Thank you for your service. That is such a thankless job that no one realizes is so specialized and necessary. I hope you are well compensated and that these kinds of unique jobs are few and far between. God bless you.
My wife, Penny and I worked together as EMT/Paramedic partners on the ambulance for many years (decades). We had to do body removals too many times to count. But it had to be done. It is never "clean and plesant". Horrific accidents, murders, suicides, drownings, etc. Sometimes, the smell is so bad. We had to use SCBAs from the fire department. I knew Penny for 43 great years. Unfortunately, she passed away suddenly in 2020. She had 53 years of service. I have 48 years and am still working in EMS (teaching). I can tell you they don't women like Penny anymore. I love and miss you, my wonderful wife. But life goes on.
Car accidents are physiologically the worst for me. I’ve had nightmares and PTSD type stuff from my removals. I’ll get some of my stories out there I promise, BOLO. I appreciate your service sir, not everyone can do it. 🫡
My older brother was a tow truck driver who gets a call to retrieve a car found in the water. There was a man in the car that’s been missing since January of that year and this is the end of June now. Anyways, he tows the car out of the water, the coroner goes to tag the toe of the dead man, so he pulls the boot off and the whole leg comes off the guy. The smell was so bad, my brother, the coroner and the police man ended up vomiting on the spot.
Yup. Had a mortician friend who had to retrieve this poor guy in his hunting cabin who sat down and died in front of on of those propane blow heaters. Sat there for a week and became a fricassee. Like a wiener at a convenience store. So bad that the police wouldn’t even assist her
Unfortunately our bros in blue usually don’t help at all. But yeah I have several burn victims under my belt, the smell is just as egregious as decomp.
Back in the early 80’s I was offered a job doing that work. I was making $4/HR at the time and I was offered the job at $18/HR and I said “ Hell No!!!”. 😂😂😂
Damn dude, $18 in 1982 is like $54 today. Couldn’t hang at all? lol joking I know it’s not for everyone. When I seen the job listed it took me like .2 secs to apply..
Fire service here. Got a call to an apartment complex once during the summer . Older heavy set man had not been seen in a few weeks and the maintenance guy was getting complaints from his neighbors either side of his unit. He had died in his recliner and his internals had pooled in front of him on the floor. Maintenance man opened his door when he didn’t answer and threw up on the spot. We show up and can smell it in the parking lot. Air packs were used to go in and help the coroner. It was terrible. Took weeks airing out my turn out gear to dull the odor. I understand they had to strip the apartment down to the studs to clean it up.
Your video shut off too early! It was way interesting. Anyway, I used to have to bag the bodies in the ER where I worked but it wasn’t even close to what you’re describing. I drove a garbage truck for a while and I bet even that wasn’t as bad. Kudos to you, brother. You don’t have that gig anymore?
Unfortunately no I don’t work in the industry anymore. I had a few in the trauma unit that didn’t make it after being hit by cars, nasty ones. You ever had to bag those?
@@Z.ack.1 Yes. And as an EMT I had to pick up a few limbs and such at accident scenes. Seems like a lifetime ago now. I also worked in the OR for a bit as a surgical technician and was usually tasked with suctioning bowel cases (I was a student for most of it). I was the poop sucker. Haaaa. As a very young man, I worked at a campground and once a week we went around with the “Honey Wagon” to suction out the sewage tanks. Now there was a smell that you don’t forget. I also drove a garbage truck in Delaware for 4 months one summer. This was before they had those mechanical arms that grabbed the cans for you. Covered in maggots and garbage juice all day! Yeah, I got stories. Haaa
#1, how did you get into this field, #2, why did you get into this? I mean, sounds interesting but if the pay isn’t even that great, is it worth the psychological trauma of things you’ve seen?
Man I literally said “bet” and applied. I swear I’d never do it but you the movie men in black where dude puts his sandwich on a corpse and still eats it, I could lol Death and bodies don’t bother me like normal people. Wait til I tell yall about my secret power I feel cremation gives you!!
Tbh I found it on indee.d I’m going to do a video soon on how I became one soon. However go to your local funeral homes and introduce yourself. There’s a lot of old school people in the industry, so you may find paper applications. Good luck!!
@@Z.ack.1 I can't imagine they get a lot of "eager beavers" coming in begging for a job! I worked in a hospital for a few years and for a lot of the time, I was the morgue orderly. Didn't see anything like what you describe, though when I was a beat cop I came close.

Been there, brother. It's a thankless job, but it's gotta get done. Be safe!

Even the dead need tended to.
With the smell that probably never leaves your memory, I’m sure the visuals go right along with it.
