Piazza Navona follows the outline of the stadium of Domitian almost exactly. It is likely that during the early dark ages the stadium was bricked in and the shell was used as fortress apartments. These were continually renovated over the centuries such that only the outline of the stadium remained. The Theater of Pompey in Rome also has a similar story. I look forward to this and the theater of Marcellus. Brilliant! Thanks for posting!
The only thing to consider is that the Campus Agonis, or Stadium of Domitian, was significantly lower than the modern piazza. If you go toward the west end of the outside of Piazza Navona, you can still see the original ground level, exposed through excavations.
Sensational 3D-Compositing! Even i make something similar with the Mayan Culture, i have to admit this works' quality is even better than mine. Spectacular!

The plan of the ancient city of Rome is taken from the "Forma Urbis Romae", published by Rodolfo Lanciani in 1893-1901.
