We need one that will generate AABC ABAB or ABAC type melody structure. Like a musical Period. There's nothing random about ordered sounds. Most these generators for melodies are random and need some sort of structure to them where the generator offer repetition and introduces order rather than chaos. Nah mean?

Hi and thanks philipp this is truly amazing, helping in both domain ; time saving and creative stuff ! I could say that one thing that could be great would be to replace the quantize button with a fader or a 0 to 100% type stuff, so you could be more in the middle between totally on the grid or totally off it ! have a good day and keep going
Pretty sick there exist alternative generators, it makes Ableton even more fun than it already is. Ordered Polyrhythm, Divs and Bloks Really excited to see if i can implement it longtime in my workflow :)
Hi Philip! I've had this idea before Live 12. I could probably build it myself, but I think you'd do it better/faster. The goal is to modify notes' velocity based off of their pitch according to an XY graph. X is pitch of existing notes and Y being the modifying factor on velocity (so middle of Y axis is no change for respective pitch and lower on Y reduces velocity toward 0 and higher on Y increases toward 127). This is really musically useful. Say you have a chord stack on an orchestral patch. This device would let you quickly dial in the voicing, perhaps making the bass notes louder than the high notes, vice versa, or any other velocity distribution you want. I do this all the time and there's no device for it.
Just bought them, they're great! Also while experimenting with them I had an idea for a possible new transformer: one that scales/stretches/warps midi on the vertical axis. So sort of like the standard Ableton midi warp but on the vertical axis, maybe even with different algorithms for where the notes go exactly (linear, exponential), and maybe to the point where it starts inverting/mirroring the notes on the vertical axis. The new midi capabilities and your devices make me look at midi differently, almost like clay that can be kneaded into any shape, so it seems like this vertical stretching thing should be possible too :) (BTW maybe something like this already exists and/or can already be done with one of your tools, I'm just getting into Live 12 :))
thank you and that’s a very cool idea! i’ll add it to the list 😉. totally agree with your take on midi - this new toolkit lets us think about midi in radical new ways
couldn't make it through the whole video, had to go buy one, then back for another. Huge qualitative difference having generators next to the piano roll like this. Maybe a bundle later would be nice, but maybe I'll have bought them all by then. Nice work!
nice! thank you. when i was making these I was kind of blown away at how much of a difference it makes to be able to see the results directly in the MIDI clip. so clear compared to a normal sequencer.
I'm starting to explore the Philip Meyer's MIDI Tools devices just now, but I have a tip for anyone reading this. Using the Phase Pattern to generate a rhythmic sequence: 1. Adjust the Jitter to 100%; 2. Change the value of the "diagonal line", but instead of clicking and dragging on the display, click on the numerical values and gradually adjust it on 0.01 increments. Because of the 100% Jitter, the rhythms you achieve this way are... well... "unexpected". Furthermore, if you already have a groove going on and want to add a new layer, using this method you can easily adjust the new element to fit whatever. Try it! It's endless fun...
Thats insane! But I am confused, I came here because I saw the MIDI tools pack released inside the 12.1 beta, will theese be part of the official 12.1 release then? Or do we still have to buy them from you then? Sorry If I may dont see the obvious here ^^
hi there! this is the previous pack that i released back when live 12 came out. with live 12.1 there will be a free pack through ableton that includes 5 devices.
@p__meyer Is this a bug with Phase Pattern? - Disable Generate button so it's toggled OFF. - Click Reset button to reset parameters state. - Try to raise Notes above 8, either by dragging or typing. - OBSERVE: Note limit is capped. - EXPECTED: Note limit should be freely adjustable to the max. limit of 256. - Enable Generate button. - Tro to raise Notes above 8. - OBSERVE: Now works up to 256.
@torley Thanks for the super clear report! So this is happening because the device does some fancy stuff to limit the range of the Notes number box when quantization is enabled. When you're quantized, you can't have more notes than there are intervals in the grid. The problem is, Ableton doesn't have a solution for how to check the grid resolution other than to trigger the entire generation process. When the Generate button is off, the generation process isn't triggered, so we don't check the grid and quantization settings, and so the number box's value sometimes gets clamped when it shouldn't (and also sometimes doesn't get clamped when it should). I'm hoping that Ableton makes an update in the future that allows Generators and Transformers to query the MIDI clip notes and dictionary for the sole purpose of updating the appearance of the UI. In the meantime, I have an idea for a quick fix that I'll mark down for when I fix the rest of the bugs that people will inevitably find in this rather large pack of devices! Thanks again for the report.
@@p__meyer I appreciate such a nuanced explanation that some of this is really on Ableton to solve! You reminded me, I'd also like Ableton to add PRESETS to the Generators & Transformers, so it's easy to switch between different parameter sets - I formally requested that.
