm, sounds great, I wanna play. So I downloaded 2 "God-ish" maps and that one and started playing "Happy! Lucky!". I saw that local rating shows 7*, after rebalance it's 6.55 or smth. As I already knew, all anime opening maps are short and pp farming maps, and I thought maybe I am able to farm it. I played it once and it felt like 5.5 to 6 star map, surely not 6.55 star. I don't have many 6 star FCs, so I FCed it in20 plays, usually it takes me few hours or even days to farm 6 star. When spinning last spinner I thought myself "OMG THATS MY FIRST 300PP", but it showed me 298 and I got tilted. But still, being able to farm 6.55 star in less than 10 mins without warmup is something crazy to me so I think that also should get some attention. It's not like rewarding more pp for fc, but it seems like it shouldn't be 6.5 stars. Thanks if you read all of my shit story
